I
I seek refuge with Allah away from the accused Shaitan, In the Name of Allah The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful. The most beautiful ways of praising and giving thanks belong to Allah; the Ever-Living one, He has no beginning and He is without an end. May His blessing be upon the noble Muhammad; a blessing and guide to the entire world, May Allah's bless also be upon the household of Muhammad, his disciples and the Muslims around the world.
Assalam alaikum brothers and sisters! I welcome you to this maiden edition of our magazine; Guided Nation, which InSha Allah is aimed at bringing good tidings about our Deen and Muslims at Large. This edition shall look into the controversial issue of terrorism in the world today and the perspectives of Islam as far as terrorism is concerned. To understand Islam's stance on terrorism, one must refer to its original sources; the Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which are explicit in their prohibition of any form of injustice including that of wanton violence which seeks to instill fear, injury or death to people. Our contributors have also taken their times to look deeply into some topics, and treated same in a manner that will be beneďŹ cial to readers. However, we have to let you know that this edition is not voluminous enough compare to what we have in mind to feature in the next editions, hence, InSha Allah we will improve. We will also like to call your attention to the quality of the pictures and some other graphics in this publication, which are a bit low due to the fact that most of the pictures were taken from the internet, we will also
improve on this later in the future. Do not hesitate to contact us should you like to contribute, ask questions or make suggestions via: +234-805-3342225, +234-806-656-3332 or info@guidedummah.com Jazakunmullahu khairan Lots of love,

Salat
"Verily, I am Allah: There is no god but I: So serve thou Me (only), and establish regular prayer for celebra ng My praise”. Q20:14
S
Salat is an Arabic word, which means to perform, to bow, to worship, to pray etc. As the meaning implies, it now depends on the context of the use of the word to determine which of the salats we are talking about. Salat here is talking about the five mes daily prayers. In one word, Salat is the type of prayer that is started with recita on of Al-Fa ah and ends with a ashaud and teslim.
As Muslims, a er one accepts the oneness of Allah wholeheartedly and bears witness that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger without an iota of doubt, prayer becomes obligatory for such person. Thus, Salat is the second pillar upon which Islam is built. In the holy Qura'n, the word Salat is men oned around 700 mes in different verses, this therefore lay more emphasis on the importance of performing daily prayer for Muslims. However, the importance of Salat cannot be described in words, yet of all the importance of Salat, one must know that the bond between ALLAH and His slaves is well established during Salat. Consequently, observing Salat in a well manner is compulsory for every mature Muslims. This means our body and soul should be ready before we embark on the journey to serve and connect with our Creator. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said that Salat is the key to Paradise, therefore, as Muslims Salat is compulsory for everybody who aspires to enter Allah's Paradise. To meet with the requirement of seeing our Lord in a peaceful manner with gli ering light on our forehead; on a day when every soul shall be helpless to himself or anyone it is the Salat that we have observed during our life mes that will intercede for our before the Supreme Being.
Below are the essen als of Salat and what we stand to gain observing it according to the mes and manners by which we are enjoined to do it.
It dis nguishes the Muslims from nonbelievers The first ques on to be asked by the angels in the grave is about Salat It is the way in which man get closer to his Creator It provides harmony, love, and peace among Muslim Community Salat clean one's body and soul from filth Prayer creates tolerance, and leads to the right path It gives distance to man from sinful ac ons and evil deeds
To perform Salat we should be in the state of total cleanliness, cleanliness here entails purity of our body and mind. Our dress is required to clean too. It is important here to note that one should avoid dressing in rag or dirty clothes to Masjid yet one should avoid over dressing. Allah said in the holy Quran; “O sons of Adam! Take your adornment at every mosque, and eat and drink, and do not be extravagant; surely He does not love the extravagant (7:31). If the dress is perfect, then ablu on (Wuduh) follows, Prophet of Allah said (SAW), that there is no Salat for who does not perform wuduh. Close a en on should be paid to the way and manner we perform Wuduh. For if wuduh is not well performed no ma er how good inten oned the person may be, the Salat is void. Prayer should be performed with the manner taught by the holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the best place to perform Salat is a Masjid. This is where we will stop for this edi on. We shall con nue more on Salat in next edi on. Massalam!

