MERCADO (MARKET) the intention of this revitilization project was to establish a new market environment. to create conditions that altered the residents' of El Parrals concept of a neighborhood market. allow the market to emege as an attraction. allow the market to become an experience. a place that allowed its users to inhabit. a market that allowed one to move through it, in it, above + below it. ultimately the goal was to create a new marketplace while maintaining the importance that these residents are the "owners". allowing them to control the market for their communities benefit. enabaling these “owners to infuse their style + culture into newly established boundaries. in order to do that, the most important aspects of the market had to be considered. that being the most singular unit, the solitary merchant + their goods. without that integral piece we have nothing. the project evolved into exploiting that singular important need + emphasized the importance of those merchants. now the merchants define the space, define the density, determine the permanence.

somatic space human skin. composed through a layering of cells identical yet varying based upon interconnectedness to larger cellular structures. human skin becomes responsive to the external environment. constant changes + variations. flexibility. acts as regulator of temperature, sensation, responsiveness to itself + its surroundings. somatic space. derived from a singular manufactured unit [cell]. somatic cells relate to the walls of the human body. interconnected within the human nervous system, regulates voluntary movements. created through differentiation. the process by which a less specialized cell becomes a more reactive specialized cell structure. this singular cell allows for endless variations. regulated yet boundless by its design this single manufactured unit allows a single person to begin to shape space. a responsive space. manipulation. a malleable cell structure is created from a singular unit. the weight of the structure plays the role of defining its boundary. its layering allows for variation of space to be created. the user can create a hard enclosing boundary or a boundary less defined. can allow sight, sound and the potential for human interaction on opposing sides of the structure. a single solitary somatic cell becomes a space defining component.
