UKCA Donates to Cat Neutering The UKCA (United Kingdom Citizens Association) Club Larnaca officially presented ‘Feral Fundraiser: Animal Helpers’ with a donation of €290 on August 16 to help neuter stray cats in the area. Chairman of the UKCA Club Larnaca, Gerry Harrison, presented Heather LaBonte Efthymiou with the donation at the club’s premises in Pyla. Heather later posted on the Feral Fundraiser Facebook page that the volunteers were ‘floored’ to receive the donation. The money was raised over the past year through a donation collection tin on the club's bar. Mr Harrison said the club was happy to help the efforts in fighting the Cyprus-wide stray cat problem through neutering.
UKCA Chairman Gerry Harrison presents Feral Fundraiser’s Heather LaBonte Efthymiou with money raised by the club.
The money raised will go towards Feral Fundraiser’s vet bills so that it can continue its efforts. The UKCA is a non-profit organisation established for the benefit of British citizens living in the town. It was set up in the early 1980’s and has now expanded to include members from the European Union, with new members always welcome.
RAOB Supporting Children In Need Of Help The RAOB (BUFFS) are supporting children in need of help. They are carrying out a special fund raising drive to help cases like Kessie Katsiflis. She is a 14-year-old girl born with a disorder in her right leg. Her adopted mother Lynn has been trying to save her leg since she was 2 years old. Sadly, last year the fight came to an end. Due to possible complications, it was decided that the foot had to be amputated. The Buffs stepped in and along with other friends raised the money needed. Kessie is growing quickly. The stump of her leg has shrunk and the bone has started to grow again. The prosthetic leg no longer fits. She now may need another operation and a new prosthetic leg. Dr Dvaric and the Shriners Hospital are giving their services free of charge but there are many other expenses involved. One of the events held to raise this money was a sponsored hair dye by 3 of the Buffs. Norman Spicer had his hair dyed Purple. John Rendell had Rainbow colours while Nof Pashialis dyed his beard red and pink.
Even Animals Can’t Get Enough Of The Daxi Holiday Guide To Cyprus! Hi Daxi! Thought you might like to see this photo of our cat Alice chilling out after reading the latest edition of the Daxi Holiday Guide. Glenn & Dawn Palmer
They raised €1400 between them. The event was held on 1st Sept at the Agrino pub and Azzuro Hair salon on Dhekelia Road where they also held a horse racing night and raffle raising another €700. The BUFFS are constantly raising money to support children in need. If you would like to help by donations, offering raffle prizes or holding fund raising events please contact John Rendell on 99027214

Brit Awarded Ambassador of Ayia Napa The ‘Tourism Ambassador of Ayia Napa’ is now proclaimed as tourists who are honored by the Municipality for their repeated visits to Ayia Napa for holiday purposes.
TOP TIPS
Ice Cool Wine by the Glass
Strip white grapes from the vine and freeze them solid. To prevent a glass of wine from warming, just add the frozen grapes to the glass. They won’t dilute it like ice, nor will they add flavour.
That's why, alongside the honour plaque, which is given to foreign travellers who come to Ayia Napa more than 20 times, they will simultaneously be awarded a special mark, which will declare them an ‘Ambassador of Ayia Napa Tourism’.
Barbeque Tip
The rationale behind the decision of Mayor Mr. Yiannis Karousos and the members of the City Council is that repeated tourists promote and advertise in the best and most convincing way the city abroad.

Spray pure apple juice onto your barbeque foods on the griddle. It seals in juices and doesn’t taste of apple. Dave Ketteridge
Luke Noddle has been visiting Ayia Napa for the past 16 years. The family have been returning to Cyprus year after year since the 70’s.

The Mayor of Ayia Napa Yiannis Karousos presented the award to Luke on the 23/08/17. This is an extremely proud moment for Luke and the whole family. Here is to many more happy years returning to Cyprus.

