Moments in Life By Andrea Murray
S
ummer is always a busy time of year, and this year has proved to be no different. I’m sure many of you, like myself, feel that summer vacation was here and now nearly gone, all in an unperceivable whirl-wind. My grandfather joined our Lord savior and heavenly Father shortly after our return home from Junior Classic. As expected, I have spent many hours pondering on life since his passing. Grandpa Raymond was a joyful, generous man of strong faith. He bore no burden solely but shared them with his savior, seeking guidance and peace. I will cherish the moments spent together sitting at his kitchen table eating Stauffer’s Iced Animal Cookies making small talk. Like the memories and moments with Grandpa that I hold dearly, our youth will have defining moments that will create lasting memories while in attendance at Junior Classic. The American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) cannot solely take credit for the outstanding individuals that have come through its program in past years nor those yet to come. This task is accomplished with the support of many, none more than their own parents. The AGJA is blessed to have such plentiful well-rounded, driven persons. These youth are pushed to grow and succeed in their daily lives by devoted and caring families. The buck doesn’t stop there though. As the parent association and as individual adult members we have a responsibility to share in the task of modeling the future leaders of the American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) and that of the beef industry. With little observation of past AGJA members it’s easy to see this is a very obtainable goal. Numerous Gelbvieh enthusiast, 158 exhibitors and 279 cattle converged in Waterloo, Iowa, the first week of July to kick off the Corn Fed Classic. Junior members were busy competing in various contest honing valuable skills that will make them the leaders of the future. Impromptu speaking, sales talk, and the judging contest promote quick and decisive thinking, clear and controlled speaking, and approachability. facts, identifying feeds, tools and equipment, Gelbvieh trivia, AGA staff, and the cattle industry. Contest completed prior to arrival at Classic like creative writing, video, poster, graphic design, and photo give youth the opportunity to acquire marketing and promotional skills. While team fitting, and showmanship allow members to showcase knowledge of an individual animal, hours of work spent at home, and expertise in pulling hair and clipping. Through the mentor/protégé program seasoned Classic participants assist first and second-time attendees in negotiating six action-packed days. Giving the less experienced youth a go-to person for questions, guidance, and kindling many lasting friendships. Through these contest and programs junior members gain camaraderie, hard work, dedication, and perseverance, which are all traits to be admired of our leaders of tomorrow’s beef industry. The week was concluded with the cattle shows. On Thursday, Brent Vieselmeyer, Amherst, Colorado, evaluated the Balancer bulls and females along with the showmanship classes. Friday, Brad Bennet of Seward, Nebraska appraised the steers and Gelbvieh cattle. The Corn Fed Classic was completed with the annual awards banquet and dance Friday evening. We left for home Saturday morning with a copious amount of memorable moments. For our household, one of these lasting moments happened for our youngest, Breckon. After four years of watching his brother from the sidelines he was finally old enough to compete. The week was filled with plenty of firsts, two made his face light up more than others. Winning his first belt buckle, and the attention and devotion that ten AGJA Board of Directors gave him! Finally, I would be remiss if I did not cease the chance to extend my gratitude to the Iowa/Illinois group and others who assisted them in hosting such a fabulous week in Waterloo. Thank you to the junior board for their hard work and dedication to this event and towards the junior members. Thanks to the generous sponsors that help make this event possible. Thanks to the parents that embrace our youth and value the skills learned during and while preparing for Junior Classic. I look forward to seeing all of you in Lebanon, Tennessee, at the 2019 AGJA Music City Showdown Classic. D

A Week to Remember at the Corn Fed Classic By Kallie Mattison
T
he 2018 American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) Corn Fed Classic was held July 1-6, 2018, in Waterloo, Iowa, at the National Cattle Congress facilities; it was truly a week to remember. The week may have begun with a little flooding, but we sure did not let that dampen our spirits. On behalf of the AGJA, I would like to thank the Iowa Junior Gelbvieh Association and Illinois Junior Gelbvieh Association members and parents for exceptional junior classic, and for the countless hours put in to planning the event. This year, contests were as competitive as ever and juniors came together as teams and left with new friends. I love to look around the barns to see kids playing catch or tossing bean bags, activities that started as something to pass the time, but ended up with memories being made. The juniors competed in contests throughout the week that tested their knowledge of the Gelbvieh breed and the beef industry as a whole. The impromptu speaking contest challenged juniors to learn about current events in the industry by reading given materials to look for information to support their topic. The sales talk contest challenged juniors to take a look at certain animals, explain how they fit the buyer’s needs, and sell

