National Western Stock Show • Denver, Colorado
BULLS in the
Ballroom
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity has been initiated by Gelbvieh breeders and supporters to increase participation in the National Gelbvieh Show, the National Gelbvieh Sale, the National Gelbvieh Convention and to identify the most useful young sires in the Gelbvieh breed. The sponsor of the annual Futurity will be the Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity, Inc., a non-profit organization, not associated with the American Gelbvieh Association. The Futurity winners will be selected by scored balloting of the participating breeders members. Ballots must have a different bull in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions. Ballots must include all 3 positions. The consignor of the Futurity winner shall receive approximately 80% of the net Futurity funds. Two runners-up will be identified to receive approximately 10% respectively. The Futurity winner will be sold as lot 1 in the National Gelbvieh Sale. The net sale proceeds of the winning bull will be given to one breeder member who will be selected by a random drawing. Each Futurity breeder member will receive 20 (twenty) units of semen from the winning bull. The initial voting will be held at the National Western Stockyard Arena on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 8:30 am. The top 3 vote winning bulls will be honored Saturday night January 9, 2010 at 7:30 pm in the Red Lion Hotel with “Bulls in the Ballroom V” Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity. The Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity winner and runners-up will be announced at “Bulls in the Ballroom”. The general public is welcome. The 2010 Futurity is limited to 63 breeder memberships. The 63rd breeder membership will be sold at public auction before the drawing for the sale proceeds.

PMG Ulysses 20U is another top notch perspective out of LJS Sally, one of the nations top producing donor cows. Maternal sibs to Ulysses include PMG Maxum 22M a 2004 Futurity candidate and Nat’l Western Division Reserve, JHG Premonition a leading semen seller and Nat’l Western Reserve Champ and many others serving in seedstock operations around the country. His sire PMG Pegasus was the 2005 Futurity Champion and sired the 2007 AGJA Nat’l Champion Female. Ulysses carries on the tradition of excellence with a heavily muscled, long spined, moderate framed structure. His low birth wt and great calving ease EPD’s make this homozygous polled sire and excellent candidate for your vote.

Bram 79u is a very powerful and athletic bull as you will soon see. Bram 79u is a 06/08 bull and brings to the table the whole package. Sired and raised in the West Texas terrain, Bram 79u is durable, strong, and raised to cover large areas without losing the “wham” factor. He is a homozygous black bull that moves easily. Please take a long hard look at Bram 79u. We think you’ll like what you see.

The foundation of this great breed is the Gelbvieh female. We believe in the maternal magic of these females and, for this reason, we have focused on cow families with proven consistency. Jammer’s dam, Wilma 10N2, is a 2009 Dam of Merit female who records ratios of 99 BW, 112 WW, and 100 YW. Her dam, 3R Polled Wilma 215A, records ratios of 123 WW and 111 YW. Jammer’s dam is a maternal sister to the cow-making AI sire Post Rock Top Brass and the famous DCSF Wilma 147H2 donor owned by Dawson Creek and Post Rock. Jammer is a black, DNA tested Homozygous Polled bull combining exceptional length and power in a super-sound package with maternal traits in the top 25% of the breed and above-average carcass EPDs. As a breed, we have been searching for a purebred bull to consistently sire fertile, milky daughters while maintaining structural soundness. We believe that Jammer is that kind of bull.

A true performance bull with show ring phenotype and unbelievable muscle mass best describes Post Rock Star Power ET this years Breeders Choice entry from Post Rock. He’s the result of an ET mating of the truly one of a kind donor Post Rock Wilma 147H2, a flush sister to the ABS sire Post Rock Top Brass and Middle Creek Star 10S. Middle Creek Star dominated the 2007 Midland Bull test with a 113 gain ratio, 128 YW ratio and a 120 Midland Bull test index ratio. Star is also an ET son of Cocoa’s Kati the $14,500 high selling female in a Top of the Rockies sale. Star Power successfully combines maternal excellence on both sides of his pedigree in a total outcross genetic package to most of the current black genetics available. He’s definitely a positive step forward from a sound, functional, fault free design standpoint without the loose sheathed and structure problems that are often tolerated in recent years. Simply put Star Power is one of the most unique, powerful and interesting breeding pieces that we’ve ever produced and win, loose or draw in the futurity Star Power will play a major role in our breeding program going forward.

