Welcome to the Domain for the final time in 2017. Today we host Loaded WaiBOP Premiership champions, Ngongotaha, in what’s a fitting way to end our season. I think we’d all like to congratulate everyone at Ngongotaha on their wonderful season. Scoring over 100 goals and being unbeaten is an amazing record, no matter what level you play at. I still remember coming runners-up several times before we finally won the Premiership (Fed 1 back then) so I know the elation Ngongie will be feeling from getting over the line themselves after going close a number of times. As for us, we can look back on a vastly improved effort in 2016. Whether we end up second or third after today it’s a far better feeling than scraping to avoid relegation. So well done to Paul, the support staff and the players on their season. We’re holding a Quiz Night on October 1 to help raise funds for our U-19 team’s trip to Napier at Labour Weekend. You can find more info on this elsewhere in this magazine. We’re one of very few WaiBOP clubs that regularly send a side to this major tournament and we see it as an important offering for our young players. Hopefully you can make it along to support the boys as well as have a fun evening. I’d like to thank the club’s sponsors for supporting us during another season. We’ve had a consistent group of businesses and individuals backing the club for a number of years now and it certainly makes a difference. We’d struggle to offer what we do without their investment So that’s just about that from me for another season. Hopefully you enjoy this afternoon’s entertainment and, just as importantly, your summer. We’ll see you at 5-a-side, which starts in less than two weeks, and then in 2017 for another season of Matamata Swifts football. Dwayne Barlow, Club Mouthpiece