We are
Muslims and Not Terrorists
U
Unfortunately more and more often, Islam has been associated with terrorism and violence due to the actions of a few extreme individuals who’ve taken it upon themselves to do the most heinous crimes in the name of Islam.
Tragic events such as the attack on the twin towers in New York, the bombings of Bali, Madrid and London are assumed to be justified by Islam in the minds of some people. This idea has been fueled further by many media channels which defame Islam by portraying these bombers as ‘Islamists’ or ‘Jihadists’, as though they were sanctioned by Islam, or had any legitimate spokemenship on behalf of Muslims. The actions of a few fanatical individuals who happen to have Muslim names or ascribe themselves to the Muslim faith should not be a yardstick by which Islam is judged. For the same reason, that one would not do justice to Christianity if it where perceived as sanctioning the genocide of the Native Americans, the atrocities of world war II or the bombings of the IRA. To understand Islam’s stance on terrorism, one must refer to its original sources, the Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, which are explicit in their prohibition of any form of injustice including that of wanton violence which seeks to instill fear, injury or death to civilians.
The Quran turns our attention to the high value of human life, whether it is Muslim or Non-Muslim and makes it absolutely forbidden to take an innocent life unjustly. The gravity of such a crime is equated, in the Quran, with the killing of all humanity. “On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land.” ( 5:32 ) Not only is human life sacred in Islam but the property, wealth, family and dignity of all individuals in society are to be respected and protected. Those who transgress these rights and sow fasad (corruption) as the Quran describes it, incur the wrath of Allah. "…and seek not corruption in the earth; lo! Allah loveth not corrupters " (28:77) Likewise in another verse “The blame is only against those who oppress men and wrong-doing and insolently transgress beyond Continue on page 13

Bushra-Alebiosu Sambo from a face that was as radiant as an angel’s. “I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed, “she said, as she got into the car. “They can’t wait to hear about our meeting.”

“After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said, “I love you, but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you.”
The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally. That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie. “What’s wrong, are you well?” she asked. My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news. “I thought that it would be pleasant to spend some time with you,” I responded. “Just the two of us.” She thought about it for a moment, and then said, “I would like that very much.” That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary. She smiled
We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips. “It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small,” she said. “Then it’s time that you relax and let me return the favor,” I responded. During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation – nothing extraordinary but catching up on recent events of each other’s life. We talked so much that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, “I’ll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.” I agreed. “How was your dinner date?” asked my wife when I got home. “Very nice. Much more so than I could have imagined,” I answered. A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn’t have a chance to do anything for her. Some time later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place mother and I had dined. An attached note said: “I paid this bill in advance. I wasn’t sure that I could be there; but nevertheless, I paid for two plates – one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you, son.” Family is so important. Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till “some other time.” May Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) bless our parents and families, Ameen!

