Matamata Swifts v Otumoetai WaiBOP Premiership - 2.45pm

Swifts Reserves v Te Puke

WaiBOP Championship - 12.30pm Saturday April 4, 2015. Matamata Domain, Matamata.

A Few Kind Words Welcome to the Matamata Domain for a tough Easter Saturday double header against two sides likely to finish near the top of the WaiBOP Premiership and Championship. Otumoetai look to have recruited well and I expect they’ll be leading the pack chasing league favourites Cambridge. It’s 2015 a tough ask for us to take on a couple of the best teams at Management this start of the season, but at least it will give Chris and the Committee squad a clear indication of the level we need to perform at if we’re to end up where we want to be this season. Welcome Patron to Richard and his team. Jack Poole Te Puke return to the WaiBOP Championship after several seasons away and got going with a fine win over Te Awamutu President last Saturday. The Championship has the makings of a Julie Clothier fascinating league this year, with new sides like Te Puke, Vice-President Whakatane and Kawerau boosting the flavour of what was Malcolm Raynel previously a rather bland competition. Treasurer Our double header against Cambridge last weekend Dave Mann didn’t go entirely to plan, but at least it allowed us to get our Secretary campaign underway. Debbie Sankey The Waikato Stud Swifts got a little lesson in intensity from the team that will win the league. Two pretty bad errors led Club Captain to goals in the first ten minutes, which is a no-no against Ronan Costello good sides. Thankfully those are the sort of things we can fix. Committee The rest of the performance was highly competitive, so as Pete Challis frustrating as the scoreline was at least we know it wasn’t all Ana Paterson bad. I’m sure the players have already moved on from it. Junior Convenor I’m looking forward to following the development of some Cathy O’Callaghan of the guys in our young reserve team. Paul’s done a great Club Development Mgr job with the side so far and I expect some of these players will Dwayne Barlow be pressing for 1st team spots in the very near future. We’re all about youth this season and it’s looking good so far. The Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies get their season underway next Sunday. It took us a little while longer than PICTURED we’d have liked to get the team going this season, but they’re Front Cover Luis John and Shaun all set now with a new management team and a keen squad Richardson fight for the ball last of players. I’d also like to thank Dave Harris from Challenge weekend against Cambridge reserves. Matamata for continuing his long-standing naming rights Page three Ronan Costello rises sponsorship of the team. like a salmon in a Cambridge sandwich.
