Waikato Stud Matamata Swifts v Rotorua Utd WaiBOP Premiership - 2.45pm
Richardson Racing Stables Swifts Reserves v Claudelands Rovers WaiBOP Championship - 12.30pm Matamata Domain | Saturday August 29, 2015
A Few Kind Words This has been a challenging old season at times, and the last few weeks have been about as tough as I’d care for it to ever be. Within the space of a few days we heard of the passing of Eric van Waveren then the management committee made the decision to remove Chris Powell 2015 from his position as first team coach. Management Eric was a club legend. It’s impossible to describe his Committee influence on our club in the limited space available here. He was a top class player, knowledgeable coach, valuable Patron administrator and major contributor to Matamata Swifts Jack Poole AFC over more than 30 years. He was also the sort of bloke you enjoyed being around. Eric will be seriously President missed. Julie Clothier As far as I can remember, and I go back a long, long Vice-President way, we’ve never before felt the need to sack our first Malcolm Raynel team coach. So asking Chris to leave was a big decision Treasurer and certainly wasn’t made lightly. Dave Mann In the end we had to make a call based on both our Secretary immediate need - WaiBOP Premiership survival - and Debbie Sankey the future. Hopefully we can finish the season positively, have a great experience at the U-19s in Napier, then start Club Captain planning early so that our 2016 season doesn’t turn into Ronan Costello a Groundhog Day of 2014 and 2015. Committee Paul has been asked to see out the season and I know Pete Challis he’ll attack this opportunity in the same way he organised Ana Paterson the reserves. I wish him and the players the best as we Junior Convenor look to re-find our confidence and get a few results. We Cathy O’Callaghan sure need it. Club Development Mgr I’ve just enough space to welcome today’s two visiting Dwayne Barlow teams. We’ve had some decent battles with Rotorua United over the years and, as we both need a result, I’m sure we’ll see the same today. Claudelands Rovers have had an excellent season in the Championship and I hope we’ll see an open, goal-laden, curtain raiser between two good footballing sides.