the animal(s), which are valuable skills for young cattle producers. There are several other contests juniors can participate in, and there is not one contest that we put on at the junior classic each year that does not challenge the juniors to expand their knowledge of the beef industry. The showmanship contest as well as the Balancer® bull and female show was held on Thursday and the purebred Gelbvieh bull and female show was on Friday. The winners out of each class, division, and show were all outstanding females and bulls that represent the Gelbvieh and Balancer breed well. Thank you, juniors, for exhibiting your best cattle and making the shows competitive and fun to watch. The AGJA truly is a family breed. From contest checkin on Sunday to the banquet on Friday night, I witnessed several new juniors being taken under the wings of other junior members and their families, creating lasting relationships and strong friendships. If you, or your family, have not had the chance to attend a junior classic, just know you are welcome and that you will be greeted with warm smiles as you walk in the barn. Anyone that has attended at least one junior classic knows that the memories made and knowledge gained is priceless. I have been to eleven consecutive junior nationals, and it still amazes me that each year keeps getting better and better. Every year I look forward to seeing great cattle and even better people at junior nationals. I hope to see you all next year in Tennessee! D

Truly an Unforgettable Experience By Taylor Evans
J
unior Classic, an event many members look forward to each year, came and went during a very hot week in Waterloo, Iowa. The families and the cattle endured a long week of multiple environmental stressors, but were fortunate to end the week with a cut in the humidity and temperature. As we left, members were already talking about next year’s junior nationals. I had the pleasure of working with the Iowa Junior Gelbvieh Association and Illinois Junior Gelbvieh Association, the AGJA Board of Directors, and the American Gelbvieh Association (AGA) staff to pull this event together. This year’s junior classic was a success due to the teamwork
and dedication of the families and associations involved. During the week I had a chance to visit with most of the juniors and their families and I can honestly say I’ve met some of the best people in the beef industry. The overwhelming support for this junior program truly impresses me. I firmly believe that in order to maintain and grow an association there must be a solid base. Our junior program will produce the next generation of Gelbvieh and Balancer® breeders and with that will come new views and ideas that will propel this breed into the future. I urge those who have not been actively involved, or attended a junior classic to make the 2019 your first. Our present and retired AGJA board members have made it their goal and taken responsibility to leave this junior association in a better position than when they took office. They are dedicated to making the experience for other junior members as memorable and rewarding as possible. This experience has helped me understand the Gelbvieh community and its direction. I will use this knowledge to enhance the way I serve the AGA and AGJA, and just like many of you, I will not forget my first AGJA junior classic. D
CONGRATULATIONS Jaylea Pope for being named the 2018 Corn Fed Classic All Around Champion And to all the juniors on their achievements at the Corn Fed Classic

GW over the fence
Over the Fence with Rachel Kagay, Point One Development By Rebecca Mettler
“Getting youth to develop their authentic self, their own voice, and confidence with people-to-people relationships is important. You have to be able to work on developing interpersonal relationship skills. It’s easy to feel connected to people, but we lose the ability to connect authentically in person when we are constantly engaging in social media.”
What types of skills should young people equip themselves with to become a valuable asset to their future employer?
R
“Number one, be coachable. Employers want young professionals to recognize they may have a lot to learn. Being coachable means having humility and a willingness to learn and improve based on the feedback or guidance from others. It’s okay to be wrong, and young people need to be comfortable with that. Secondly, self-awareness is extremely important. Develop a clear understanding of who you are and how to leverage your own unique talents. It can be equally as important to be aware of your weaknesses; we all have them.”
achel Kagay, Maysville, Missouri, is co-founder and co-owner of Point One Development, a professional development company with clients from across the Midwest. Rachel and her business partner, Laila Down, have a deep passion for helping people understand and reach their true potential. The Point One Development duo works with corporate companies, non-profit organizations, and youth organizations to develop, engage, and retain key talent.
“Next is motivation. This is an area where youth with an agricultural background can really shine. Organizations are looking for those who are selfstarters and who have a strong internal drive. An employee that can see what needs to be done and does it without being told or having their hand held is extremely valuable.”
When you meet Rachel, it’s easy to see that she has a place in her heart for youth development. As a former Missouri State FFA officer and a strong advocate for youth beef breed and youth beef industry associations in general, she speaks from experience and from her heart when it comes to the importance of developing strong, young leaders in agriculture.
“New employees, or anyone for that matter, have to be able to take charge of their own thinking and be able to think reflectively to decide what they believe or need to do. Critical thinking is the ability to look at a situation from all angles, make the best possible choice, and then act.”
In your opinion, what’s the biggest challenge facing youth today regarding their future success? It’s talked about a lot, but Rachel feels that one of the most significant challenges facing youth is living in the social media revolution.
16 | AUGUST 2018
Possessing critical thinking skills is also on Rachel’s list of top qualities.
From your experience growing up in youth beef industry associations, what is the most important aspect of a youth beef breed association? Rachel credits the relationship building as one of the most valued assets of a youth beef breed association. The people she met during her junior
over the fence GW beef show days continue to have a meaningful impact on her life. Another important aspect of the youth beef breed association is to take advantage of the educational contests provided at events. “Get involved in other things outside of the show ring. Stretch and challenge yourself in public speaking and other contests. Building teamwork and interpersonal skills through those activities is extremely valuable. I also learned perseverance and determination. The first year I competed in a breed association national public speaking contest I won, but the next year I didn’t even place because I had become overly confident. I then learned the valuable lesson of humility and the importance of hard work.”
You work with several youth organizations, what is one commonality between the young leaders regardless of their organization or industry ties? “The thing I’ve learned with a youth audience is that they have limitless potential. I know that sounds cliché, but young people have this thirst and hunger for discovering what they are good at and learning selfconfidence, and it’s fun to see it come to life. We try to help youth become aware of what makes them unique and give them the tools to exponentially increase their confidence in themselves and to leverage their talents for themselves and for the world.” D

