ONCE UPON A TIME “Once upon a time, there was no use saying ‘A is for apple’ because there were no such thing as letters. If you wanted an apple, you would go into the shop and say ‘apple’, or point to it. It worked very well until...” Folk singer-songwriter Dawn Fung sings about a time when children first learnt to read.

something strange and wondrous happens

like a peddler who comes into your town promising you ‘the most wondrous thing in the world that will change your life’!

Sunday, November 3, 2013

but nobody believes it (of course) “What’s the use?” “We don’t need anything new here.” “Bring it elsewhere!” “I have other things to do.” “I bet it’s not that great.”

Sunday, November 3, 2013

they were discouraging The peddler noticed the villagers were grumpy, listless and very proud.

They stuck to their same old houses and same old shops.

There was never anything new. Sunday, November 3, 2013

Can you figure out what ‘the most wondrous thing in the world’ is? As auntie Dawn sings song 2 : The Strangers, draw/create whatever comes to mind on p3!

something else happened

The boy literally grew as he read. He was taller by inches. His voice deepened. He looked well fed.

Sunday, November 3, 2013

Now everyone wanted to read a book! They learnt the ABC song. They put sounds together. They identified words. And they read for the first time in their lives. They grew. Fingers lengthened... cheeks expanded with brightness... Their senses were more sensitive to sight, sound, taste, touch, smell.

The change was marvelous. Sunday, November 3, 2013

How they danced for joy! The more they read, the more they knew. The more they knew, the more they grew.

Sunday, November 3, 2013

How about you?

Would you like to know about wondrous things too?
