AUTOCLAVED BloCk! LOW SHRINKAGE
NEW CHEMICAL STRUCTURE
Units are pre-shrunk and stabilized by high pressure steam curing. Tests conducted over many years by competent testing authorities in Canada and the United States have proved that autoclave curing produces blocks with 50% less shrinkage than units cured by any other known process.
With autoclave curing, entirely new chemical reactions take place between cements and aggregates, resulting in more inert chemical compounds being formed. These compounds are relatively unaected by moisture, further reducing volumetric changes and keeping subsequent shrinkage to a minimum.
QUICK STRENGTH
NO EFFLORESCENCE
The autoclave curing process completes the curing of concrete within the 8-hour cycle, producing units which will have an initial strength as high as they will ever be. Conventionally cured units may take as long as 12 months to gain their final strength and size. This initial permanent strength is a guarantee to the specifications that quality products will be delivered no matter how short delivery notice is.
The lime and salts normally present in Portland cement and aggregates (responsible for leaching and eorescence of units) under the autoclave process, unite with the silicates, added to the concrete mix, to form a new chemical crystalline structure.
LOW MOISTURE CONTENT Inherent in the process of autoclave curing, units are dried to well below 30% residual moisture content. This reduces later volume change due to loss of moisture to a negligible minimum. The dryness of the block produces improved suction characteristics with mortar and plaster, with resulting improved and faster erection of block walls and plastered walls.
LESS VOLUME CHANGE Because on the job site, units are frequently subjected to cycles of wetting and drying during the course of construction, it is important that autoclave cured units have less than 50% volume change due to cycles of wetting and drying, than united cured by other methods.
STRONGER AND TOUGHER
Units have a high early modulus of rupture and compressive strength, makeing them stronger and LIGHTER IN COLOUR tougher, more resistant to chipping and breaking in all The high pressure and temperature in an autoclave phases of handling from the manufacturing plant to bleaches the blocks to a very light colour. The exacting their final position in a wall. control over all parts of the autoclave process is responsible for the high uniformity of colour from cycle to cycle.

After curing process is completed, the steam pressure is released, creating a vacuum which reduces the moisture content of the block to an air dry condition.
Autoclaving is a process of curing in a pressure vessel in saturated steam for a period of time sufficient to produce a stabilized finished product. In this atmosphere, new chemical compounds are formed having immediate and permanent strengths. The new compounds, being crystalline in structure rather than gel-like, are hard, stabilized and preshrunk. Through the formation of crystalline binders, the “built-in” shrinkage coefficient of the Autoclaves products is extremely low and in most units shrinkage is negligible. Furthermore, because of curing temperatures up to 3500 F at elevated pressures, blocks are in air dry condition upon emerging from the pressure vessel. Through Autoclaving, complete curing is accomplished in a few hours, therefore time as a yardstick of quality is obsolete. In addition, the autoclave process is easily duplicated from one cycle to the other taking the “guesswork” out of curing with the assurance that every run is of equally high quality. The true significance of Autoclaving is in the consistence high performance record of Autoclaved products. All other factors being equal, Autoclaved masonry products have a record of

performance equal to, or better than, any other regardless of material or process. Autoclaved block or brick may be used in any masonry structure, whether it be load bearing, partition, pier or backup with the assurance that everything has been done that can be done to the unit to produce dependable, attractive masonry walls. The overall costs of masonry walls made up of Autoclaved units is generally lower. Because of the low shrinkage potential, recognized by many authorizing agencies, less wall reinforcement and fewer control joints are necessary. A savings is labor results because of lower breaking and fewer control joints and less wall reinforcements. The characteristics emphasized here are fully supported through performance and numerous test data by independent agencies such as the Portland Cement Association, the University of Toledo and others. leading National Agencies such as the Corps of Engineers and the American Concrete Institute recognize Autoclave units as superior and incorporate these characteristics into specifications and specification guides.
