Best matches of Asian Cups South Korea VS Australia Two strongest teams in Qatar 2011 Asian cup were seeded in Group C. After both teams have managed to defeat Bahrain and India, they had to play against each other on 14th of January. The tremendous number of people came to watch the game showed it was one of the biggest and most interesting games in Asian Cup.
Countless number of shots were made and players were running more than 10 kilometers. Ji-‐sung Park (Manchester United) was chosen to be the Player of the match.
Koo Ja-‐cheol, South Korea’s new rising star, was chosen to be the MVP on game against Bahrain and had scored 2 goals already. Before the game, majority of the journalists and supporters predicted that Koo Ja-‐cheol would be able to score again against Australia. Timothy Cahill said that there are many great players in Republic of Korea such as Lee Chung-‐yong, Ki Sung-‐yong, Park Ji-‐sung and Lee Young-‐pyo
Timmothy Cahill-‐ “We showed good character to come back in he second half. It was a weird game and it was surprising to see some of their tactics.”
Saša Ognenovski, an Australian player playing for Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma FC in South Korea, said that he knows most of the players in South Korean squad and have played against each other before, so it would be easy for him to defend. South Korean head coach mentioned that players would need to play smartly against Saša Ognenovski as he knows Korean players quite well.
One of the most greatest classic rival matches of all time, Korea VS Japan game was to decide who to go to the `inals. East Asia Derby (South Korea versus Japan) is probably the most interesting and most popular game of the tournament. South Korea’s `ierce rival the Samurai Blue (Nickname for Japanese team) had an extra day to rest, whereas Taeguk Warriors (Nickname for South Korean team) had to play a 120minutes game against Iran in Quarter`inals.

Both teams had equal possession of the ball until South Korea’s new rising star, Koo Ja-‐ cheol (Jeju United) scored his 3rd goal of the tournament. After Ji Dongwon got a pass from Jung Seong-‐ryong (Goalkeeper) he passed the ball to Koo Ja-‐cheol who managed to calmly strike it in to the back of the net. After second-‐half started, Australian players seemed to played better by pressuring opponents and tightly marking players. Harry Kewell crossed the ball from corner kick to Timothy Cahill who was unmarked, then Cahill headed to ball to Mile Jednak, who managed to equalize the game by heading that ball into the net. Jung Seong-‐ryong (South Korean Goalkeeper) said ,“It was my fault since I have made a mistake when blocking the ball.” The intensity of the game showed the quality of football of Asian countries.
Saša Ognenovski –“I think Park Ji-‐sung was outstanding today”
Cho Kwang-‐rae (head coach) -‐ “We could have won the game if you see the general performance of our team.”
South Korea VS Japan
Intensity of the game was foreseen from the action of the supporters. Japanese supporters were cheering in extremely an offensive way. They brought ‘Rising Sun Flag’ which indicates that South Korea was a Japanese Colony, furthermore, a majority of them were also wearing Yu-‐na Kim’s Mask (Korean `igure skating Olympics gold medalist, she is also best known as Japanese `igure skater Asada Mao’s “`ierce rival” by the Japanese people). Traditionally in Japan, people wear a mask that has someone’s face that they hate. This is known to be very insulting and most of the high school students in Japan do this to bully their friends in school. When the game started, Japanese ruled the game for about `irst 20minutes of the game. They played as team which was shown by their accurate passes. They also seemed less exhausted than the Korean players seemed to be.