The Talk of the Toes Miss Friday the podiatrist was kind and so very helpful, but when she asked me if I knew my toes were talking to each other I feared for her, let alone my own sanity. Anyway, in the gaps between passing traffic I strained my ears to try and hear something. Amazingly she was correct. I heard them muttering and mumbling to one another. After a few more visits we got to know each other better, Miss Friday, my toes and me. We felt more relaxed and able to speak out in each others’ company. The toes told us they wanted to form a boy band together; big toe to sing bass, the middle three digits as baritone, tenor and alto, with ‘Little Pinkie’ to handle the falsetto. After ‘The Toes’ won the Big TV Talent Show things took off at a fast pace. Their debut album went gold, purely on advance orders, and soon they were jetting off on a world tour. On the way, they got to meet world leaders, showbiz personalities and even some minor royalty. They sold out the O2 Arena in London, Carnegie Hall in New York and Sydney Opera House. Miss Friday the podiatrist left a locum in her practice and came along on the tour as their personal trainer which made them very happy. She would keep them in shape for the busy months ahead. After a year or two though ticket sales started to fall and shows were being cancelled, and their latest album failed to sell enough copies. It was as I had always feared a novelty act usually only has a short shelf life. We had a meeting and decided to quit while we were ahead. After all we had earned enough money to last a lifetime if we lived prudently. So, I decided it was about time I married my long-term partner, and we settled down to a life of domestic bliss in ‘Twinkle Toes Cottage’ with roses growing around our door. Miss Friday returned to her practice having become by now, something of a celebrity in her own profession. Recently we have been blessed with some new tiny toes that have arrived to join our family. Late last night I snuck into the nursery and to my surprise I heard the gurgling of baby toes trying to communicate with each other. Not real words yet of course, but more of a ‘Booga-Boo–Do, Coo Ca Coo Choo’. by Clive Gardner
Living the Dream
Hi to my dreamers who are living it. Well since we last spoke I thought I had lost at least two stone as the heat has had me dripping, probably the same as everyone. Well like most Brits I love moaning about the weather hot, cold it's one of my pastimes. A bit of advice, if you have a bad back, hips or knees please do not do breast stroke legs you can do the breast stroke arms but do crawl (kicking up and down) legs. I'm not going to explain why just trust me! My friends have come from Scotland for their holiday so with my friend Valeria and hubby we went on The Captain Marco cruise ship. Well we had a ball! The bar is open all the time and they serve lunch which is chicken, jacket potatoes and loads of salad plus bread and butter, we were so full. We stopped twice for a swim and the sea was beautiful. The nice bit, they play music from our era so I was boogieing all the time, until the knees went. It was a cracking day. Being that I'm on the dreaded Facebook, I made a decision. Every day I look at Facebook and get so depressed as its nothing but bad news. I get so irate I comment on everything. My daughter told me I better stop answering the blogs as my blood pressure would and does soar, so now I just answer nice things, well some horrid things but not a lot. I don't know about you but I'm not eating as much in this heat. I have got salad coming out of my ears I even had cornflakes the other night (with my vodka of course). Now for the big thing, cleaning. I've decided that the dust will be there in Winter so it stays. I'm really pleased that Cyprus is yet again having a good summer. I have been speaking to many people from all over the world asking if they are having a good time and the response is terrific, the only complaint is the pool in the hotel is too warm! Can't please everyone.
