Welcome to the Y.
From Our CEO
I hope you had an enjoyable and uneventful winter and early spring and that you are looking forward to your summer in Door County. As your thoughts turn to outdoor activities I hope you will continue to make the Y part of your plans for the months ahead. This program guide outlines programming for all ages from day camp for children to a wide variety of aquatic, wellness and fitness classes for all ages. We encourage you to think about enrolling your children in swim lessons. We live on a peninsula, surrounded by water and comfort around the water is important for all age groups. Parents may want to consider day camp for children 5 years of age and above. Our eleven weeks of camp are unique from any other programs offered in the area. Access to Y facilities, such as our pools, activities and field trips make our program especially attractive. If finances are a challenge, please let us know; many of our campers are eligible for financial assistance. If you have children in grades 7 through 12, they may want to enroll in our Peak Performance Clinic to enhance speed, agility and strength. A complete list of programs is outlined in our Y’s guide. If you have not visited our newly renovated and expanded Northern Door Program Center, please take time to visit soon. In the past two years, more than $2M has been invested in that center to help us better serve our members and guests and allow us to have a far greater impact on the community. YMCA Peterson Park in Sturgeon Bay is open for a second year and the public is welcome to enjoy the playground, walking paths and sports fields. Our Y is in its' 30th year of serving as the community center for the residents of Door County. Please remember, we welcome everyone to use and enjoy our Y programs and fee assistance is available as we work to honor our promise to serve all without regard to financial ability. Best wishes for a safe and happy summer in Door County. Tom Beerntsen, CEO Door County YMCA

SPECIALTY PROGRAMMING
l Beginner Friendly classes
l PARKINSON EXERCISE • Exercising with Parkinson Disease & Parkinson Related Syndromes
An exercise group geared toward individuals with Parkinson Disease (PD) and related syndromes may be just what you’re looking for; it is designed and led by a physical therapist with experience working with individuals with the syndrome. The first 30 minutes will be spent on stretching with a focus on trunk mobility. During the remaining 30 minutes, participants will walk on a treadmill. The theory behind this program is that improved trunk mobility combined with an aerobic conditioning program should lead to improvement or maintenance of functional activities used in every day life. New participants are always welcome. Wear comfortable clothes, athletic shoes and bring a water bottle to class. Please call Carl (PT) or Shawn (PTA) with questions at Ministry Door County Medical Center Rehab 746-0410. A physical therapist evaluation is required prior to registration (in most cases this evaluation is covered by Medicare or insurance).

A little history about Friendship braceletsA friendship bracelet is a bracelet given by one person to another as a symbol of Friendship. The friendship bracelets are handmade, usually made of embroidery floss. There are various styles and patterns, but most are based on the same simple half-hitch knot. The amount of thread used in bracelets varies depending on the pattern. The smallest pattern, a double chain knot, requires two strings while the candy stripe can have as many as 3 or more strings depending on the desired thickness.
