Mary Loveless, Ph.D., is the Chattanooga boarding school's new director of the IdeaLab, a place for Baylor students to gather, share resources and knowledge, collaborate on projects and more. IdeaLab is also a meeting place for the robotics club and a new engineering design class that's set to start this fall. The school has a new $4.5 million riverfront facility for the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute (TNACI) on Baylor School’s campus. The 14,000-square-foot facility serves as the only freshwater science center in the Southeast. A biological field station, the institute houses propagation systems for reintroduction programs complete with three fully-equipped labs for researchers and a spacious teaching lab for rising high school and college students. Columbia Academy (pg. 16) Bulldog Hall of Fame member Pernell Knox joins Columbia Academy (CA) as athletic director. Eric Hixson, Ed.D., also joins the school as the new director of academics. CA launched the ACT Aspire standardized testing for grades 3 - 10 in 2016, and it continues this year. President James A. Thomas, Ed.D., aims to align the school's standardized testing with the ACT. The testing is tied to ACT’s measures of College and Career Readiness and will provide reports that show a child’s progress toward important benchmarks. Montgomery Bell Academy (pg. 23) Montgomery Bell Academy celebrates 150 years and will have ongoing events throughout the year in celebration as well as a commemorative book.