Has anyone noticed in the last few years the tomatoes have been grotty? I mean the ordinary ones not the little ones. When I first came to Cyprus I couldn't get over the wonderful tomatoes, now they are as big as melons with cores like bullets. Oh well I will have to grow my own (some joke). But the fruit has been spectacular. Oh! Forgot to tell you about my bites, well I'm still taking garlic tablets and vitamin B1 and I have basil everywhere and I spray everything in sight. It takes 2 hours to get to bed, I take antihistamine I also rub Avon’s soft and gentle in everywhere. The only thing is I don't know what's working as I have had only a few bites. I’m now wearing long leggings, polo neck jumper’s, gloves and socks and boots (only joking). Well my spring chickens, keep healthy, smile every day and live the dream. Laraine Passes xxx
The Law of Attraction
The great secret of life is the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction can also be called the Law of Creation. With that in mind, the only reason why people do not have what they want is that they are thinking more about what they don't want than what they do want. The key is to pay close attention to the thoughts that you allow to take up space in your mind and listen to the words you speak about yourself and about life. The Law of Attraction is absolute and makes no mistakes. Therefore, it will draw to you more of your current thoughts and self-talk. In other words, life is not happening to you, you are creating it. Book Review:
A Minor Indiscretion Carole Matthews When a young fresh street artist falls at Ali Kingston's feet it turns her life upside down. But when she tries to convince her husband that it was just a minor indiscretion, things start to get out of hand. The Characters are believable, kids are hilarious, and the emotional roller coaster the characters go through you ride alongside! I absolutely loved it... Tears were in my eyes at the end. Album Review: Ed Sheeran ‘X’ ‘X’ finds a hungry artist doing everything possible to elevate to another level, simply by abiding by his instincts. Ed Sheeran sinks even deeper into feelings of love, jealousy and inebriation while trying to navigate pop superstardom - a problem this album is sure to only amplify. Another great album produced, you won’t be disappointed.

Film Review: Moana What a truly uplifting film. Straight from the start of the film the visual effects are just breath-taking. Legend has it that demigod Maui stole a sacred stone, the heart of the goddess Te Fiti. The lava demon confronted him and both the heart and Maui were lost forever. Now, the world is slowly dying and someone must find the heart and force Maui to put it back. Moana is a likable character smart, funny, determined and her chemistry with Maui is just so natural, the film just gets better and the songs will have you singing along too. It’s a feel-good movie, one for all the family.

Getting Into The Spirit! As we all know October is the month that we start to get out the pumpkins and sweet treats all ready for Halloween. Every year the kids and I make Halloween decorations of one sort or another and this year is no different. We are creeping it up slightly this time round though so thought we would start by making a poison bottle and a secret stash box for all things witchy. What you will need: A cardboard box (we used an old shoe box) A glass bottle A glue gun Black spray paint A sponge Black, Gold, and White paints (red and gold or green and gold would also work really well but we are working to a theme)
How to: Step 1 - Start by heating up your glue gun and use it to write your desired words on your box and bottle. We chose ‘Danger’ on our box with a skull and crossbones motif and then the word ‘Poison’ for our bottle. We added drips of glue to the top of the bottle for extra effect Step 2 - Once your glue is dry take your items outside and spray paint them black all over. Depending on the age and finger strength of your child, they may be able to help with this. Leave to dry Step 3 - Once your paint is dry, use your sponge to lightly sponge the other colours of paint over your items finishing off with the black. This will help to give it a more textured and an aged look. We added an extra sponging of gold over our lettering so that it stood out a bit more from the background. Again, leave to dry and then you are done. Depending on the type of paint that you have used for your sponging you may find that it will start to flake a little as it dries. You can either leave it as it is to add to the worn look or spray a coat of clear varnish over the top to seal the paint on. I’m really looking forward to creating lots more items to decorate our home with this year and we also have a big birthday coming up in October which will also mean more decorations so please keep an eye on our Facebook page for more spooky ideas! Posture Your posture starts to develop in the uterus. As a baby, you learn to sit, crawl, rollover and walk. All these skills are essential for developing the four curves of your spine. Over the next few decades your body changes shape and grows stronger as you move, walk, sit, run and fall. If you have poor posture, then you are likely to have increased pain. Good posture will help to reduce the stress on muscles, circulation may improve. Poor circulation around the shoulders and neck can cause headaches, especially for people who use a computer for long hours. When standing try to keep your shoulders