Hazrat Zainab (May Allah be pleased with her)
H
Hazrat Zainab was one of the most knowledgeable Muslim women. The daughter of the fourth Caliph Hazrat Ali (ra) was respected a lot for her knowledge. She obtained her knowledge from Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and when Hazrat Ali (ra) moved to Kufa, the women there sought his permission through their husbands to allow them to acquire knowledge from Hazrat Zainab (ra). She became known as 'The Wise Lady of the Hashim Clan' (Aqeelat-al-Bani Hashim).
This taught the Muslim world that Islam allows women to get education unlike the culture prevalent in those days which practiced the oppression of women and prevented them from getting any education. The life of Hazrat Zainab (ra) teaches the Muslims some very important lessons. Since times immemorial till present as is seen in many cultures, women are oppressed and normally parents do not wish to waste money on their education because they feel it is not important. However when examples are taken from the history of Islamic personalities, it becomes clear that women had full rights to obtain education and even impart that education i.e. become teachers. Fourteen hundred years ago when people would bury female babies, oppress women and consider them not to be wise, Hazrat Zainab (ra) was one of the Muslim women who proved that women were as intelligent and capable as any man. Her intelligence was without any comparison and no male
could match up with her knowledge and wisdom. Imam Ali Zayn-ul-Abideen (ra) gave her the name 'Alimah Ghair Mualimmah' which would roughly mean 'scholar without a teacher'. Her brothers Imam Hasan (ra) and Imam Hussain (ra) respected her and Guided Ummah her knowledge a lot. She had an active role in society and would teach the women of Medina about Islam and imparted to them her knowledge of the Quran and Islam. Her ability to teach with clarity became well known for which she was further given the titles 'Baligah' and 'Fasihah' meaning 'intensely eloquent' and 'skillfully fluent'. Her life was devoted to the Muslim community and she did not show any attachment to the material gains even though her husband was a wealthy man. She led a modest life without the luxuries and only the necessities. Knowledge, wisdom and eloquence were only some of the characteristics present in Hazrat Zainab (ra). She was also a very brave woman and her bravery served to be an example for the Muslim world. Just like her father she was not scared of death and had the will to fight oppression which is one of the basic teachings of Islam where a Muslim is directed to fight and eradicate any form of oppression. When Hazrat Hussain (ra) went to war with Yazid, his sister Hazrat Zainab was right beside him. This was the tragic incident of Karbala which the Muslim world remembers till today. Each person in that incident played and important part and Hazrat Zainab (ra) was a woman who sacrificed both her sons and prayed to God to accept this humble sacrifice. Such were the people of thought and wisdom and their love for God and His religion was so great that nothing could ever compare to it. The Muslim world today needs to act on these principles. Hazrat Hussain (ra) fought that war due to principles and although he knew that his army which comprised of a few men and included Continue on page 12

bounds through the land, defying right and justice: for such there will be a penalty grievous” (42:42) Islam goes further than just prohibiting oppression and safeguarding rights, it commands its faithful to deal kindly and compassionately to all those who seek to live in peace and harmony "Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for your faith, nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: For Allah loves those who are just" (60:8) In times of war and conflict, where enmity can obstruct an individual’s judgement to act morally, Islam commands that justice be upheld even towards one’s enemies. "O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do" (5:8) Centuries before the Geneva Convention was drawn up, Muslims were bound by a code of conduct which the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, set. He forbade the killing of women, children and elderly in war. In an authentic narration the Prophet (pbuh) warned that he who kills anyone who has a covenant
of peace with the Muslims will not smell the scent of Paradise. In fact, he taught that justice is not only to humans but must be shown to animals and all living things. In a narration the Prophet (pbuh) informed us about how a lady was sent to hell because of a cat she had locked up until it starved and died. If such is the sanctity which Islam places on the soul of an animal, how much more grave is the killing of hundreds of innocent humans?! Abu Bakr the first Calipha of the Muslims reflected these prophetic teachings when he advised his general Yazid, who was confronting Roman armies, "I advise you ten things, Do not kill women or children or an aged, infirm person. Do not cut down fruit-bearing trees. Do not destroy an inhabited place. Do not slaughter sheep or camels except for food. Do not burn bees and do not scatter them. Do not steal from the booty, and do not be cowardly." The message of the Quran is clear as we have seen, that the sanctity of any human life is to be respected and any violation in that regard is paramount to the worst crime. Mercy is at the heart of the Islamic call, “We sent thee (O Muhammad) not save as a mercy for the peoples” (21:107); a totally different message to what the terrorists are sadly imparting to humanity.

