needs of the family. Formal education system which evaluates marks and grades didn’t impress him. He failed in class 10th board exam which became an excuse for his relatives and neighbors to abuse and discourage him from living a decent life free of poverty. In his effort to escape from these daily taunts, he landed up in bad company with some notorious friends, which made his condition even worse. During this period of struggle, Muthaiah came to know about Don Bosco Tech training through the posters that he saw on a wall around his neighborhood. Interested and inquisitive about the programme, he visited the centre where he underwent counseling. Finally, he enrolled himself in to ITES domain training under ITC’s ‘Sunnera Kal Mission’ project in November 2015. It was not a pleasant beginning for Muthaiah, as he found himself hard to adjust and involved in the session because he was already having negative impressions about formal schooling and teaching. But interactive sessions and classroom activities made him enjoy the learning and to understand the purpose of learning. He understood that he could be a useful and earning member supporting the livelihood of his family. As the course progressed, trainers also witnessed the changes in Muthaiah’s behavior. Post training, Muthaiah was placed in SSR Traders, Vilathikulam with a monthly remuneration of Rs. 7000. “My life begins here. Thanks to Don Bosco Tech Society and ITC for lighting up lives of many youngsters like me through these wonderful programmes. I will never forget the support and encouragement I received from my trainers who have not only instilled skills in me but also gave confidence to face my life,” says Muthaiah when contacted for post placement tracking.