back and relaxed, pull your abdomen in, keep your feet about hip distance apart, balance your weight evenly on both feet, let your hands hang naturally, try to keep your head straight. To test your standing posture, stand with your head, shoulder blades and buttocks touching a wall, have your heels about 5-10cm away from the wall. Reach back and slide your hand behind the curve in your lower back, with your palm flat against the wall. Ideally, you'll feel about one hand's thickness of space between your back and the wall. If there's too much space, tighten your abdominal muscles to flatten the curve. If there's too little space, arch your back so that your hand fits comfortably behind you. Walk away from the wall while maintaining this posture. When seated, both feet should be flat on the floor while keeping your knees level with your hips. If necessary, prop up your feet with a footstool. If the chair doesn't support your lower back, use a rolled towel or small pillow. Stretch the top of your head toward the ceiling, and tuck your chin in slightly. Keep your upper back and neck comfortably straight. Keep your shoulders relaxed - not elevated, rounded or pulled backward. When was the last time you looked at your posture in a mirror? Stand in front of a mirror and start with your feet – do your ankles appear to roll inwards? If so this could indicate flat feet (pes planus). Are your feet parallel? Is there more weight on one leg? Are your feet at ‘10 to 2?’ Next look at your hips and waist line - are they level or are you dropping on one side? Are your shoulders level? Finally, look at the head - is it straight or tilted? If your work is deskbound set a timer every 30 minutes, then stand up and then sit down with good posture. If you drive a lot, ensure your seat is upright and take a break after about one hour for a few minutes. If you stand for work, ensure your feet are parallel and try to move your feet at regular intervals. If you have to carry heavy items, ensure the weight of the item is directly over your toes. Winter is advancing on us, ladies. Soon, the brisk autumn mornings will be a distant memory, and we’ll be reaching for ankle boots over open-toe slides. How’d that happen so fast?
New Season Trends
To help you prepare your winter style, we’ve rounded up five of the biggest new season trends, so you can start your shopping list early. You might’ve seen a few of these pop up throughout the last few months, but they’re only going to gain further traction from here, so jump on board before it’s too late.
80’s SPORT Oh yes, it's back. Think pops of neon, exaggerated shoulders and body-con shapes. We're loving the way it feels a bit more polished and sophisticated. How? It's all about '80s shapes, in luxe fabrics. HI-SHINE Patent leather was all over the runways, with pieces from
80’s Sport
shoes to pants to skirts and coats taking centre stage. The key is to ensure your hi-shine piece is the hero of your look. If you're scared to dip your toe into this head-turning trend, start with shoes and work your way up. PUNK
Hi-Shine
When we say 'punk', we mean the details, like heavy lace, studs, spikes, leather, and pierced details. Chances are you already own pieces like this in your closet, so just get your hands on a slogan tee (like at Dior), and you're ready for autumn 2017. ROMANTIC We can't stop obsessing over how pretty layers and layers of ruffles and tulle are. The trend gained popularity towards the
Punk
end of 2016, but the way to wear it this year? Layer over knee-high boots or add heavy, dark accessories. VELVET Velvet was so popular for the northern hemisphere winter that we're worried you won't want to wear anything but this
Romantic
fabric once the cooler weather hits. We've seen it pop up over accessories and apparel, so there are so many options to try.

THE LATEST SPORTS AND EVENTS NEWS
LOCAL SPORT - DRIFT RACING This may not be a sport with which you are familiar but if you like a bit of high speed excitement on the race track this could be for you – as a spectator (at least, for a start!). What is ‘drift racing’? Briefly, a motorsport whereby the driver intentionally oversteers, with loss of traction in the rear wheels or all tyres, whilst maintaining control and driving the car through the entirety of a corner. This is a relatively new sport to Cyprus and the track at Disaki Achna (on the Disaki – Avgorou road) was opened in 2011 and now has regular crowds of 2,000 to 2,500 spectators. The season starts in March and five events, plus one cup competition, are held before the winter break. The track is open on race days from around 11am for practice sessions with the main racing events held in the evening. Spectators are welcome throughout the day. As well as fast cars to watch, refreshments are available and there is musical entertainment as well. Entry price is just €10. Heavily involved in promoting the events, as well as being an accomplished driver himself, is Stelios Zacharia, whose food outlet in Xylotymbou you may be familiar with. For more information please see Facebook page ‘pdc Power Drift Club’ or Stelios’ own page ‘Stelios Zacharia Drift’ or telephone Heather on 99040012 or Stelios on 99640134. Tips to Choose a Flat TV Smart TV. LED. OLED. 4K. HDR. The world of TVs is looking better every day, but also more confusing. Today, there's a ridiculously wide array of high-definition (HD) and 4K Ultra HD sets in stores, from bargain big screens to high-end displays that can cost as much as a car.