women and children stood no chance against Yazid's huge military, he stood there in the battleground not compromising on principles. The Muslim world today has fallen to the level where principles are not important to them and their behavior is inclined to what they think is beneficial for them. The life of Hazrat Zainab teaches the Muslims till today that their main cause in this world should be to strive in the path of God and thus although she knew her sons would be martyred, she supported them when they were preparing to fight against the army of Yazid. In the war she lost her brother and her sons and was taken as a prisoner by Yazid's army. Witnessing such a tragic event did not break her apart and she showed her fury and anger towards the people of Kufa and towards Yazid in his presence. Her address in the court of Yazid included the words “I fear no one but Allah. Make whatever evil plot you can. Blazes are waiting for you in the hereafter. You'll be accountable to Allah for your atrocities”. Such words display the courage which this Muslim woman had and she did not fear the fact that Yazid could have ordered for her execution. She did not fear death and for her what was important was to raise voice against oppression. Boldly she faced ibn Ziyad who planned the murder of Hazrat Hussain (ra) and other of his companions. She refused to accept him or Yazid as correct and continuously said that they had murdered the family members of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and thus would never be forgiven by God. This war was not based solely between good and evil but it was a war of principles and Hazrat Hussain (ra) refused to negotiate on principles even if that would mean death for him. Hazrat Zainab supported her brother and did not persuade him or advise him to let go of principles. She was a God fearing woman who knew that she, being a Muslim should stand up for the truth rather than what is wrong. The whole idea was to portray Hazrat Hussain (ra) as a rebellious leader who stood up against a legitimate Caliphate. This idea was not true and thus in the court of Yazid, Hazrat Zainab (ra) repeatedly denounced his actions and refused to accept him to be correct. An example is set for the Muslim men and women today. Her address in the court of Yazid was so powerful that Yazid himself felt guilty. Guilt took over him as he knew he was on the wrong path and what act his army performed was not according to the Islamic teachings and values. Drenched in tears and sorrow for the loss of her children and her brother,
Hazrat Zainab (ra) still did not accept Yazid to be the legitimate ruler. She did not give up and raised her voice against him in his presence. The prisoners were sent back home under escort and on their return they offered their bangles to the commander who was escorting them for his kind and generous behavior on the way back. Despite of what the army did to her household, Hazrat Zainab (ra) felt that any kindness towards them should not go unrewarded regardless of who extends it towards them. Hazrat Zainab (ra) was amongst the pious women of Islam and her bravery is spoken of even today. She was the grand daughter of the Prophet (pbuh) and her life showed that whatever she learned from the prophet (pbuh), she applied it well to her life. She understood the concepts of Islam and thus felt that she should at no cost accept Yazid to be a legal Caliph of the Islamic world. Hazrat Zainab (ra) was a knowledgeable woman and the Muslim world back then and even today was shown by her that women are as competent as any other man. Only recently the modern world started giving women their rights and even today many cultures still do not give them their due rights. Hazrat Zainab's (ra) will to seek knowledge and then impart it to others makes everyone realize that women are not to be made a target of oppression and injustice should not be done to them. The Muslim world thus argues that women should be given their rights which include education. She sacrificed her two sons in the war of principles where those who were right refused to bow down to that which was wrong not caring about whether they would live or die because their loyalty was to the religion of God and not to the material gains of the world. The Muslim world today can learn a lot from the life of Hazrat Zainab (ra) who was a very powerful woman. Even though her family was murdered and their heads severed, she continued with her struggle to fight for what was right. Accepting something wrong was not her cup of tea. Such principles and love which she showed for God and His religion are rarely found in anyone today and thus it is important for people to learn from the brave women of the past. Today millions of Muslims remember the people who were present at Karbala where this war took place and many recall the voice Hazrat Zainab (ra) raised in the court of Yazid. Her followers loved her and respected her a lot and she imparted to them the values and the importance of sticking to Islamic principles even if one is to face misfortune because of it.

and Africa to the truth of Islam. People knew the tree of Islam by the fruits of the good conduct it produced in its followers.
by
Iman Tajul’Harifeena abu Haneefata
To solve the problem thrown at us and at our identity by the real world outside the mosque gates, we need to engage regularly with nonMuslim society. People convert through personal experience of Muslims. And this takes place overwhelmingly, at the workplace. Other social contexts are closed to us: the pub, the beach, the office party. But work is a prime environment for being noticed, and judged, as Muslims. There is nothing remotely new in this. Islam has always spread primarily through social interactions connected with work. The early Muslims who conquered half the world did not set up soapboxes in the town squares of Alexandria, Cordoba, Fez, in the hope that Christians would flock to them and hear their preaching. They did business with the Christians; and their nobility and integrity of conduct won the Christians over. That is the model followed by Muslims; and it is the one that we must retain today, by interacting with nonMuslims in our places of work, as much as we can. (source:British and Muslim by convert to Islam, Abdal-Hakim Murad)