However, soon after, Yasuyuk Konno, Japanese defender, fouled on Korean star Park Ji-‐sung, thus giving away penalty kick. Ki Sung Yong (Celtic FC), who took the penalty kick ran into the Japanese supporters, and insulted the Japanese by making a monkey face. Because the South Koreans call Japanese ‘monkeys’, when insulting, Japanese supporters thought that that was an unacceptable goal ceremony. However, to stop this `ight between Korean football association and Japanese football association, Korean fans said that, Ki Sung yong did the monkey impression to highlight the racism of Scottish football fans. When second half of the game started, Honda Keisuke passed the ball to Yuto Nagatomo, who was overlapping from left side of the pitch and then crossed the ball to Shinji Maeda. He managed to strike the ball in to the back of the net and equalized the game. After 90minutes of the game ended, all players looked extremely exhausted. South Korean defender fouled on Shinji Maeda, thus got a penalty kick. Honda Keisuke failed to score the penalty kick, but when the ball bounced back, Hajime Hosogai touched the ball into the net. Koreans appealed about this goal, as Hajime Hosogai ran in to the penalty box before Honda Keisuke even kicked the ball. When the game was about to end, Korean players hardly equalized the game, Japan and Korea had to go to penalty shootout. Unluckily for Taeguk Warriors, after they played two 120minutes games in 3 days, were extremely tired and even kicking a ball from 11meters away from the net seemed impossible. As a result, Korea lost to Japan in Penalty shootout 2:2(3-‐0). Koo Ja cheol, Lee Yong rae and Hong Joeng ho all failed to score in penalty shootout. After the game have `inished, they all said, during the practice, they had no problem in scoring a goal from Penalty line. However, as they all have played for long time and were mentally and physically exhausted, they could not score a goal.
duty, was the only other player in the Korean squard with more caps than Park Ji-‐sung. Lee Young-‐pyo started his football career in Anyang LG Cheetahs then transferred to PSV, then later transferred to Tottenham Hotspur, Broussia Dortmund and currently is playing for Al-‐ Hilal. Park Ji-‐sung, currently playing for Manchester united and national team captain, showed little disappointment, as this tournament will be his last Asian cup in his career as a player. However, as a captain “I have decided to retire from the national team” – former To(enham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund star. – Lee Young pyo “Today’s game was a very tough game over 120 minutes, in the first half, it was very tough for us physically but in the second half, we came back to our level but we finally lost on penalties so that’s a great pity.” – Lee Young pyo “I feel good and I’m very happy” -‐ Honda Keisuke “Over 120 minutes, every player worked really hard so I was thinking that when it came to penalties, it was going to be my time to work.” – Kawashima (Goal keeper) “Credit to the Koreans they are a strong team and winning against such a fantastic team makes me even more happy.” – Alberto Zaccheroni (Head Coach) “They never gave up and pressured the opponent until the last minute of the match and were able to score a second before the full time to take the game to penalties” – Cho Kwang-‐rae (Head Coach)

Australia VS Japan
He also said, “I kept talking to myself, saying I’ll be a hero. I’ll be a hero’ before I went onto the pitch”.
Absence of the Japanese rising star, Kagawa Shinji did not stop Japan from beating Australia in the Finals. Japan was claimed the Champion of Asia, at Khalifa International stadium, Doha. For the 120minutes of the game, Australian footballers were playing much better than the Japanese players.
Zaccheroni, former head coach of Juventus and interazionale Milan, have managed to put Japanese national football into top class just in 6 months. Japanese football association is now having strong belief on him.
Despite the constant attacks from Australia, they didn’t easily hit the back of Japan’ net. Soon after, Mark Schawarzer when trying to prevent a corner kick, tried to stop the ball from going behind the pitch, but failed to kick it properly, the ball went to Nagatomo, who then kicked the ball over the bar. This was one of the most dangerous moments of Australia. however, Japan also had dangerous moments. Wilkshire’s cross hit the bar and the ball bounced to Cahill, who tried to use his chest to push the ball in the goal, but Maya Yoshida cleared the ball, and managed to cover Eiji Kawashima’s misjudgment.
Timmothy Cahill -‐ “We were playing much better than Japan, we should have won the game but we were little unlucky.” Zaccheroni – “Honda, Endo and Hasebe did not train, Okazaki yesterday couldn’t even walk, Nagatomo had a foot problem and couldn’t prepare.” Zaccheroni -‐ “We were playing against a very good physical and tactical team like Australia, so the final was a separate game.”

When it came to extra times, both teams looked extremely exhausted. Australian substitute Robbie Kruse almost made an influence to the game as soons as he went in but his header from Emerton’s cross went just over the bar. Rank Goals Name However, one counterattack by Samurai Blue let the Aussies down. The winning goal finally came after 108minutes of Australia’s attack, when Nagatomo’s substitute Tadanari Lee,scored a goal from eight yards away from the goal.

