The proportion of the population over 65 years old

Taiwan is a typical aging society. According to a survey in 2020 by the National Development Council, nearly 16.7% of the population is older than 65 years old. As society ages, the accompanying problems are imminent. For example, the elderly gradually become lonely and live alone for the rest of their lives. Living alone not only makes life inconvenient for the elderly but may also cause many problems. Research reports show that the elderly living alone are more prone to accidents without immediate care; meanwhile, their social skills will also decline due to a lack of interaction with others.

What if...

With the development of AI artificial intelligence and robots, powerful robots have gradually involved in people's lives. Robots may not only assist the needs of life but also meet the needs of the psychological level!

User Interview

We understood our target users through interviews. A total of four seniors were interviewed. We recorded their living habits, interests, and difficulties in detail. In addition to their verbal descriptions, we also observed their expressions and intonations when they were speaking, trying to obtain more details about the emotions and perceptions of them.

5

After completing the persona, we found that the elderly are generally afraid of burdening their children, so they hope to keep themselves healthy and positive. They tend to find activities that can become the focus of life in retirement, such as learning, planting, sports, etc.

Group Discussion

We organized the interview results into several diagrams, including affinity maps, empathy maps, How-Now-Wow matrix, persona, and user journey map. These help us to be user-centered.

Tainan City's aquaculture fishery is rich in production, especially milkfish, which is the most historical and local representative, and the domestic production is also the highest. Therefore, many milkfish dishes have been derived, which have become Tainan's special street food. Floating-fish thick soup is made from the back and maw of milkfish, which is a very popular delicacy for tourists.

Design Background

In recent years, “candied fruit”, a product of Taiwanese traditional culture, is gradually declining. Not only is the hygienic quality of the store's production process worrying, but people who want to make it themselves are always discouraged by the complicated steps.

Developing Process

We tried to make different kinds of candied fruit, and redefined the production steps of all candied fruit into "cutting, dehydrating, pickling, and drying". We found that the existing candied fruit production process is complicated, multiple utensils must be used, and the field needs to be changed constantly. The most difficult thing is that the user has to repeatedly arrange the fruit on the container, which is not only boring for the user but also the fruit itself is easily damaged.

Iteration of Silicone Tray

Cut out silicones, confirm their characteristics, and then think about the way the silicone tray may be folded. Volume are taken into consideration, and after weighted scoring of multiple parameters.

Iteration of Air Outlet

Considering that the air outlet needs to bear the weight of the silicone plate and the fruit, the shape of the air column has been modified many times.

Iteration of Glass Cover

Considering the limitations of the glass manufacturing process, the shape with a single direction of curvature and rotation was finally selected.

In order to better understand the performance of the product, we disassembled the fruit dryer, instant cooker, and other products on the market. Through the research and analysis of its internal mechanism, we conceive the operating principle of the candied fruit machine. We collaborate with professionals, communicate with related product development companies, and try various mechanical assemblies in many ways.

Model Making

Silicone Mold making Glass Cover making

We studied the limitations of silicone mold making to make molds by ourselves. Considering the difficulty of obtaining food-grade silicone, we commissioned a silicone factory to make the final model.

Due to the limitation of the shape and the size of the model, the glass cover needs to be molded first before it can be blown manually. A wooden mold was used to reduce the failure rate of blowing.