According to the dictionary definition, a decade is a period of ten years, a period of ten years beginning with a year with the last digit of zero, or a group, set, or series of ten. CIRS DECADE 278U2 is THE BULL that is a product of a persistent Purebred Gelbvieh breeding program of ten years. He is the bred-and-owned natural calf resulting from Johnny’s planned mating of his heifer to Fosters. We focus on the maternal strengths of this great Gelbvieh breed – and this calf is no exception to the quality we expect. 278U2 is THE HOMOZYGOUS POLLED, DEEP RED BULL destined to impact the Gelbvieh breed for at least the next ten years – 2010 is just the beginning. Decade’s recent success in the show ring has been remarkable, but not as important as the interest he has garnered in the stalls. Many of Decade’s fans have noticed how complete he is…full of rib dimension, square-hipped and structurally correct. DECADE is in the top 4% of all Gelbvieh Sires with a TM EPD of 49, top 5% for WW, top 10% for YW and RE, top 15% for Milk, and top 20% for CW and FM. The Igenity results also show high marks for multiple traits. This set of results is quite impressive when considered altogether. Circle S Ranch – John, Carla, Kaycie and Johnny Shearer – appreciates your consideration and believes you will agree that according to definition, CIRS DECADE 278U2 is THE BULL for the new decade. We humbly invite you to cast your vote for CIRS DECADE 278U2.

We at Dromgoole’s Heaven are bringing you our best futurity entry ever. We say that because we believe this bull is simply the best we have ever raised!! JDPD Akin 140W is phenotypically right from front to back and top to bottom. He is a unique combination of moderation, thickness and structural soundness. Akin has stout features, abundant width of body, and super sound feet and legs. A big attraction is his rib shape and extra volume, plus the ease of condition which accompanies these traits. He was the Grand Champion Bull at the NAILE in Louisville just last month. This young polled black bull is sound, balanced, and attractive in addition to great tabulation. He records an exceptional EPD profile with no holes to patch in the next generation. He posts above breed average across the board. He has an exceptional Igenity profile. Akin is sired by the 2008 Reserve National Champion, Premonition. Who was also the highest selling bull at the Iowa Bull Test. Premonition is fast becoming a top A.I. sire in the breed. His sire needs no introduction, but his dam adds the awesome to this maternal driven pedigree. This dam is a matriarch to the breed with a top side showing Princess of Power and the bottom side to Shining Spirit. A truly unique combination that will make “real” cows. Akin is the natural step to take for improving phenotype while maintaining rock solid numbers and genetic profile. We would appreciate your vote.

Riddle: What do you call a bull with a 3.92 lb. WDA; a performance test gain of 4.67 lbs/day; a feed conversion ratio of 4.8:1; and a Residual Feed Intake of -1.86? Answer. EGL NORTHERN PACIFIC W026 ET. Northern Pacific is a feed efficient performance bull. He was the top gaining bull in our feed trial among 130 contemporaries. He was among the top five bulls tested for RFI. He ranks in the top 3% of the breed for weaning EPD and the top 5% for yearling EPD. He is also in the top 25% for calving ease and he is breed average for milk. Plus, he looks like a bull should. His sire continues to lead our RFI testing with nearly 1,000 animals through the system. On the maternal side you will find the Knoll Crest influence and the national champion Farah. Northern Pacific’s performance numbers mean something. They mean heavier, more efficient calves. No guessing required.

Cisco is likely the most complete purebred we have ever raised out of one of our best donor females, an Echo X Kaiser that is easy fleshing and a excellent milker. Cisco is extremely long spined with a huge top and hind quarter. He is as square as you could make one when viewed from the side or behind. He is also very stout with a wide chest floor, big boned and a big foot. He is structurally very correct and extremely athletic with lots of flex in his joints. Homozygous black, homozygous polled, genotypically, phenotypically, championship pedigree, and a nice set of balanced numbers, we believe this bull offers something for everyone. Be sure to take a good look at him and we think you’ll agree he may just be the next great one you’ll want to breed your cows to.

Dirty Little Secret is an extremely well balanced bull that is sound with a big foot, deep sided and full of rib and muscle shape. He is long fronted, clean sheathed and is an attractive package. Dirty Little Secret is the progeny of two mega producing parents, his dam BABR Secret Crush needs no introduction, she most recently produced the 2009 Reserve National Champion Bull (BABR New Secret) in Denver and the 2007 Reserve National champion purebred female (GLWG Diva). This is a cow that we can always count on to produce a good one. Dirty Little Secret’s sire, BEA Silverado, is a herd bull that we lost this past summer and this will be the last set of natural service calves. He has produced many herd sires that are used across the Gelbvieh breed, Such as BABR Gentleman Jack and BEA Johnny Walker. Silverado is a meat maker and his offspring exhibit a ton of rib and muscle shape, Dirty Little Secret is sure to follow in his footsteps.