It was Tadanari Lee’s second national duty, and he became an important member of the team. Tadanari Lee is Korean-‐ Japanese, who had a trial with the Korean U-‐19s in 2004 in Korea but failed to make the cut. He could have made the team, but he refused to play for Korea, as Korean youth players insulted him. Since Tadanari Lee lived in Japan, he decided to change his nationality to Japan and play for Japan. However, as he still respects Korea, and his family, he decided not to change his surname to Japanese and left it as “Lee”. He once interviewed with Korean Broadcast that he does not want to live as neither Korean nor Japanese, he just wants to live as a footballer.

2010/2011 winter Transfer Market
Do you guys Twitt footballers?
Many footballers transfer to new teams with the start of new year. Everyday, actually every few hours, new transfer news came out so it was little tough to catch up the news on time. However, now the market is now closed and some footballers used Twitter to express their surprise at some of the deals. Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal Captain) -‐ “Transfer deadline day going crazy today in England.... I never expected what’s happening.” Robin van Perise -‐ “BIG spending this transfer window! Didn’t expect this at all. Curious what gonna happen these last couple of hours!!!” Rio Ferdinand -‐ “Carrol has huge potential no doubt, is 35m still not a hefty sum of money in this recession we are meant to be in! He will be top player” Jack Wilshere (Arsenal mid`ielder) -‐ “BREAKING TRANSFER NEWS: I have just moved from the sofa to my bed!!’

Transfer Market 1. Edin Dzeko Edin Dzeko Bosnia / striker 17th March 1986 Number: 10 192 cm 80 kg From Wolfsburg to Man City Transfer fee: £27 million Bosnian diamond, Edin Dzeko is holding his new uniform with Mancini, manager of the Manchester City
The Bosnian started his football career in Dvorana Željezničar in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2003. He moved to Teplice, Czech Republic in 2005. In 2007, he transferred to VFL Wolfsburg, Germany. He made a pretty interesting result in there. Indeed, unless you were not insane about football, Wolfsburg would be unfamiliar to you at that time, but now it’s more popular than when Dzeko brought first Bundesliga cup to Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg won their first Bundesliga in 2008-‐2009 season. It was a real shock for German because Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Werder Bremen were the three teams that usually won Bundesliga for long time. Man city won against Wolves by 4-‐3 at City of Manchester, which was Edin Dzeko’s debut as well. Although he isn’t the best player among the Written by Jeff Jung IBJHE
22, City’s fans would have enjoyed their first glimpse of Edin Dzeko for sure.
Darren Ashley Bent England / Striker 6th February 1984 Number: 39 180 cm 73 kg From Sunderland to Aston Villa Transfer fee: £24 million Why didn’t Aston villa bring any players during summer pre-‐season? Martin O’ Neill already left Villa and he was the person who could pull up Villa up to 4th place in the league, possibly or at least 7th, obviously. Aston villa’s owner blew a nice chance to join Europe’s league and now he probably have realized that it was a mistake. Probably, now he knows 17th is not a suitable place for Villa. Aston Villa made a new record for Bent. They are estimated to spent £24 million for him that is much higher than previous record, £12 million for James Milner. 10
Can Darren Bent save Aston Villa from relegation?
Can Jose Mourinho train Emmanuel Adebayor?
Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor Togo / striker 26th February 1984 Number: 6 He can be a ‘jersey man’ now. He started in Ipswich Town in 2001. He was in its youth system as well. In 2005 summer, he moved to Charlton Athletic, where he became the highest scoring Englishman in the EPL in 2005-‐06 season. However, Charlton was relegated to the Championship so he decided to move to White Heart Lane in 2007. In a game against Portsmouth in 2009, he missed a really easy open goal. Right after this game, Harry Redknapp said, ‘you will never get a better chance to win a match than that. My missus could have scored that one.’ He moved to Sunderland and again to Aston Villa in January 2011. He scored the only goal in a game against Man City, which was an impressive debut.
11
191 cm 75 kg Loan to Real Madrid from Man City Emmanuel Adebayor signed a loan negotiation to play in Real Madrid, Spain for the rest half of the season. It was a win-‐win-‐ win loan for the two teams and the player as well. Adebayor was talked about his behavior when he moved to Manchester from London. He could not make best 11 in there, which was quite shocking for majority of the footall fans. Despite the fact that, Manchester City has many quality strikers, Mancini just wanted to have one player playing at upfront. Tevez, Santa Cruz, Balotteli, Jo, and Adebayor were competing. Moreover, Dzeko joined the team recently, which made the competition even more competitive. This means Adebayor only could play for FA cups. Luckily, as he moved to Real Madrid, we will be able to see this Adebayor’s energetic
playing style in Bernabeu, unless Gonzalo Higuain comes back. Manchester City have too many players to join Europe league and 25 roasters so they already agreed to loan for Wayne Bridge, Santa Cruz, and now Adebayor to Real Madrid. Whether it is Mourinho’s decision or Perez’s decision, it is obvious that Adebayor is a precious new year’s gift for Real Madrid. They lost Higuain already and Lyon’s Benzema is gone. It is more possible for Real Madrid to replace Barcelona’s in the league table with Adebayor than with Benzema.