junior news GW Developing Gelbvieh Youth One Scholarship at a Time By Rebecca Mettler
E
ach year the American Gelbvieh Foundation (AGF) plays an instrumental role in providing deserving American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) members with scholarships to further their education. Youth development is one of the three pillars of the AGF, along with member education and research and development. Providing AGJA members with scholarships is one way the AGF accomplishes its support of youth development. This year, a total of six scholarships totaling $4,250 were announced at the 2018 Corn Fed Classic awards banquet, which was held in Waterloo, Iowa. The 2018 scholarship recipients include Grace Vehige, Billings, Missouri, $1,000 Earl Buss Memorial Scholarship; Sydney Taubenheim, Amherst, Nebraska, $1,000 Leness Hall Memorial Scholarship; Aubree Beenken, Buckingham, Iowa, AGJA $750 Scholarship; Kallie Mattison, Lamberton, Minnesota, $500 Rea Memorial Scholarship; Halee Allen, Hillsboro, Ohio, AGJA $500 Scholarship; and Caitlin Griffin, Westminster, South Carolina, AGJA $500 Scholarship. Grace Vehige, daughter of Tom and Stacy Vehige, was selected to receive the $1,000 Earl Buss Memorial Scholarship. Grace will begin her sophomore year at the University of Arkansas in the fall. At the University of Arkansas, Grace is majoring in agricultural communications and was the co-treasurer of the Sigma Alpha- Iota Chapter Agricultural Sorority in 20172018, on the design committee of the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, along with being involved in the Agriculture Future of America organization. During the Arkansas State FFA Convention, Grace held the executive media intern position with the University of Arkansas. The $1,000 Leness Hall Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Sydney Taubenheim, daughter of Mike and Renee Taubenheim. Sydney obtained her associate degree from Mid-Plains Community College and is now working
towards receiving her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center School of Nursing. Along with her involvement in the AGJA and other agricultural and community organizations, Sydney was also a member of the McCook County Community College women’s basketball team from 2015-2017. Aubree Beenken, daughter of Marc and Angie Beenken, was selected to receive the AGJA $750 scholarship. Aubree will graduate next spring from Iowa State University (ISU) with dual degrees in animal science and agriculture and society. She plans to attend graduate school to earn a masters and Ph.D. in animal nutrition with a focus on ruminant nutrition. This summer Aubree completed the Deans Global Leadership and Agriculture Program where she worked with the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture organization in Rome, Italy. Kallie Mattison, daughter of Scott and Sonia Mattison, received a $500 Rea Memorial Scholarship. Kallie will begin her freshman year this fall at South Dakota State University majoring in Animal Science. During high school, she was active in FFA and served as the chapter vice president her senior year and has been a member of 4-H for 12 years. She was also a member of the band, choir, drama, several sports teams and the Minnesota Honors Society. Halee Allen, daughter of Trent and Kim Allen, received an AGJA $500 Scholarship. Halee will enter her senior year at The Ohio State University majoring in agricultural communications with a minor in meat science. She has worked part time for her family’s Hunter Meats, a custom meat processing facility. She has also worked with Linde Sutherly of Linde’s Livestock Photography and is a past intern for the Highland County OSU Extension Office. Upon graduation, she will continue her career in livestock photography. Caitlin Griffin, granddaughter of Ricky and Judy Griffin, received an AGJA $500 Scholarship. Caitlin attends Tri-County Technical College and plans to transfer to Clemson University to continue working toward a degree in agribusiness. She is currently the show barn manager at Davis Farms in Iva, South Carolina, and has been involved in a leadership position over the livestock exhibits at the South Carolina Foothills Heritage Fair. Caitlin’s goals include graduating from Clemson University and expanding her Gelbvieh and Balancer® cowherd. D

