Enjoy championship golf courses and some of Australia’s best wines The Hunter Valley is renowned as one of Australia’s leading wine regions, and internationally as a premium producer of Semillon and Shiraz Wines. But the region is also fast developing a reputation as one of Australia’s premier Golf destinations. Located only 2-hour’s drive north from Sydney, the Hunter Valley region offers several premier 18-hole golf courses, including The Vintage Golf Club, Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club, and the newly redesigned Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club, all located within the heart of the Hunter Valley and surrounded by the picturesque views of the regions vineyards. For interstate visitors, access to the Hunter Valley is easiest via Newcastle Airport. Direct flights operate from most interstate capitals and serviced by both Jetstar and Virgin Blue. On arrival, you can collect your hire car and it’s then just a short 1 hour’s drive from Newcastle Airport to the Hunter Valley where your next golfing adventure awaits you. On a recent visit to the Hunter Valley we took this route, choosing to fly direct from Melbourne to Newcastle Airport and collecting our hire car on arrival. The trip was convenient and hassle-free, and we even took in the sights of Newcastle’s famous coastline and surf beaches, stopping for lunch before heading over to the Hunter Valley, and combining the pleasures of the coast and country. There is an abundance of accommodation options in the Hunter Valley region. From hotel suites at the new 4.5 Star Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, to the manor-style and old world charm of the Sebel Kirkton Park or enjoy the luxurious resort villas at Cypress Lakes Resort and the new Grand Mercure Apartments at 4

The Vintage. All offer distinctly different accommodation styles, suitable for couples, families and all types of group golfing trips. The Hunter Valley is the perfect golf and leisure destination offering not only championship golf courses, but an array of leisure activities for non-golfing partners too including wine touring, hot air ballooning, day spas, gourmet food trails and more. In fact, the region has over 120 cellar doors and some 70 restaurants and cafes for you to sample the local wines and produce – so the secret is out and why so many more visitors are now discovering this unique region.

The Vintage Golf Club Like a good red … it’s getting better with age When The Vintage Golf Club was opened by course designer Greg Norman in January 2003, it had already been described as the best new course in New South Wales – but like any good red it is getting better with age. Over the past two years, The Vintage has continued to grow its reputation as one of the finest golfing facilities in Australia. The Vintage now rests comfortably in the top 50 courses in the country and has been named as the number one public access course in New South Wales. The other great asset of the course is its location. Positioned in the heart of the world-renowned Hunter Valley wine region, The Vintage is surrounded by spectacular vineyards, trickling creeks and undisturbed wetlands. The stunning Greg Norman-design compliments the picturesque surroundings and Hunter Valley lifestyle to produce a distinctive golfing experience. Visitors to the magnificent 18-hole par 71 championship golf course can also take advantage of the Club’s world-class service standards.

With all the delights of Hunter Valley Wine Country waiting for you, what are you waiting for?

The Vintage’s world-class clubhouse includes a members’ lounge, spike bar, restaurant, function room and fully stocked Golf Shop. The restaurant at The Vintage is fast becoming renowned as one of the most popular dining venues for visitors to the Hunter Valley, offering modern cuisine and an extensive wine list. The restaurant was awarded the prestigious Restaurant of the Year title in 2004 for the Hunter Region. As part of a 482-lot residential master-planned community, the golf course and its clubhouse act as a social hub for local residents. A new Vintage partnership between John Stevens and Don and Nancy Panoz of the well renowned Chateau Elan Resorts and Spas was announced this year. This combination of expertise brings to The Vintage exciting new developments and a continued drive for excellence and quality. Like a good red wine, we can’t wait to see this vintage mature even more!

Feature Hole - 3rd Hole (Par 4) – 398m “Ranked as the hardest hole on the golf course this is a great medium length par 4 which requires the ultimate in course management if a score of par is to be recorded. Players need to thread the needle off the tee shot between a group of bunkers and wasteland areas. The golfer is then left with a mid iron to an uphill heavilly undulating putting surface. When in doubt with the second shot, bail out to the right. Making a 5 on this hole is no disgrace.” JOHN HAIR, DRUMMOND GOLF NEWCASTLE. Drummond Club Member Offer: 2 FOR 1 GREEN FEE VOUCHER, Valid mid-week. Advance Reservsations required.