Real Madrid VS Barcelona
Mourinho vs Guardiola The managers of the best teams in the world, Mourinho and Guardiola are clearly very capable mangers. Mourinho, last season, winning both the UEFA Championsleague and the Italian Serie A league, showed his ability to WIN. ∴Real > Barca
Alonso vs Busquets Both the CDM of each team, Alonso and Busquets are continuously compared with each other inevitably. However in every aspect there is that a player can possess, Alonso is better than Busquets undoubtedly. ∴Real > Barca
Carvalho vs Puyol The Portugese and the Spanish are always compared but Puyol has the speed, strength, goal-scoring ability and the experience. ∴Barca > Real
obvious that David Villa is more experienced and better at scoring goals. ∴Barca > Real
Casillas vs Valdes Both on the 2010 World Cup Champion team Spain, Casillas and Valdes are brilliant goalkeepers. However, Casillas was the starting goalkeeper while Valdes didn’t get to play in the World Cup at all. It is obvious that Casillas is a better goalie. ∴Real > Barca
Messi vs Ronaldo The most expensive players currently in the world and the best players in the world, Messi and Ronaldo are inevitably compared all the time. Although Ronaldo hold more goals currently in the season, their positions are not just about goal-scoring. The winner of FIFA Ballon d'Or award last year, Messi may be the more valuable player. ∴Barca > Real
Ramos vs Alves The attacking RWBs of each team, Ramos and Alves are extremely valuable to their respective teams. Ramos the starting RWB on the 2010 World Cup winning team, Spain, and Alves the RM of the world greatest national team Brazil… It is difficult to say who is better. ∴Real = Barca
Higuain vs Villa Higuain and Villa the forwards of each team, both have speed, technique and excellent goalscoring ability. However, it is

Newcastle upon Tyne, which is the full name of Newcastle. Obviously, Newcastle could develop really fast with the coal industry but on the other hand, Sunderland had nothing to do with coal. From this moment, those two residues became the pure rival since there was high wealth gap between the two sides. Newcastle and Sunderland found again themselves on opposite sides during the Jacobite Rebellions, with Newcastle in support of the Hanoverians with the German King George, and Sunderland siding with the Scottish Stuarts. Especially, in 1970, there were many angry forces about the result or referee with Hooligan’s arising. Even today, police arrests about 50 people every derby. This number dropped hugely but still, it is higher than other matches.

