Mr. Sabestian Fernandes (St. Agnel Polytechnic, Goa) was invited as the resource person for the day. The discussion started with Mr. Sabestian briefing the students on various career ventures available for them to sustain themselves and their families. “There are no shortcuts in life,” he explained to the students. He also shared on how these youth need to begin at an entry level job with limited qualification and experience in the field work. He insisted everyone is required to build his or her own credibility at the workplace. Today, the employers look for multi skilled people who can perform several tasks at one time. Next everyone needs to be properly groomed from head to foot including the attire and behaviourial pattern. The communication is equally important along with the positive outlook. The students were even motivated to take risk in life.

Under the guidance of Mr. MD Nasim Akhtar (Supervisor, Electrical Department, Usha Martin), a guest lecture was conducted on July 8, 2013 at DB Tech (Kokar). The resource person initiated the lecture by explaining the meaning of industrial motor by giving its definition. The students were even informed about the safety precaution they need to take as working with electricity can be dangerous. Engineers, electricians, and other professionals work with electricity directly while working on overhead lines, cable harnesses, and circuit assemblies. Keeping this in mind, he shared some precaution tips with candidates such as -: • Be Safety Conscious: Practice safety when working on any circuit and slow down! When you are hurry, there is a greater chance for an accident to occur. • Shut the Power Off: Always shut off the power to a circuit or device that you will be working on. • Test the Circuit: After turning a circuit off, it's a good idea to check it with a tester to be sure that, indeed, it is off. • Ladders: Never use an aluminum ladder on any electrical project. Always use an insulated fiberglass ladder to keep you safe. • Wet Locations: Avoid wet areas when working on anything electrical. If there is a reason that you have to be in that situation, wear rubber boots and gloves to lessen the chance of getting a shock. Tools and appliances should be plugged into a GFCI outlet or GFCI extension cord.