Grand Mercure Apartments On-site accommodation is now available at the new “Grand Mercure Apartments” – only 2 minutes walk to the Vintage

clubhouse. This new complex offers 16 one bedroom and 28 two bedroom contemporary style apartments, designed to compliment the area’s natural bush environment. The apartments offer generous lounge and dining areas, fully self-contained with BBQ waiting on your outdoor terrace – the perfect place to enjoy a late afternoon BBQ after a round at The Vintage. Guests can also enjoy all Club facilities at The Vintage including tennis courts, health and fitness centre, heated swimming pool and of course the spectacular Vintage Golf Course. Drummond Club Member Offer: STAY ‘N PLAY PACKAGE – See page 3 for further details.

Sebel Kirkton Park Located only 5 minutes drive from The Vintage is the Sebel Kirkton Park – a unique country retreat set on 75 acres in the heart of the Hunter Valley at the foothills of the Brokenback Ranges. This delightful manor-style Hotel offers 72 guestrooms and suites with stunning views overlooking the surrounding Pokolbin countryside. Many of the rooms feature period furnishings, open fireplaces and either French provincial or heritage style décor. The Hotel’s facilities include indoor swimming pool, spa and gym, tennis courts, BBQ area, billiard room, bar, and the Hotel’s own awardwining “Infuzion Restaurant” which serves contemporary styled Australian cuisine and an extensive choice of Hunter Valley wines. The Sebel Kirkton Park offers a relaxed atmosphere of a bygone era and is the perfect base from which to explore the Hunter Valley region. HUNTER VALLEY GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

CYPRESS LAKES GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

A course for golfers of all levels and abilities

Rated as one of Australia’s Top Resort Golf Courses

The Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club is situated at the gateway of the Hunter Valley and located directly opposite the region’s local Tourist Information Centre and regional airport.

Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club features one of Australia’s highest rating championship golf courses and is now the proud home of the Jack Newton Celebrity Classic. This 18 hole, par 72 course, features water crossings and over 70 huge bunkers with dramatically shaped, elevated greens. Every tee and green has a stunning panoramic view of the valley’s famous vineyards and the Brokenback Ranges. With the front nine encouraging players to hit their driver off the tee, the back nine requires more precise shot-making and accuracy. Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club is a challenging golf course but suitable for golfers of all levels, and with accommodation available on-site, this golf course and resort is a popular choice.

Formerly know as Portofino Golf Club, this 18-hole resort style golf course recently under went extensive course renovation in conjunction with the opening of the new 4.5 Star Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley last year and was renamed the Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club. Designed by Richard Mercer, this 5775 metre (Par 70) golf course offers a challenging experience for golfers of all levels and is in excellent condition since the recent refurbishment. The Club also recently signed Golf Professional Kristy Newton (daughter of the well known Australian Golf legend Jack Newton) as Official Ambassador for the Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club. The Club is planning a series of special events and coaching clinics this year in cooperation with Kristy, including a weekend stay and play coaching program specifically designed for women – including optional ½ day wine tours to the local vineyards and massage and spa therapies – just perfect for a girl’s weekend away!

Feature Hole – 4th Hole (Par 3) - 167m “Water carry from the tee to the green to a highly undulating putting surface. Down wind the shot can be struck with a mid to short iron. Into the wind this hole shows its teeth. “The front nine has a lot of beautiful holes which are a little shorter in length than the back nine, but well placed water hazards and bunkers counter act this” explained the new HVGC Head Professional Adam Bilbe. JOHN HAIR, DRUMMOND GOLF NEWCASTLE.

Drummond Club Member Offer: NEW “2 FOR 1” GREEN FEE. Valid 7 days, show your Drummond Club Membership Card.