Merseyside derby is the oldest derby in England. It has started from 1894 October 13th. By looking at the statistics of the Merseyside derby, we can see that Liverpool have won a lot more than Everton did. After the 216th Merseyside derby match at An`ield, both teams only managed to gain 1 point each. Interestingly, it was `irst league match for Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish who is best known for legend of Liverpool and 100th league game for Fernando Torres in Liverpool. After the match, Kenneth said, “Players were playing with commitment and con`idence. Although we only managed to gain 1 point, we were just unlucky.” Unfortunately, Timothy Cahill, great Australian goal scorer, was playing for national team in Qatar 2011 Asian cup. On last Merseyside derby, Timothy Cahill scored a great goal against Liverpool FC, which led to Everton victory Liverpool FC. After 30minutes of Liverpool’s attack, Dirk Kuyt’s shot was bounced back to Raul Meireles, who scored his `irst goal in Liverpool. Although, Liverpool scored a great goal, Liverpool’s Written by Tony Kim IBSOS
countless shots did not hit the back of the net. Right after, second half of the game has started, Jermain Beckford and Sylvain Distin scored two goals. Which made the game a lot harder for Liverpool. However, after Maxi Rodriguez won a penalty kick, Dirk Kuyt scored a goal from a penalty line. Game ended with a tie game. Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel was chosen to be the worst player of the game with rate of 5.0 points. Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Liverpool’s Fernando Torres were chosen to be the best player who both were got 7.5 points out of 10. Fernando Torres was chosen to be the best player by fans. One positive outcome of the game was that Fernando Torres is starting to become an attack minded striker. It looks like Liverpool supporter are welcoming and hoping Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish to stay with Liverpool. Steven Gerrard, Captain of Liverpool FC, said that he will try his best to make sure Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish stays with Liverpool FC till end of the season.

Transfer Market 3. Fernando Torres: Happy to be blue. Fernando Torres Spain / striker 20th March 1984 Back number: 185 cm 78 kg Transfer to Chelsea from Liverpool Transfer Fee: £50 million
Fernando Torres, just hours before Feburary, signed for 5years 6months deal with Chelsea and is now going to play for the blues. Fernando Torres started his career in Madrid. He started as a member of Atletico and even the team was relegated, Torres didn’t leave the team. Atletico returned back immediately and Torres became the new captain of Atletico Madrid at 19 only. With this young new captain, Atletico joined the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2004. He refused Chelsea’s offer in 2005 and Newcastle’s offer as well. However, after 2006 Germany World Cup, Atletico agreed a deal with Liverpool for Torres. It was about £25 million. In the `irst year in Liverpool, he made a great success with Benetiz. He was just after Christiano Ronaldo for the FWA Footballer of the Year award. Once again, Chelsea offered £50 million to sign him but the owner of Liverpool, Tom 21
Hicks said, ‘I would not allow Torres to leave the club at any price.’ The second year was not bad. He got third in FIFA World Player of the Year after Ronaldo and Messi. However, his slump started with 2009-‐10 season. He got injured frequently. Finally, in the last day of 2011 winter transfer season, Liverpool signed £50 million offer from Chelsea just few hours before closing. Alan Shearer’s disciple, Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez will replace Fernando Torres. Torres completed `ive and a half year deal with Chelsea. This transfer made Fernando Torres the fourth overall most expensive footballer of all time. Crisitano Ronaldo is the `irst and then Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kaka and `inally Fernando Torres. Torres is now Chelsea’ number 9 following in the footsteps of former Chelsea strikers Kerry Dixon, Roy Bently and Peter Osgood. “He grew up as a Liverpool player and Liverpool has also gorwn s he’s been a plyer on the team.” -‐ Pepe Reina “I think it was probably better than Fernando moved on if he didn’t 100 percent want to be here or it was going to happen in the summer.” -‐ Jamie Carragher “Whether people agree with how he’s gone, supporter can’t deny he was an absolutely fantastic player for Liverpool.” -‐ Jamie Carragher “I’m an Atletico fan, I never kissed the Liverpool badge” -‐ Fernando Torres

