Bailey’s Ice Cream
July is National Ice Cream Month so why not try this deliciously creamy and very grown-up version Serves 6-8 Preparation time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 30 minutes Chilling time: Over night + freezing time (30mins- 3 hours depending on method used)
Ingredients
480ml whole milk 4 large egg yolks 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Method Pour the milk into a medium size, heavy bottomed saucepan. Add 100g of the sugar. Place over medium heat, stirring continuously, until the mixture registers 77C on a cooking thermometer. If you don’t have a thermometer the milk should be just bearable to dip your finger into…be careful! In a crock or stainless steel medium-size bowl, whisk together the 4 egg yolks and remaining 50g of sugar until foamy and slightly thick. Very slowly add half of the hot milk to the eggs, whisking continuously. Pour this egg mixture back into the sauce pan with the remaining hot milk and return to the stove top on a low-medium heat. Stir continuously with a wooden spoon or heatproof rubber spatula until the mixture reaches 85C on the thermometer or if you have no thermometer is thick enough to coat the back of the spoon or spatula. Take care to make sure the mixture does not boil. Remove from the heat. If it’s not completely smooth whisk it well before proceeding.
10
150g granulated sugar 240ml double cream 4 tbsp Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur
Pour the double cream into a clean, large stainless-steel or glass mixing bowl set over an ice bath. Pour the heated custard mixture through a fine mesh sieve or strainer into the cold cream. Add the vanilla extract and stir until fully incorporated. Stir occasionally until the mixture has fully cooled. This should take about 1/2 hour. Remove the mixing bowl from the ice bath, dry off the bottom of the bowl if necessary, cover with plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours or overnight. Stir in the Baileys. Pour this chilled mixture into the ice-cream maker follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If you have no ice cream maker, don’t worry, you can still make ice cream though it will take a little longer. Pour the chilled mixture into a large container. Pop it in the fast-freeze section of your freezer. Check it after 45 minutes. It will have begun to crystallize around the edges. Use a hand whisk, wooden spoon or electric hand whisk to break the crystals up and incorporate them into the mixture, then refreeze. Keep checking and beating the mixture every 3040 minutes and within 3 hours you will have ice cream.

The Nottinghamshire based company is a wellestablished family run business that has many satisfied customers. The key thing is that we don’t try to force a product onto a customer. We always deal with each customer as an individual with individual requirements to suit both their needs and there financial budget. We show empathy and understanding on all levels. AHM Installations offers a full range of
bathroom services, whether installing a step - free shower, having a bath taken out, a shower put in or the establishment of a complete new wet room. Along with the installation, the company is able to provide the following: Grab rails (white or chrome): safety flooring in a range of colours: tile panel or multi panel boarding (an alternative to tiles and grout: drop down seats: towel warmers (white and chrome). We have built up a relationship with suppliers, who offer us good discounts that we pass on to our customers so that we are able to offer installations £1500-£2000 cheaper than larger competitors. 3 Myths about cruising
ver thought about cruising? Concerned it is not for you? Then let me help. Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Nick Markham and I am an Independent Cruise Expert. About those “3 Myths”: TOO EXPENSIVE Cruises start off at as little as £180 for a taster cruise mini break usually lasting 2 nights. It is also important to remember that the cost of the cruise includes all your food and some soft drinks and teas/ coffee. ONLY OLD PEOPLE CRUISE Not true. Cruising is done by all ages.
14
Different ships will offer different experiences. Set sail on a Princess Ship and experience the ‘flo rider’, the climbing wall or ice skating rink.
NOTHING TO DO – BOREDOM; once again you need to choose the ship and itinerary that will suit you. Tell your cruise expert what you like and let them tailor make your ideal cruise. Think about what is important to you. Is
it the destinations you will visit, the ship itself or a bit of both? I hope you have found the above information helpful. For help with any further enquiries do not hesitate to contact me on Freephone 0808 180 0971, or email me at: nmarkham@ cruiseholidaysuk.co.uk, or check out my website; http://nickmarkham. cruiseholidaysuk.co.uk Next time I will discuss my time on board the launch party for the Norwegian Breakaway and discuss what this ship and many other Norwegian ships have to offer.

I don’t know how he does it. When it comes to packing for holidays it takes my husband four minutes flat. I look enviously at his little pile of shorts, T-shirts and underwear and wonder where I am going wrong, as I wrestle with zips and straps in a determined effort to squeeze everything in. Many of us do it - pack too much when we go on holiday - then end up wearing the same few items all week. So how can we make the job easier, quicker and (with ever stricter baggage allowances), cheaper? The answer is to remember that ‘less is more’ and to take only things we really love to wear in a capsule wardrobe that will cater for every occasion. The first step is to envisage how you see yourself spending your holiday. If it’s mainly sunbathing, all you need for the daytime is swimwear – a couple of bikinis per week plus a well cut swimsuit for genuine swimming or diving – flip flops and a loose fitting shirt to cover you up on the way to and from the beach or pool. If you plan on sightseeing or shopping, pack some comfortable sandals or pumps and a pair of shorts, cut off trousers or a skirt (neutral colours would be most versatile), and a

tote bag onto the plane and afterwards use it for the beach, or when you go shopping. Follow these tips and you shouldn’t go far wrong, but if you do, after your holiday write down all the items you ended up wearing (or that you wish you could have worn!) and use this as a guide next time you pack. Scarves make a good alternative and can also be used to wrap around and protect hair. A wide brimmed hat will shield your face and hair from the sun, and is also a great fashion accessory. Some fashion experts suggest you take as many dresses as you can fit in. Teamed up with jewellery, a clutch bag and heels they are great for evenings out, and are still suitable for daywear when worn with flatties and a tote bag. Remember to take at least one warm item for chilly evenings or windy locations. Don’t forget to pack a couple of pairs of sunglasses in different shapes to create a varied look. Finally, take an oversized

