In response to a call by First Lady Michelle Obama and the Partnership for a Healthier America, the Y has expanded its longtime commitment to supporting healthy living by adopting a set of Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards. LEADERS IN TRAINING STURGEON BAY ENTERING GRADE 7 AND OLDER The LIT (Leaders in Training) program is a leadership development and mentoring program. This training program will provide an opportunity for youth that are too old for our camps to give back to the program by assisting our adult counselors with camp. The goal of this program is to provide participants with opportunities to improve their leadership skills and to be an example of the YMCA’s four core values (honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility). In addition to working on leadership, the LIT program develops skills needed to deal effectively with groups of children, organization, safety awareness, and motivation. Participants are expected to commit to a set schedule (or adequate communication with their supervisor if unable to attend), participate fully in camp activities, and to demonstrate positive role modeling at all times.

WEEKLY THEMES
Aloha Summer
It’s time to say hello to summer with new friends at summer camp. Week one focuses on getting to know each other, building camaraderie, and becoming familiar with the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Campers will also take a sailing lesson with the Ephraim Yacht Club (EYC).
Week 2: June 20 – 24 Heritage & History
The sun will peak with the summer solstice, and campers will delve into the Scandinavian traditions of the peninsula that coincide with midsummer celebrations. A trip to Sister Bay Historical Society’s Corner of the Past Museum will highlight the week’s history lessons.
Week 3: June 27 – July 1 Nurturing America’s Nature
Leading up to Independence Day, campers will take a closer look at the natural world surrounding them. With a foray to The Ridges Sanctuary and an expedition along their Family Discovery Trail, campers will gain further insight into our unique ecosystem. All-American crafts and games will be a preview to the long holiday weekend.
Week 4: July 5 – 8
Maritime Marvels
Week 5: July 11 -15
Performer’s Paradise
Week 6: July 18 – 22
Camp Cuesta
Week 7: July 25 – 29
Food Frenzy
With 250 miles of shoreline, the Door Peninsula has a rich maritime history. Campers will learn about the allure of shipwrecks, the lore of Death’s Door, the commercial fishing industry and our shipbuilding traditions, as well as travel to the Door County Maritime Museum’s Gills Rock location to check out the fishing tug Hope.
Campers will learn traditional folk dances with the Door County Folk Festival, as well as experience other types of performing arts throughout the week. With a backstage tour at Peninsula Player’s Theatre, campers can experience their own curtain call. The day camp experience will transition to a resident camp overnight at the Girl Scout’s Camp Cuesta in Baileys Harbor. In addition to learning outdoor survival skills, campers will enjoy a night full of grilling, storytelling and making memories. As the summer growing season hits its stride, campers get the opportunity to take a closer look at where their food is grown and raised. A trip to Seaquist Orchards Farm Market will highlight everything there is to know about cherries, bringing the fruit of the Door Peninsula to the forefront of campers’ minds. Swim lessons at the beach in Sister Bay will also begin.
Week 8: August 1 – 5 Water Ways
Exploration of Door County and its surrounding water will continue as campers take to the bay with a Shoreline Charter Boat tour. Since The Ridges Sanctuary is always a favorite, campers will return to the lakeside of the peninsula. This time, the focus will be on the Baileys Harbor Range Lights’ role in keeping boats safe and a picnic on the beach.
Week 9: August 8 – 12 Island Adventure
Camp will depart from the mainstream and mainland for a day trip to Washington Island. Hopping aboard the ferry will be the first of many vantage points to get a glimpse of an island way of life.
Week 10: August 15 – 19
Fun at THE Farm
Week 11: August 22 – 26
Aloha Summer
From four-legged friends to wild things with wings, animals will be the motif for this week of camp. A trip to THE Farm, a living museum of rural America, will provide campers lots of hands on opportunities and educational experiences with cuddly critters. Our last week of camp will be a time to feel the sand between your toes, to savor the warmth of the summer sun on your face, and to recap highlights from summer before heading back to school. Campers will have ample opportunities to reflect on their summer of adventure.