The Unexpected Brilliance Presented by the Newcomers
Blackpool FC, Newcastle United, West Bromwich Albion
What a brilliant performance from the Newcomers in English Premier League Blackpool: Blackpool currently 16th in the league, the Tangerines is doing so much well than it was expected to do. Starting off the season with a remarkable 4 point win against Wigan Athletic, Blackpool has continued its brilliant performance in many of the games. Later on in the season in Gameweek 2,3,4, the Seasiders faced solid opponents such as Arsenal and Fulham. In Gameweek 4, against the rival promoted team Newcastle United, Blackpool gained a 2-‐0 victory that contributed greatly to the morale of the team as a whole. In Gameweek 10, Blackpool beat the other promoted team WBA. The reason for Blackpool’s great performance is that it has strong forwards: Varney, Campbell, Taylor-‐Fletcher and Harewood. The abundance of strikers in the team does not imperil the team when one of them gets injured. Charlie Adam is undoubtedly the most valuable player on the team. Acting as a playmaker, Adam already has 4 goals and 4 assists. This piece of statistics, however, does not fully show Adam’s value to the team. In this season alone, Adam has been selected to be the man of the match for 8 games. It is not only the midfielders and forwards that are brilliant but the defenders are also outstanding. Evatt and Crainey are the main players in the defense line. The goal-‐scoring defenders have contributed greatly to the team. Blackpool is certainly far from getting relegated this season.
Newcastle United: Newcastle United currently has the best players out of the 3 newcomers. Newcastle s goal getter Andy Carroll has been showing outstanding performances this season; for a while, he was the top scorer in the league. He currently has 11 goals and 6 assists. Despite his lack of experience and his young age, Carroll has been also selected by Capello to be in the English National Team. Carroll s thigh injury has given a chance to Ameobi who also has put on unexpected brilliant plays in games. The Magpies also have the best midfielders in the league: Kevin Nolan
23
and Joey Barton. Nolan is the other goal getter in the team. Although he is a defender, he has scored astounding number of goals. Until now he has 10 goals. Barton is more of an assister. He has assisted 6 goals so far in the season. Newcastle United has had many multi-goal-scoring games. In Gameweek 2 the Magpies defeated Aston Villa 6-0 at home. Later on in the season, Newcastle beat Sunderland and West Ham 5-1, 5-0 respectively. If Newcastle United continues to play like they did until this time of the season, they might even enter the UEFA Europa League. (This article was written before Andy Carroll moved to Liverpool)
West Bromwich Albion: Though the lowest in rank out of the three newcomers, WBA is definitely doing better than expected. Pulling a shocking draw with Manchester United and beating Sunderland at the start of the season, WBA certainly surprised all the premier league fans. West Brom has a decent goalkeeper. Scott Carson, though because of the weak center backs has only obtained one clean sheet throughout the season, he has made some amazing saves that were significant to the team. WBA have weak center backs but have outstanding goal-‐scoring wing backs. Jara and Cech using their speed as their advantage, break through the left and right edges of the field, give excellent through passes and crosses to the forwards. WBA also has an extremely valuable winger: Chris Brunt. He already has assisted 10 goals and scored 2. Brunt is certainly a necessary player for WBA when the team is attacking. Baggies lose one of the two essential players, they will not be able to attack efficiently. Another essential player is clearly Odemwingie. The Nigerian scored 2goals against Newcastle united and Blackpool each and in total he has scored 8 goals throughout the season. If the Baggies lose one of the two essential players, they will not be able to attack efficiently.