Sunny Accountancy
Karl Watts from Sunny Accountancy offers some sound advice for local business owners. 1. Review your books regularly. When you’re running your business, you may not take the time to sit down and look at your financials. But you can’t manage your money without having the facts. At least once a month, preferably once a week, look at your figures: accounts payable and receivable, expenses, cash flow, etc. 2. Send them your bill! I’m always surprised by how many businesspeople, especially consultants and professional service providers, delay sending out their invoices. You may feel uncomfortable asking someone for money, afraid of being challenged on how much you’ve billed, or just too busy working. But the longer you wait to send out your invoices, the greater the chance you won’t get paid. 3. Watch your inventory. If you produce goods, you’ll always be tempted to
produce more because you get savings based on volume. But inventory can go “bad,” become out-dated, unsaleable, time- or weather-worn. Inventory doesn’t just apply to finished goods for resale. You may have “inventory” in the form of marketing materials. Keep an eye on your actual use and make your purchases not only on the basis of price but whether you can get small quantities only when you actually need them. 4. Manage your growth. You want your business to get bigger, but if you grow too fast you may not be able to sustain it. Growth costs money; you incur many expenses before you see additional income. Plan your growth so you have the financial resources to pay for it. 5. Save. Every business has income fluctuations. The best way to have cash when you need it is to put some away when you’ve got it.

efore you head off in search of the sun this summer, make sure your car is prepared for the trip with these eight essential checks:
1. Make sure your car isn’t due for a service or MOT while you’re away. If there’s anything that doesn’t feel quite right, get it looked at well before your journey. 2. Just before you go, check the oil and coolant levels, and top up the screen wash 3. Measure your tyre pressures to ensure a smooth and fuel-efficient ride. If you are carrying a heavy load, the tyres may need to be at a higher pressure. 4. Examine your wiper blades and replace them if they are cracked or worn.
INTEGAL
You can clean them with a cloth dipped in screen wash. 5. Check all the car’s exterior lights are working, including the fog lights. 6. Clean the windows and mirrors. 7. Take with you supplies of oil, water, antifreeze and screen wash, and a spare tyre. If you are travelling in Europe, you will also need headlamp beam adapters, an alcohol breathalyser, GB plate, spare bulbs, a warning triangle and reflective vests. 8. And finally, make sure you have details of your breakdown service and insurance handy, so if you do have a problem you can get it sorted out as quickly as possible.

Do the unpleasant sensations disappear or reduce when you’re walking or stretching? Does the problem get worse or only occur in the evening or at night? If you answered yes to all four questions you may be suffering from restless legs syndrome (RLS), also known as Ekbom syndrome after the professor who first named it. RLS is a disorder in which the brain incorrectly combines and interprets sensing and movement. The sufferer feels an irresistible urge to move their legs, (and sometimes other limbs) in response to the perceived discomfort. RLS can interfere with sleep, making sufferers drowsy and irritable the next day. It can cause problems at work if the sufferer is required to
spend long periods sitting at a desk, and in the worst cases it can result in job loss and relationship problems.
RLS is a common condition. Up to 10% of people are believed to suffer with it, yet many health professionals don’t really understand what it is and how to treat it. It is now believed to be caused by an imbalance of dopamine, a chemical that transmits signals between nerve cells in the brain. It is likely to be genetic because about 60% of people with restless legs also have a family member with the condition. Anyone can suffer with RLS, but it is more common in older adults and women. In fact, about 40% of pregnant women report the symptoms to some degree. Health conditions such as diabetes, iron deficiency, rheumatoid arthritis, and kidney failure can also trigger restless legs syndrome. The severity of RLS varies between individuals. Most cases are mild and can be
alleviated by: Walking or stretching Taking a warm or cool bath
Relaxation exercises Distraction...having a conversation or playing a game Massage For more severe cases medication may be helpful, particularly iron tablets in the presence of anaemia, or sometimes dopaminergic drugs similar to those used in Parkinson’s disease. Certainly, you don’t have to suffer in silence. If you think you might have RLS talk to your GP and visit the support site www.ekbom.org.uk

The Perfect Brow
yebrows are essentially there to protect the eyes from sweat, dust and sunlight and originally were a lot larger in size. Today they serve more of an aesthethic purpose; they are essential to frame the face and can change the appearance of facial features.
By changing the eyebrows we can alter the frame of the face and make the face appear a different shape. Shape and size Round brows make the face look rounder and close set brows make the nose look longer, wide set brows make the nose look wider and thin brows make the face look fatter. Higher arches make the face look longer and flat brows make the face look shorter. By moving or changing a brow shape we can make the face appear longer/ shorter and wider or narrower.
Perfect proportion Basically the ideal face shape is thought to be an oval face (well balanced and softly rounded; the forehead is slightly wider than the jaw, which curves gently, and the cheekbones are high) as it tends to suit many styles of brow. However one rule to follow is never create oval shaped brows on an oval shaped face. The current fashion is to have really quite defined brows that are also defined in colour. Eyebrow tinting or a semi-permanent brow powder are both excellent to create definition, especially when applied with a stencil. Jenny Dunville
