HOUSING IN DREISPITZ 2016 Bachelor 2, Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio Second semester, final project Professors : Marc Collomb Housing project the industrial area of Dreispitz, Basel, Switzerland

4

5

104 apartments and an urban garden share equally the workable area of 90 by 30 m.

The industrial area known as Dreispitz in the Swiss-German city of Basel has seen its function shifting toward a mixed urban area during recent years. Our project intends to integrate itself in this spirit of change and adaptation by combining an industrial warehouse on the ground floor and a housing programme on the upper floors. The plot is on the crossing of two major streets defining one corner of the “Dreispitz. This project oriented itself toward a dense social housing in front of an urban park linked to the ground by a ramp. The apartments offer additional height in the living areas by combining two duplexes and a gangway on three floors, increasing light penetration and comfort.

FIRE IN THE HOUSE 2015 - 2016 Bachelor 2, Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio First semester, final project Professors : Marc Collomb & Enrico Molteni Artist’s house, Chillida’s foundation, San Sebastian, Spain

14

15

Conceived as single house on a slope, it is situated inside the park surrounding the museum of the basque artist Chillida. The house is designed for an artist who is using fire and smithing technique to work metal. The context of the foundation as a public space lead to treat the house with an introverted typology. Closing itself completely to its surroundings, with the exception of a window on the south-east facade, which creates a special relationship with a small, isolated grove. The grove also filters the view and assures privacy. The roof slopes diagonally following the slope, the lower corner facing south, perforated in such a way as to allow it to be the main source of natural light for the house. The workshop and by extention the fireplace, is the heart of the house, around which all the other functions gravitate. Separeted from the rest of the house by a lower ground level and by glass walls.

INTEGRATION AND CULTURE 2014 - 2015 Bachelor 2, Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio Second semester, final Project Professors : Mario Botta, Paolo Canevascini Center for Asylum seekers in Chiasso, Switzerland

22

23

Place of reception, work and dormitories for asylum seekers, the project integrates itself into the context like a hand dug into the field. It spreads out on a podium, with centralised public space enclosed by four buildings, but keeping an intimate distance to the ground; a certain permeability. The convergence of these four buildings form a square, low density single-storey elements which integrate themselves into the agricultural surrounding and radiate in four directions. This disposition opens the horizon and provides ways of passage that vary each time. Space is minimal and the buildings with their various functions are connected by external paths where the cultivated fields remain close and ensure a permanent presence.

HOUSE ON THE CANAL 2014 - 2015 Bachelor 1, Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio First semester, final Project Professors : Mario Botta, Paolo Canevascini Guest house in Chiasso, Switzerland

28

29

Over a small river in the border city of Chiasso rises a serie of temporary guest houses. The Universal Exposition hosted by Milan in 2015 attracted people from all over the world. This house invents a scenario where a couple from Laos is invited to give a lecture on traditional agriculture. 2/3 of the south-east Asian population lives in the countryside and the mighty Mekong is an essential factor for local population. The guest house is inspired by this culture of temporary housing on the water. A light wooden frame creates a simple structure for the few months of the exposition. The house allows only indirect light by playing with the roof inclination to protect the inside from the warm summer of southern Switzerland. The variation priorities the living area with major height and a terrasse linking the house to the other side, creating a bridge and allowing a secondary entrance.

SKYSPACE 2015 Bachelor 2, Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio Digital representation

34

35

The skyspace project is inspired by the work of the American artist James Turell, who created closed space with an opening in the roof in order to frame a part of the sky. The orientation and the form of the opening are chosen with the aim to project a screen of light on a vertical wall. The contemplativ scenery is meant to depict a hot and dusty ambient where the reflection of the light on the wall and the dust give life to an abstract light painting.

GAS HOLDER 2015 Bachelor 2, Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio Digital representation

38

39

Working from the photographs of Bernd and Hilla Becher, we extracted information from the photo in order to reproduce the industrial object in drawings. A further step meant producing a realistic image using the technique of collage, and later creating a scenery through 3d modelling and photoshop.