As a result, Koo Ja cheol was chosen to be MVP of K-‐League, top assist leader and helped Jeju United to come 2nd in the league. After his commitment to the team, he was asked to play for national team in 2011 Qatar Asian Cup. On 9th March 1908, ‘Football Club Internazionale Milano’ was established. The `irst captain of Internazionale was a Swiss player, Hernst Manktl. Its club color is black, blue and gold. In 1910, Inter won the Italian league for the `irst time and they won their `irst Coppa Italia two years later. ‘Great Inter’ era began in 1960. They won Scudetto three years in a row and two Intercontinental Cups in 1964 and 1965. 26 years later, they defeat Roma in UEFA Cup `inal. Current Manchester City’s manager, Roberto Mancini brought a trophy to Inter which was in seven years. From 2005 to 2010, they won scudetto for `ive years consecutively, Juventus relegation helping this success. In 2009-‐10 season, they made a treble (Serie A, Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions league) with Jose Mourinho. However, when Rafael Benitez brought a huge failure to Giuseppe Meazza. He is not the manager now, but because of him, Inter is ranked as fourth in the league.
Coach career in Liverpool FC
When he was in there, he persuaded Gerrard to stay but failed to save Michael Owen from Real Madrid’s offer. However, he brought Garcia and Xavi Alonso from Spain. His legendary story started with this season and especially in the Champions League, he made a great success. They beat Chelsea in semi`inal and faced AC Milan in the `inal. Unfortunately, they were losing by three goals but with his calm methodical approach and great leadership during half time made tie and they `inally won in penalty shoot out by 3-‐2. Jerzy Dudek’s waving movement was bit hillarious but it
was very effective. Surprisingly, Benitez chose Reina as the `irst option rather than Dudek.
had made, a treble the previous season, Jose Mourinho.
George Gillett and Tom Hicks became the new owner of Liverpool FC and it was really bad decision for the Kops. At the beginning, they looked OK because they invested much money on new players like Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun and they made 2nd in the Premier league in 2008-‐09 season. The owners said ‘my heart is with Liverpool, so I’m delighted to sign this new deal, I love the club, the fans and the city and with a club and supporters like these’. However, with start of 2009, the relationship between the two owners and Benitez started to crack down. They sold the two key players Mascherono and Alonso regardless of Benitez’s opinion and they didn’t invest money to replace those players. Consequently, they failed to Liverpool’s failure = Torres slump/ injury = Blame on Benitez be one of the 16 teams in the Champions League and failed to win the Europa league as well. The worse was they came 7th in England in 2009-‐10 season. They once again failed to join the Champions league, which could have brought huge amount of money to Liverpool. The club, the Kops sacked him in June 2010. It was a right thing to do after he made 7th in the league. It is known that he got 6 million pound from Liverpool as compensation. Few days later, Internazionale contracted with Rafael Benitez to become a new manager, as Jose Mourinho moved to Real Madrid. It was a tough challenge because 28

Dulwich Exclusive Interview with Mr. O’Shea 1. Do you think Benitez was a hero? Rafael Benitez came to Liverpool under the banner of being one of Europe’s `inest managers. He had worked wonders at Valencia, and who can forget his triumph in the Champions League against AC Milan in 2005, possibly the greatest `inal ever. He is a Liverpool hero, but played pretty boring football, not the Liverpool way. 2. What do you think is the major factor that is causing Liverpool’s failure? Many factors, from poor choice of manager to selling the club to almost going into administration due to the previous owners buying into the club for `inancial reasons. Now Liverpool are on the bay back, watch out the rest of the Premiership. This league without a strong Liverpool is a mediocre one. English football, and world football needs to carry on the traditions it inspired other teams to follow. 3. Do you think Liverpool can win the Premier league again within 5 years? Yes, most de`initely. I would say within three years. 4. As a Liverpool fan, who do you think is the best player? And why? Liverpool has had many outstanding players. Going back to Phil Thompson, Phil Neal, Alan Hansen, Ian Rush, Kevin Keegan and of course the greatest player to have ever worn the red shirt, Kenny Dalglish. The clubs history is steeped in some of the `inest players the world has ever seen. 5. If you can bring one player to Liverpool, who do you want to bring? There is only one, Lionel Messi. What an amazing player, 42 goals already this season, unbelievable. 6. Who do you think should be released from the team?
business. We bought two great strikers for that sum, and who knows, Andy Carroll could prove to be a bargain! 8. Do you think Liverpool can improve, if Mansour, owner of Manchester City, owns the team? Liverpool will never improve until the old philosophy is restored, and that is what King Kenny is all about. Living and breathing the tradition in harmony with the fans is what this great club is what will bring success, not money alone. 9. When did you start to support Liverpool FC? I started supporting Liverpool when I was about 6 years old. My `irst ‘real’ pair of football boots had Kenny Dalglish’s name written on the sides, I worshipped him, he was my Messi. 10. Why do you support Liverpool? There is a great link between Ireland and the city of Liverpool, indeed the Catholic Cathedral there is known as ‘Paddies Wigwam’. Liverpool always crafted a team around the best players from all the home nations, and some great Irish players were among their most prized assets. 11. What do you think of Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish? He was a great player and an outstanding manager. In his `irst season as player manager (you do not see that anymore) in 1986 he won the double, scoring the winner in the `inal league match of the season against……….Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. You young folk will wonder what is a ‘player manager’? Look it up, do you think it is possible to do that today? He will bring stability, unity and passion back to the club I hold dear. 12. Do you support any other football clubs? No. Why would you support any other club when you already support the best team in the world?
Where do you start? To players that annoy me the most are Glen Johnson and Maxi Rodriguez. How dare they pull on the red shirt! 7. What do you think about the winter English premier league transfer market? The market this winter was a little rushed and strange. However, for Liverpool to get 50 million for Torres is great