We cannot get away with merely affirming that we are Muslims and that we have accepted God as our only God and Islam as our religion. Rather, as soon as we acknowledge Allah as our only Lord and His guidance as our way of life, we take upon ourselves certain obligations and duties towards ourselves and towards others.
Importance of good manners towards non-Muslims
To be a man of principles and a pure source of good is not something easy to achieve. Justice, honesty, integrity, kindness, sincerity, and truthfulness are the qualities of the Muslims that opened the hearts of millions of people in Asia
Guiding society by spreading the call of righteousness, fighting atrocities and detestful things, encouraging virtue, enjoining all that is good, helping the people, trying to win the public opinion to the side of Islam, and observing the Islamic principles in all aspects of public life: these are the duty of individual Muslims as well as the community working as a unit. Let us remember that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) spent the first 40 years of his life speaking the truth and became famous as Al-Amin (the truthful) before he started preaching the Truth. Muslims must follow in his path and start condemning intolerance within, even as we demand tolerance from without.
A model of life to others
“...You enjoin the good, forbid the evil, and believe in Allah” 3:110 Our life should be an ideal one which may draw the attention of Western people. It should agitate the minds of the local people who may be compelled to contrast their own lives with ours. That is one of the ways that will make them curious for gaining sound information about Islam. However, if we slavishly imitate the parts of the Western lifestyle that do not agree with Islam, and thus degrade ourselves, there will not be and cannot be any distinction between us and Continue on page 17

the local people. In this case, they will not feel any attraction towards us. Nor will it make them reflect on the Muslim behaviour or hold us in esteem. However, when we present before them a unique way of life, it will make them curious. They will be forced to approach us, seeking the source of our worldview. They will naturally ask us how you learnt these high values and noble ideals. They will be keen to have literature about Islam and its philosophy. It is really important that Muslims present a model and an ideal way of life which may make them interested in studying Islam and eager to know the source of your guidance which enabled you to follow a particular way of life and worldview. This is the only radical way in which you can play an effective role in non-Islamic societies.
Brotherhood in Islam
One of the greatest blessings of Islam is it's admirable success in creating strong, warm, rich and durable bonds of love and brotherhood between men. It is this blessing of love and brotherhood which is the greatest source of sustenance and nourishment for man, but few of us can honestly say that we have experienced true brotherhood. True
Muslim brotherhood implies that you should pray for your brother and want for him what you would want for yourself, and this is the fourth duty. You should pray for him as you pray for yourself making no distinction at all between you and him. You should pray during his life and death that he may have all he might wish for himself, his family and his dependents. The importance of brotherhood is highlighted by the institution of this by the Prophet (pbuh) in his first state in Medina. As many Muslim emigrants were without means of livelihood, the Prophet (pbuh) laid the obligation of supporting them on the Ansar. The institution of brotherhood in its case was not simply a short term measure designed to deal with an immediate economic crisis but a major and permanent feature of the new social order that was emerging under the Prophet. It represented a deliberate choice in favour of a collective, cooperative spirit, over individualism and competitiveness. It was not an abstract unity. It was a real life organic unity that bound all Muslims. The Prophet (pbuh) has described it as such: "You find the Muslims in their mutual love and compassion, like one body, should any organ of it fall ill, the rest of the body will share in the fever and sleeplessness that ensues". (al-Bukhari)

