I inherited my greenhouse from the previous home owners. It has a poignant little history all of its own but, tucked away in a corner of my garden, it fell into a state of neglect and disrepair for several years.
Summer Greenhouse
My delighful family decided I needed it back in my life again and this summer moved it right outside my back door and refurbished it. It has been my delight to plant it out and take something from its bounty every day. It is a warm and meditative space. It is where my cats lie and snooze by my side and where tiny lives are played out. This little empire has inspired me to look close, to really see and reflect on the beauty and complexity of nature.

Dayle Matthews is the owner of design studio Isabella Selina. Isabella Selina is the name of Dayle’s Grandmother who lived with the family in a little cottage on the family property. Grandma “Lena” left a legacy of vintage furniture, canny living and beautiful old world style. Dayle works from her home in the Dunedin hills in the South Island of New Zealand. Her artwork is inspired by three enduring themes: the creativity of nature, the value of every human voice finding its expression, and a steady and growing contemplation of the question of what makes a life worth living. After a working lifetime of sketching little designs in the margins during corporate meetings, Dayle has taken her designs out of the margins and set them free out in the world to see what they will make of themselves.