Crowne Plaza HUNTER VALLEY Located on-site is the newly opened 4.5 Star Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, offering 150 deluxe king or twin hotel rooms with 12 suites and an additional 72 two bedroom self-contained villas – just a short walk to the Golf Course. The Villas are spacious with 2 bathrooms and large lounge and dining/kitchen areas, perfect for group golf trips. The Hotel’s other recreational facilities include outdoor heated pool, tennis courts, basketball court and several bar and restaurant areas.

POTTERS HOTEL & BREWERY For something a little different plan a visit to the award-wining Potters Hotel & Brewery after your golf round and sample a range of boutique beers at the Hunter’s first microbrewery. Accommodation is also available on-site including a choice of Hotel, villa and spa suites. Resort facilities include swimming pools, day/night tennis, kids playground and day spa. Contact the Drummond Club for information on special midweek packages available exclusively to members.

Feature Hole – 17th Hole (Par 4) – 337m “This is a dual fairwayed short par 4 giving the golfer many options for the tee shot. The longest of hitters can challenge the green with their drive. However caution is required as water and bunkers protect the narrowest green on the course. Precise course management may result in a birdie 3.” JOHN HAIR, DRUMMOND GOLF NEWCASTLE. Drummond Club Member Offer: NEW “2 FOR 1” GREEN FEE.Valid Mon – Thurs, show your Drummond Club Membership Card.

Cypress Lakes Resort “Best Luxury Accommodation” award – 2004 Hunter Region Awards for excellence in Tourism. “Best Regional Property” award – 2004 Australian Hotels Association NSW. THE HUNTER VALLEY

Kelman Vineyards

Life’s Other Pleasures!

Situated in the heart of the Hunter Valley, Kelman Vineyards is a unique community owned and operated vineyard – the only community style vineyard of it’s kind in Australia. Situated on 22 acres, this boutique winery produces wines for the residential community owners and also limited releases through the vineyards cellar door and Kelman Wine Club. Kelman’s range of award winning wines includes Shiraz, Rosé, Semillon and Chardonnay. Every Kelman wine made between 2000–2005 has been awarded a trophy, Gold, Silver or Bronze medal at wine shows all over Australia, which is something no other boutique winery in Australia is likely to be able to claim. A visit to Kelman Vineyards will also delight all your culinary pleasures with a range of tasty gourmet products including plump olives, delicious extra virgin & infused olive oils, gourmet vinegars, and much more. All food products are sourced from the Vineyard’s own olive and citrus grove, and are the perfect accompaniment with a glass of Kelman’s award winning wines. Of particular note is Kelman’s “Chairman’s Reserve 2005 Semillon” which has been highly reviewed by James Halliday & Huon Hooke 92/100 (wine companion), 93/100 (Good Living, Sydney Morning Herald, 20th Feb 07) respectively.

Visit over 120 cellar doors and 70 restaurants and cafes and sample some of Australia’s finest wines and gourmet foods The Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest grape growing and wine producing region, located just two hours drive north of Sydney. With the first grapes planted in the mid 1800’s, the Hunter has always had a close association with wine. Indeed around Australia and the world, the Hunter name evokes images of rolling vineyards, and wines that hold their own in any world class field. With over 120 cellar doors to explore, you will find a diverse range of wines including such wellknown brands as Lindemans, Tyrrells, McWilliam’s Mt Pleasant and Wydnham Estate, plus many small to medium sized boutique wineries offering award-wining wines such as Kelman Vineyards and the historical Audrey Wilkinson winery with panoramic views over the Hunter Valley plains.