How to choose one?
Quick Tips - If you’re in a hurry, here are the most important things to consider before you buy a television: - Don’t buy a TV with less than 4K resolution (i.e., avoid 1080p sets). Resolution describes the sharpness of the TV picture, usually in terms of horizontal lines of pixels. They’re very rare at this point and should be avoided, but a bargain HD set may support only 720p, which means the set displays 720 lines scanned progressively (or in a single pass). Other HDTVs support the 1080p HD format, also called full HD, which has 1,080 lines of resolution. 4K models have four times the number of pixels as current HDTV screens, Ultra HD video looks great. - Expect to pay about €500 for a solid 50- to 55-inch bargain 4K TV and at least €800 for a 65-inch model (online prices). - Don't buy a TV with less than a 120 Hz refresh rate. - For state-of-the-art models, look for an HDR-compatible set. HDR is a new feature of 4K Ultra HD sets and it stands for high dynamic range, a reference to its ability to deliver more colours, more contrast levels and increased brightness. - OLED TVs look much better than a typical LED LCD, but they are considerably more expensive. - Ignore contrast-ratio specs: manufacturers fudge the numbers. Trust your own eyes. - Look for at least four HDMI ports; 4K shoppers should ask about HDCP compatibility. - Curved TVs are a fashion statement. They don’t benefit image quality. They are intended to attract shoppers' attention. However, not only do curved screens have no technical advantage over the other sets, but they actually have some distinct disadvantages. For one, the slightly curved aspect distorts the image and reduces the available side-viewing angles, thus limiting the best view to a few people sitting in a narrow, centre sweet spot. - Most TV’s are ‘smart TV’s’ these days with easy access to Netflix and other online apps. Don’t be tricked into thinking this is a big deal. - Plan to buy a soundbar. TV speakers are worse nowadays because the screens are thinner. Funny and Bizarre Excuses Given to Police and Insurance Companies Following Car Accidents The public perception of policemen and women may be that they do an extremely serious job and that insurance agents have a dreary job. Yet it seems both these professions have their moments of mirth, and not least when dealing with the claims and excuses of those members of the public who have been involved in an unfortunate car accident. Here are some of the funniest excuses given by people who have suffered accidents: 1. Leaving home for work I drove out of my drive and straight into a bus. The bus was five minutes early. 2. I was driving my car out of the driveway in the usual manner, when it was struck by the other car in the same place it had been struck several times before. 3. I had been learning to drive with power steering. I turned the wheel to what I thought was enough and found myself in a different direction going the opposite way. 4. One wheel went into the ditch. My foot jumped from the accelerator pedal, leapt across the lane to the other side and jammed in the trunk of a tree. 5. I was on my way to the doctor with rear end trouble when my universal joint gave way causing me to have an accident. 6. The gentleman behind me struck me on the backside. He then went to rest in a bush with just his rear end showing. 7. I was knocked out as a result of the collision and was taken to hospital where I sustained serious injuries. 8. Coming home, I drove into the wrong house and struck a tree I haven't got. 9. The accident was caused by me waving to the man I hit last week. 10. The accident occurred when I was attempting to bring my car out of a skid by steering it into the other vehicle. 11. I had been driving for forty years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had an accident. 12. I don't know who was to blame for the accident, I wasn't looking. 13. There was no damage to the car as the gate post will testify. 14. I pulled into a lay-by with smoke coming from under the bonnet. I realised the car was on fire so took my dog and smothered it with a blanket. 15. I pulled away from the side of the road, glanced at my mother-in-law, and headed over the embankment. 16. I had one eye on a parked car, another on approaching lorries, and another on the woman behind. 17. I saw her look at me twice. She appeared to be making slow progress when we met on impact. 18. I started to slow down but the traffic was more stationary than I thought. 19. A truck backed through my windshield onto my wife's face. 20. I was driving along the motorway when the police pulled me over onto the hard shoulder. Unfortunately I was in the middle lane and there was another car in the way. 38