Mourinho was selected as the best coach of 2010, who led Inter Milan to be the Champions of UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, the Italian Serie A and the Italian cup. He got 35.92% of the votes beating Spanish national coach Vicente del Bosque (33.08%) and Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola (8.45%). Jose Mourinho is currently coaching Real Madrid.
Iker Casillas (Spain) in goal; Maicon (Brazil), Lúcio (Brazil), Gerard Piqué (Spain) and Carles Puyol 30 (Spain) in defence; Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands), Xavi (Spain) and Andrés Iniesta (Spain) in mid`ield; and Lionel Messi (Argentina), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) and David Villa (Spain) up front.
What is happening to Bundesliga? Why is the table all bizarre? Why did Bayern Munich and Schalke start off so badly? What is causing Stuttgart and Werder Bremen to lose most their games but Mainz and Freiburg and Hannover to play so well? Currently, Bayern Munich is 5 th . However, during the season, it went down the table to 11th. Bayern Munich showed its weakness in away matches. Out of 10 matches it only won 3 games. With Ribery and Robben both injured, Bayern didn t have any players to score goals. Muller, just after the World Cup, wasn t satisfying everyone s expectations. Bayern quickly recovered with the discovery of Gomez s talent. Gomez was the goal-getter for the team. He saved the team by scoring 16 goals so far this season. Finishing the 2009-2010 season just behind Bayern Munich, Schalke 04 was expected to have another great season. The expectations of the fans got higher when Schalke bought Raul and Huntelaar. However, from the start of the season till now, it has never gone above 10th. Schalke was even last (18 th ) during one matchday. Currently, its only hope is Raul. Raul has 10 goals so far this season. Another set of unexpected results was Werder Bremen s continuous losses. Werder Bremen simply depended too much on Ozil, who transferred to Real Madrid after the World Cup. Also it had to play in the Championsleague, which made it harder to play well in the league. Hugo Almeida was the one that pulled the team out of relegation and now up to

11th. Pizarro and Marin assisting Almeida are also getting better throughout the season. Werder Bremen, although might not get their 3rd place back and have another season playing in the UEFA Championsleague, may get better and play in the Europaleague next season. Stuttgart also is having a horrible season. It finished 2009-2010 season off being 6th. The team has no goalgetters nor does it have any decent defenders. It was surprising it got to 6th last season. It seems to have no hope to recover this season: it would be lucky if it doesn t get relegated. In contrast, Mainz is having an amazing season. Staying at top of the table for the first few matchdays, it only fell to 3rd (current Bundesliga table). Its goalgetter Andre Schurrle has already 10 goals and Holtby is also another valuable player. Mainz, if they get lucky, might even qualify for the UEFA Championsleague next season. Similarly, Freiburg is having a brilliant season. Cisse, the most valuable player on the team, has 15 goals (just behind Gomez s 16 goals). Freiburg is currently 6th (was 14th last season). Another astonishing set of results is Hannover s continuous victory. Didier Ya Konan of Hannover has 10 goals and 4 assists. He is undoubtedly one of the best players on the team. The unexpected good and bad performances played by Mainz, Freiburg, Hannover and Werder Bremen, Stuttgart, Bayern Munich, Schalke respectively is making Bundesliga s table unpredictable and exciting.
