Celebration Overview

DCAT’s Board of Directors celebrating the 125th Anniversary before the DCAT Annual Dinner in 2015.

The Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association celebrated the 125th Anniversary of its founding during DCAT Week ’15 in New York City, March 16-19, 2015. DCAT members celebrated this milestone throughout the week at special anniversary events including the DCAT Leadership Breakfast, DCAT Member Company Networking Event, and the 89th DCAT Annual Dinner. DCAT would like to thank all the companies who have supported the organization with their membership over the years. From the 50 companies who founded the organization in 1890, to the 405 global companies who support DCAT today in 2015. We’d also like to thank the volunteers from our member companies who have generously shared their time, vision, expertise and passion. Cheers to 125 years and beyond!

89th DCAT Annual Dinner Steeped in a rich history and tradition, the DCAT Annual Dinner is the association’s signature black-tie event. This year marked the largest DCAT Annual Dinner on record as over 2,000 industry representatives came together to celebrate another successful DCAT Week and the 125th Anniversary of the organization. The keynote speaker for the evening was Tony Blair, Former Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. DCAT’s 1st Vice President and Annual Dinner Chair Dr. Folker Ruchatz of Boehringer Ingelheim kicked off the evening by reflecting on how the organization began. He shared that, in the summer of 1890, fifty local business leaders in New York City united to form a Drug Trade Section of the New York Board of Trade – which would later become known as DCAT. One of those leaders was George Merck of E. Merck and Company. Dr. Ruchatz then introduced a representative of one of the founding members, Udit Batra, President and CEO of Merck Millipore, to say a few words. After dinner, a special birthday cake was served compliments of Teva API. Then DCAT President George Svokos (AMRI) recognized the current leadership as well as the 20 past presidents in attendance, who are still actively supporting the organization long after their terms ended. Later, everyone journeyed back to the year 1890, with the premiere of the DCAT Anniversary Video – “A Walk Through Our History”, which you can view online here. The video shows 125 years of DCAT history juxtaposed with the history of the pharmachem industry. After Mr. Blair’s keynote address and a great Q&A with Dr. Ruchatz, the evening concluded with a very special anniversary toast. You can view the toast video online here. It was certainly an evening for the DCAT history books. Now, the organization looks forward to celebrating the 90th DCAT Annual Dinner next year!