McWilliam’s Mount Pleasant Estate If you’re looking for quality wines to cellar and enjoy for many years to come, then Mount Pleasant Winery is a must on your next Hunter Valley wine tour. Established in 1921 by legendary wine-maker, the late Maurice O’Shea, The O’Shea family purchased the Old Hill Vineyard (planted by Charles King in the 1880’s) and established the Mount Pleasant Winery. O’Shea (1897–1956) recognised the special characteristics and longevity of Hunter Valley table wines – particularly Semillon and Shiraz – and is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures in the modern Australian wine industry. When the McWilliam Family acquired ownership of Mount Pleasant in 1941, O’Shea was retained as Chief Winemaker and went on to make some of Australia’s most prominent Wines. O’Shea’s ground breaking work has been kept alive by revered winemakers Brian Walsh (1956-1978) and Phillip Ryan (1978-current). The fact that there have been just three Chief Winemakers at Mount Pleasant since 1921 has ensured consistency of wine style and quality. At the 2007 Royal Sydney Wine Show earlier this year, McWilliams Wines claimed a total of 15 gold medals across their wine portfolio and also won the “Most Successful Exhibitor Trophy” for an unprecedented 13th consecutive year! McWilliam’s’ full range of red, white and fortified wines, as well as limitedrelease cellar door only wines, are available for tasting at Mount Pleasant Estate. The Estate comprises a cellar door, 140-seat function room, gift shop and Elizabeth’s Café. Drummond Club Member Offer: 20% off single bottle prices at Mount Pleasant Cellar Door and 10% off total bill at Elizabeth’s Café.

Drummond Club Member Offer:10% off wine, olives, oils and other merchandise. Plus additional 5% off all purchases of 12 bottles or more.

Audrey Wilkinson Vineyard A breath-taking view of the Hunter Valley and surrounding plains, spanning almost 360º, is just one of the first pleasures you can enjoy at the historic Audrey Wilkinson Vineyard. The history of the pioneering Wilkinson Family dates back to 1866 when they first settled in the Hunter Valley region. Frederick Wilkinson (Audrey’s Father) and brother’s John and Charles Wilkinson roamed the Pokolbin Hills in search of the region’s richest soils and planted Pokolbin’s first vines – the result was the birth of a winemaking industry in the region. You can see images of this fascinating history and the Family’s pioneering days on-site at the Vineyard’s museum collection. Today, the Audrey Wilkinson Vineyard is under the leadership of the Agnew Family, and spans over 266 acres with 38 hectares under vines and producing over 15,000 cases per year. Recent awards, two Gold at Sydney 2007 • 2006 Museum Reserve Semillon Audrey Wilkinson (Top Gold in class 53) • 2001 Reserve Semillon Audrey Wilkinson (Gold in class 18). Drummond Club Member Offer: Save 15% discount at cellar door on a case deal.

The higher Moment of Inertia helps to reduce club head twisting resulting in a straighter, longer ball flight and an all round more forgiving golf club.

See in-store for custom fitting options and special member pricing.

TaylorMade r7 SuperQuad Driver

Not only is Burner extraordinarily fast and long, it’s also incredibly forgiving on miss-hits. Its size, shape and strategic weighting create an extremely high Moment of Inertia (MOI) that makes the clubhead extremely stable and resistant to twisting when impact is made toward the toe, toward the heel, or high or low on the face. That reduces ball-speed loss, which reduces distance loss.

The r7 SuperQuad combines the power and forgiveness of a 460cc clubhead – the maximum size allowed by the USGA / R&A – with the ability to promote changes to the launch angle, spin-rate and trajectory. For players who demand the freedom to choose specific sets of launch conditions in their pursuit of greater distance, the SuperQuad is the longest driver with Movable Weight Technology that we’ve ever created. It’s also one of the most striking in appearance. Engineered for players who prefer to assess and calculate before launching the ball, who enjoy tweaking their equipment in attempts to optimise their equipment and make the absolute most out of their physical abilities. SuperQuad players like options.

Cleveland Hi Bore Irons

Cleveland’s most forgiving iron to date, the easy to hit HiBORE Irons offer mid to high handicap players a true hybrid iron set. Full Hollow construction allows for a 28% larger effective hitting area to provide extremely forgiving and easy to hit irons. HiBORE Irons feature an oversized cup-face structure. Because the clubface and hosel are cast as one piece, there are no welding spots, therefore expanding the sweet spot to the size of the entire clubface.

bonus hybrid MEMBER offer Silver Cat NXS Series Cougar’s new revolution in iron design is the Silver Cat NXS which follows in the footsteps of Cougar’s greatest selling model the Silver Cat 3. With Cougar’s exclusive Vibration Management System comprising four stainless steel pins sealed inside two polymer filled cavities, club vibration is substantially reduced which dramatically improves feel and promotes more efficient energy transfer at impact.