Abdullaah bin Abbaas narrated that Prophet (peace be upon him) once recited a part of the Qur'an to Waleed bin Mughira who had come to him. This caused Waleed's heart to soften. When Abu Jahal heard about this, he approached Waleed saying, "O uncle! Your people intend collecting money for you." "Why is this?" asked Waleed. He replied, "They want to give it to you because you have been to Muhammad to get something from him." Waleed said, "But the Quraysh know well that I am among the wealthiest people." Abu Jahal then said , "You will have to tell them something to make them know that you have nothing to do with Muhammad." Waleed said, "What should I tell them? By Allah! None of you knows as much about poetry as I do. None of you knows as much about rhyming as I do. None of you knows as much about songs as I do. None of you knows as much about the poetry of the Jinn as I do. By Allah! What Muhammad says bears no resemblance to any of these things. By Allah! What he said was extremely sweet, beautiful and attractive. What he said was a flourishing tree the top of which bears abundant fruit and the bottom of which is luxuriantly green. His words shall always be towering without being subdued. His speech crushes all other speech.
Abu Jahal said to him, "Your people shall never be pleased with you until you say something against him." To this, Waleed said, "Give me time to think about it." After thinking awhile, Waleed said, "This is nothing but magic recounted from fables of the past." It was with reference to Waleed that Allah revealed the following verses of the Qur'an: Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin AlMughirah Al-Makhzumi)! And then granted him resources in abundance. And children to be by his side! And made life smooth and comfortable for him! After all that he desires that I should give more; Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! Verily, he thought and plotted; So let him be cursed! How he
plotted! And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! Then he thought; Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; Then he turned back and was proud; Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" I will cast him into Hellfire. (Qur'an 74:11-26) According to a narration reported by Iqrimaah the verse that Prophet (peace be upon him) recited for Waleed was: Verily, Allah enjoins Al-Adl (i.e. justice and worshipping none but Allah Alone - Islamic Monotheism) and Al-Ihsan [i.e. to be patient in performing your duties to Allah, totally for Allah's sake and in accordance with the Sunnah (legal ways) of the Prophet in a perfect manner], and giving (help) to kith and kin (i.e. all that Allah has ordered you to give them e.g., wealth, visiting, looking after them, or any other kind of help, etc.): and forbids Al-Fahsha' (i.e all evil deeds, e.g. illegal sexual acts, disobedience of parents, polytheism, to tell lies, to give false witness, to kill a life without right, etc.), and Al-Munkar (i.e all that is prohibited by Islamic law: polytheism of every kind, disbelief and every kind of evil deeds, etc.), and Al-Baghy (i.e. all kinds of oppression), He admonishes you, that you may take heed. (Qur'an 16:90) Shu'ab al Imaan li Bayhaqi, no. 122, Haafidh al Iraqi said in his takhreej of Ihya Ulumuddin 1/323 that the Isnaad is strong; Mukhtasar Sirat Al-Rasul by Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab 1/106; Dalail alNubuwwa li Bayhaqi 2/199; Mustadarak al Hakeem 2/506 and he said that the Isnaad is saheeh on the conditions of Bukhari; Seerat ibn Hisham, page 368; al Bidayah wan Nihayah 3/60; Tafsir ibn Kathir 4/443

Prostrate with your Heart
D
Do not lift your head off the floor until you get at least one “Subhana Rabbiyal 'Aala” that comes from the heart, mind, tongue, and limbs.
Zoom out picture of yourself like there is a camera over you that goes up and up and up and help yourself with feeling and becoming small in front of ALLAH (azza wajal) Ask for at least three things you want in each sajdah. If Shaytaan comes to you telling you that you are showing off by making a long sujood, never give up make it even longer. Eliminate the thought of time from your mind. Picture yourself making sujood in Makkah, or imagine every single believer making sujood on the Last Day. Realize that Allah the Almighty has the complete power and right to destroy you right then and there for the millions of times you've slipped, made mistakes, etc. Put yourself in the shoes of a Muslim prisoner. Picture yourself doing sujood in a small, dirty cell with four walls closing in on you. Do sujood in random places and vary as much as you can, as every piece of ground you've prostrated on will testify for you on the Day of Judgement! If you can't shed at least one tear in sujood or during prayer, then remember the sunnah of Umar
(RadhiAllahu Anhu ) when he would pretend to cry if he couldn't. Imagine Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam making sujood. Do sujood al-shukr ( the prostration of thankfulness). The Prophet (SallAllahu Alyhi Wa Sallam ) prostrated frequently in response to a calamity or a blessing that came to him! Revive this forgotten sunnah in your daily life! Let's End With a Beautiful Incident From the Seerah Rabi'a bin Ka'b (RadiAllahu Anhu), a companion of the Prophet ( SallAllahu Alyhi Wa Sallam ) said: " I was with Allah's Messenger (SallAllahu Alyhi wa Sallam ) one night and I brought him water and what he required. He said to me: “Ask [anything you like].” I said: “I ask your company in Paradise.” He said: “Anything else besides it?” I said: “That is all (that I require).” He said: “ Then help me to achieve this for you by devoting yourself often to prostration.” [Muslim] Sujood is the greatest thing a Muslim can do; it's the one thing Shaytan wouldn't do... O Allah, make us of the saajideen— make us increase our sujood, make our hearts present, elevate us through every sajdah, and erase our sins, Aameen. Edition One l 22