Purchase any 8-piece set irons from $599 & receive a Bonus Silver Cat NXS Hybrid valued at $124.95

$5.72/ week*

* Flexiway weekly price is based on 36 month agreement, payable monthly includes GST. Subject to credit approval. Conditions apply.

M2 Series

M2 irons feature a Composite Cavity design which absorbs vibration at impact and reduces jarring caused by miss-hits. The M2 wide sole design helps to reduce digging at impact that can cause fat shots, the extra weight in the sole also helps force the club head through any lie you may find yourself in. These features combined with a mid top rail and a extra deep cavity produce a very low CG (centre of gravity). This combination produces a high, long ball flight, providing golfers of all levels with more confidence and accuracy than ever before.

Purchase any 8-piece set irons from $519 & receive a Bonus M2 Series Hybrid valued at $99.95

$4.96/ week*

T3 Series

T3’s large oversize iron heads have been designed with slightly thicker top rail and wider sole than its predecessors, the Turbo 1 and 2. The wider sole helps the club glide over the turf reducing digging and heavy shots. It also allows a lower centre of gravity producing a higher and longer ball flight. A 25-gram stabilising weight pad has been positioned directly behind the striking zone of the clubface producing a huge sweet spot and an incredibly forgiving golf club.

Purchase any 8-piece set irons from $439 & receive a Bonus T3 Series Hybrid valued at $99.95

X Series

Cougar’s X Series model is a two piece oversize cavity design iron cast from 4.31 stainless steel which provides superior feel, control and playability. The combination of a thick top rail and a heavy weighted sole design drastically increases the sweet spot by increasing the overall perimeter weighting. The heavily weighted sole also produces an extremely low centre of gravity helping to create superior ball flight and greater distance.

Purchase any 8-piece set irons from $407 & receive a Bonus X Series Hybrid valued at $89.95

Zone 2

Zone 2 oversize irons are manufactured from 4.31 stainless steel and finished in a high polish. The irons have been engineered to increase the size of the zone on the clubface that delivers optimum ball speed at impact by utilising our new flow weight system that positions the weight to suit each iron head individually. Coupled with a new wider sole this will provide greater stability and longer, straighter ball flight.

Purchase any 8-piece set irons from $319 & receive a Bonus Zone 2 Hybrid valued at $54.95 Offers valid till 30 June 2007 or while stocks last. Some items may not be available at all stores. Amberley Estate Winery Margaret River, WA Amberley Estate is set amid a picturesque landscape of natural bushland, extensive vineyards and manicured gardens branding the property as one of the finest in the Margaret River Wine Region. First planted in 1986, Amberley was one of the first wineries to be established in the northern part of the Margaret River wine region. Here, the superb growing conditions produce grapes with elegant flavours, structure and balance. Every February the hugely popular Amberley Semillon and Seafood Weekend is held at the exquisite Amberley grounds. Barrel blending dinners can also be arranged at any time for groups of any size. A finalist at the prestigious Gold Plate Awards the restaurant is renowned for it’s wholesome menu featuring fresh local produce designed to compliment the wines from the Amberley range 7 days, 10 am to 4:30 pm ddress Corner Thornton & Wildwood Roads, Yallingup, 6282 A TEL: 08 9755 2288 FAX: 08 9755 2171 www.amberleyestate.com.au CELLAR DOOR: ADDRESS:

2006 Amberley Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc The 2006 Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc has a pale straw colour and brilliant clarity. The Aroma is a mix of freshly cut grass, gooseberries and lime citrus with a touch of passionfruit. The palate displays an abundance of lemon grass, gooseberry and lime flavours. Partial barrel fermentation of this wine provides extra depth and texture and leads to a well balanced finish with refreshing natural acidity. TASTING NOTES:

To call 2006 a cool vintage in Margaret River is an understatement. A very cool Spring, led to the coldest December on record. This was followed by the coolest summer for decades. As a result all wine grape varieties came in late, compared to previous years. Ironically, these challenging conditions effectively made Margaret River a cooler climate more suited to the production of cool-climate premium white varieties. Sauvignon Blanc in Margaret River started tasting like it had been grown a further 279 km south and 5043 km east. Watch out New Zealand. WINEMAKER’S NOTES:

EXCLUSIVE OFFER FOR DRUMMOND CLUB MEMBERS

TASTING NOTES: The 2004 Amberley Cabernet Merlot is deep red in colour with a brick-red hue. The aroma is a complex blend of raspberry jam, earthy plums and after-dinner mint chocolates. The luscious full-bodied palate shows ripe blackberry jam flavours supported by fine-grained tannins with a hint of vanillin toast on the finish.

2004 was an exceptional quality vintage for red varieties in Margaret River. WINEMAKER’S NOTES:

Weather conditions during the 2004 vintage period were ideal for the grapes in sugar and flavour ripening. March and April featured warm sunny days with cool nights. Consequently, winemakers were able to leave the fruit on the vine longer due to their excellent condition and increase in flavour intensity.

Sidehill Lie – Ball Above the Feet by Nadene Gole, Golf Professional European Tour Event Winner & 7 Events World Wide

TENDENCIES: Striking the ball heavy (fat), pulling or even hooking are the most common errors made when the ball is lying above your feet on a sidehill lie. WHY: The ball lies closer to you than normal. Striking the ball heavy is caused when you do not make the necessary adjustments with your body tilt and grip position at address. Without the necessary allowances the clubhead will strike the ground earlier in the downswing. Pulling and hooking the ball are a result of not adjusting to the altered lie angle or direction of the club face. Placing the clubhead flat to the ground on an uphill slope causes the loft of the club to face to the left of the target (for a right hander). With the ball higher than the feet there is also a tendency to swing inside the line promoting a right to left shot. Another factor that promotes a pull or hook is gravity which will pull you to the lowest point of the slope. On an uphill slope this is behind you and therefore tends to pull you backwards causing a swing path to the left.

SOLUTIONS 1. Grip down the club, shortening its length to clear the higher ground 2. Address the ball more towards the middle of your stance to minimise the weight transference and potential loss of balance

3. Aim to the right of the target to allow for the clubs loft facing left. The greater the angle of the slope, the further you should aim to the right 4. Set your weight on the balls of your feet 5. Make a smooth swing well within yourself maintaining balance and your swing path www.drummondclub.com

golf living/ & lifestyle

MORE THAN JUST GOLF COURSES!

For centuries golf courses have been recognised by communities as a wonderful retreat where avid golfers escape the worries of the world. Nowadays there is a trend towards extending that recreational visit to a semi permanent or permanent stay as golf course and property developers cater to the growing demand to construct holiday and residential premises in association with championship golf courses. For many, the natural surroundings, tranquillity, space and the general peace and quiet of golf course living provide an attractive lure to investors, retirees and growing families. In this feature we look at one of Australia’s leading golf lifestyle providers – Golf Club Properties Limited. Three highly acclaimed golf course facilities and brand new apartment style accommodation either just completed or in construction ensure both a wonderful golfing and lifestyle experience.

Golf Club Properties Limited The company’s philosophy primarily focuses on the golf experience and while apartments and hotels are integral to each development the guidelines are to restrict properties aligning the golf courses. At The Golf Club St Andrews Beach, the Private Member course has no direct overlooking housing on fairways ensuring a secluded and peaceful golfing journey. In addition GCPL brings a fresh approach to membership structures creating added value to attract member involvement. This includes transferable shares, no annual fee options and incentive schemes all designed to make being a member more rewarding. Managing all aspects of these developments, GCPL has an internal Architectural Design, Construction, Golf Operations and Course Maintenance team.

THE GOLF CLUB BASS COAST The Golf Experience How many courses can claim an ocean view from every hole? The Golf Club Bass Coast may well be the only one. Set along the rugged cliff tops of San Remo in Victoria, this spectacular golf course will provide an experience for all golfers rarely seen anywhere in the world. Graham Marsh has designed this magnificent links layout to deliver a challenging yet enjoyable test to golfers of all abilities. Each hole enjoys water views with wide open fairways that accommodate the prevailing winds that can sweep the course. Marsh has been quoted saying that the course “will represent the ultimate golf challenge in a stunningly beautiful setting... It will be the most talked about 18 holes in the country”.

The Region The entire region is surrounded by water including Western Port Bay and the famously tame but sometimes wild Bass Strait. The small township of San Remo was originally a quaint fishing village dating back to the mid 1800’s and was named after a small Italian coastal town. Just over the Phillip Island bridge are the very well known fairy penguins that visit their nesting area in a remarkable nightly parade. And then there are many other opportunities to see local colonies of seals or explore the many koala and nature parks. Fishing, surfing, water skiing, bike riding, galleries and markets are just some of the many other attractions the region has to offer.

The Opportunity This is the only cliff top property in San Remo providing million dollar ocean views without the price tag and opportunities are now available for you to claim your stake in a truly unique lifestyle decision. Selling now, apartments will enjoy unimpeded views of Bass Strait to Cape Woolamai, Western Port Bay and the undulating fairways of the golf course. Stage 1 is complete so you can see for yourself the stunning views you can escape to on weekends. Or, consider the excellent resort rental investment apartments offering a 6% net return and 2 weeks free use every year. The 18 hole course being constructed is in such an amazing location within one of Victoria’s prime coastal destinations, it will be a dream come true not just for golfers but the whole family.

THE GOLF CLUB ST ANDREWS BEACH The Golf Experience The name says it all, St Andrews Beach – could there be a more appropriate place to build a golf course? This wonderful coastal, sand dune land, situated on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria’s premier golf region was ideal territory for a links style course. Renowned USA golf architect, Tom Doak has a minimalist approach to design and has blended 36 holes into the environment with little earthworks to create one of Australia’s most natural and picturesque courses. The Private Member Gunnamatta Course features a rich mixture of elevated tees, wide fairways and hidden greens designed for regular play by members at all levels. Anyone who plays the course comments on the quality of the playing conditions and the fun they had taking on Doak’s design. Tom Doak is in strong demand in golf architecture at the moment, with his courses ranked amongst the world’s best. The Gunnamatta Course debuted as the #9 Best Course in Australia, and the soon to be built Fingal Course is expected to rank close behind. The Golf Club St Andrews Beach will be the home of the only mainland Australian Doak courses.

The Region The Mornington Peninsula has been a favourite destination for Melbournians even before roads were built and the only way to arrive was by paddle steamer. Wine, beaches, dolphin swims, horse riding, restaurants, not to mention some of Australia’s best golf courses have flourished over the years making the area ideal for everyone from day trippers to those who can spend weeks lapping up the many opportunities to unwind and explore.

The Opportunity Ever felt like waking up knowing that just a short stroll away you will be hitting off one of Australia’s best courses? A limited number of stunning two level apartments with golf course frontage have just been completed and are now selling. Nestled amongst quiet, natural bushland pockets near the courses, the stage 2 Moonah and Tea Tree apartments offer excellent investment and golf membership opportunities. Buy for yourself, use as a weekender or secure an investment apartment that the resort will use as rental accommodation. These deliver owners with a guaranteed 6% leaseback for 5 years, 2 weeks free use of the apartment every year and lifetime membership options. With over 4 million people visiting the region annually and with many golfers amongst them, demand for rental apartments featuring hotel and resort facilities is expected to be very solid. Private Membership features NO annual fees.

THE GOLF CLUB KENNEDY BAY The Golf Experience So why has Kennedy Bay ranked as the best course is WA for close to ten years? Why not decide for yourself and see why it is Australia’s #12 Best Course and the #2 Public Access Course in the country. The unique pot revetted bunkers will surprise you especially when you are surrounded by them on the green or trying to hit out of one. The wind of the renowned Fremantle Doctor will be another challenge to your game, a time when you have to call on the skills of the true links player with your irons, the aim being to keep the ball low. Obviously morning tee offs will give you an opportunity to play before the wind but those afternoons will never disappoint especially as the sun is going down with the landscape often resembling that of the moon. Designers Ian Baker Finch, Roger MacKay and Michael Coate were surely not holding back with any design principals and ideas. Using every feature of the land and creating something that could not be compared with anything else in Australia. Kennedy Bay is sure to excite. Defy Roger’s Best (8th Hole) but do not let Temptation (7th Hole) get the better of you.

The Region The Peel region spreading from Perth inland and down the south coast of WA offers visitors a vast array of opportunities from swimming with the dolphins, surfing at one of the many beaches or heading inland to explore the forests and river systems. Of course there are wineries, restaurants and plenty of places to just simply relax. Development in this region has doubled in recent years and future plans for the area just seem to keep coming.

The Opportunity Kennedy Bay is situated on the coast amongst what is set to become one of the biggest tourism infrastructure developments to take place in WA over the last ten years. You now have the opportunity to live and holiday on WA’s best golf course whilst enjoying the close by hotel, beaches, launching ramps and fishing spots. Limited opportunities are available and land is selling fast. A newly structured membership has also recently been released that is well worth the enquiry. Pilates for Golf

by David Grech, Pilates Instructor, Golf Pilates Trainer Dip H Sc. Medical Massage

The average golfer is entirely capable of building a repeating swing and breaking 80, if he learns to perform a small number of correct movements and conversely it follows eliminating lots of movements which tend to keep the swing from repeating” (Ben Hogan five lessons The modern fundamentals of golf- Ben Hogan & Herbert Warren Wind) The Pilates Method is a complete body conditioning and postural alignment exercise program, with a primary focus on strengthening the abdominals and core muscles surrounding the spine. Pilates is suitable for all ages and levels of golfers as it is low impact and fantastic for rehabilitation purposes. It reduces muscular and joint pain, increases strength and flexibility and improves your balance and overall fitness. Pilates works to find a person’s most efficient and comfortable movement patterns, and then develop, stabilise, stretch and strengthen them. In the simplest of descriptions, the golf swing is a combination of movement patterns. Therefore we believe golf swings can be refined or retrained with movement training programs like Pilates. The golf swing is dynamic and athletic, requiring excellent hand – eye coordination, strength, flexibility and balance. All of these key components are addressed and trained to higher levels in the Pilates Method. The majority of golfers don’t have a level of physical fitness or flexibility that can support or sustain the dynamic golf swing they desire for eighteen holes of golf. Furthermore, solely working on swing mechanics to improve consistency in your golf swing will not necessarily work all the time. This is due to the fact that it is your level of fitness and ability to move freely, efficiently and consistently that enables good swing mechanics to occur in the first place. The Benefits of Pilates to your Golf • Improved Balance and Control • Significantly increased Flexibility and Rotation • Stronger & Consistent swings • Greater Precision & Increased Length • Enhanced Co-ordination and Concentration • Lowered handicap Some golf swings are traditional and technically correct, others are not. Like walking, crawling, swimming, kicking and throwing, the golf swing is ultimately another way that humans can move. Through Pilates we teach the movement patterns that form the foundations for a consistent pain free dynamic golf swing. This involves blending floor work with equipment training and designing individual programs to suit your specific needs. Pilates is highly recommended for anybody serious about improving their golf! David Grech trained through the Australian Pilates Method Association and he has taught Pilates at The Melbourne Golf Injury Clinic for the past five years. He has worked with numerous coaches, tour players and the Australian Institute of Sport Golf Program and recently opened a Pilates and Golf Centre at St Andrews Beach Golf Club specialising in Pilates for Golf for all age groups and levels of golfers. To find out more about Pilates or to make a booking with David call 0417 554 294.

RUGBY WORLD CUP 2007 Golf and Rugby Extravaganza! France 11-22 October 2007

Quick Tips While swing width is thought to promote power in the golf swing, it’s often ignored in chipping & pitching. Width comes from keeping the left arm firm throughout the swing. Should it break down, the swing arc narrows and changes the clubhead’s path. That leads to inconsistent contact and lack of control. The left arm is the key to maintaining the swing’s arc and allows you to swing on the same path every time. Hence more crisp pitch/chip shots.