The “Fake Meat” Phenomena
E
ach year the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) hosts a creative writing contest during the AGJA Junior Classic event. The first place entries in the senior, intermediate, and junior divisions are rewarded for their accomplishments by having their winning entries published in the Gelbvieh World. For the AGJA Corn Fed Classic, the senior contestants were asked to weigh in on the trending topic of fake meat and its increasing presence in the food industry and whether it will have a positive or negative impact on the beef industry.

than not, my answer is, “I don’t care, you pick.” But, he almost always picks a restaurant that doesn’t serve what I am actually hungry for, so his suggestions are usually greeted with a response like, “You want to eat there?” and an eye roll. I’m sure that he thinks it would be easier if there were only one option, but as consumers, we love choices. This fact is made evident walking down an aisle in a grocery store. Staples in the average American diet are almost always offered by more than one company, in more than one flavor variation, and in various package types and sizes to fit different budgets. Purchasing protein is no different; the first choice is beef, chicken, or pork as a primary protein source to put on the table. After making that selection, then consumers pick what cut they want to purchase. As if that isn’t enough options, there are niche markets providing consumers with the option of buying humanely raised, organic, non-GMO, antibiotic free, and growth hormone free—the options are limitless. Recently, one more choice has been added to the meat counter, fake meat. Fake meat is a plant-based protein source that is designed to mimic products like ground beef in both look and taste. Companies like Beyond Beef and Impossible Burger created a product to appeal to the 8 million plus vegetarians and vegans in the United States. Unfortunately for the beef industry, they are marketing their product in a way that makes it seem like real beef. This type of marketing has caused a commotion within the beef industry and producers are working together to figure out how to combat this type of false advertising without violating a company’s first amendment rights. Fake meat has stirred up enough discussion to land it on the top five list of policy priorities that the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) is facing this year. Some articles written about fake meat portray NCBA’s concern with this issue as they are not happy with another competitor in the market for primary protein sources, but the real concern lies with protecting our consumers from misleading labels. As an industry, consumer education has been, and in my opinion, will always be a large factor in our success. Beef producers work to be transparent to show consumers that the beef they are taking home to their families was produced in the most ethical and healthy way possible. NCBA is not asking that these fake meat products be removed from the market, simply
junior editorial GW that they are promoted and sold in a way which is as transparent and truthful as beef producers strive to be. A petition has been drafted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) which requests that there be higher standards placed on what qualifies as beef, but NCBA was unsure that would be enough to keep fake meats from being labeled as so. In April, NCBA submitted a comment on the petition and requested the following two things be taken into consideration before submitting the official petition. First, “USDA should request the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) take appropriate, immediate enforcement action against improperly labeled imitation products” and secondly, “USDA should assert jurisdiction over foods consisting of, isolated from or produced from cell culture of tissue culture derived from livestock and poultry animals or their parts” (Kester).
Allowing clean meat to fall under the jurisdiction of the USDA would ensure that this product undergoes that same type of scrutiny and by FSIS standards would not be allowed to be marketed on arbitrary claims such as “clean meat.” Overall, I think that fake meat should be a concern for the beef industry. It is not only creating another player in the market, but also serves as a talking point to create doubt in consumers’ minds that the beef they are currently purchasing is not a safe product, which we know to be false. Fortunately, action groups like NCBA are working to protect our industry and the relationship we have created with consumers with their policy priorities. Fake meat is just one reason for producers to begin dialoguing with local, state, and national officials about legislation, and supporting groups like NCBA who have the beef industry’s best interest in mind. D
The FDA is responsible for the proper labeling of non-meat products. The concern with creating a higher standard for what is labeled as beef is that it will not actually address the issue of mislabeling of plantbased fake meat products. Instead this change would potentially just create more regulations for the USDA, who has authority over meat and poultry products. Requesting that the FDA take action against improperly labeled imitation products immediately addresses the issue head on, instead of indirectly through the creation of other labeling restrictions. Unfortunately for the beef industry, the dairy industry has been fighting this battle already with labeling for more than a decade since almond “milk” and soy “milk” have become key players in the market. Their industry has requested this type of nomenclature be reserved for real milk based products derived from livestock, but their efforts have seemed to be a moot point up to now. The second request made by NCBA in their official comment addresses the issue of “Clean meat”, which is meat grown in laboratories. This type of product is not available on the market yet, but to protect our industry, being proactive is key. Since lab-grown meat is created from cell cultures, it technically falls under the current definition of meat. Although NCBA does not believe that this type of product should be labeled as beef, it is important that it undergo the same USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) inspections and restrictions in order to best protect the consumer. Driving AGJA Youth Engagement
F
or the AGJA Corn Fed Classic creative writing contest, the intermediate contestants were asked to discuss ways to drive youth engagement in the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA). The first place entries in the senior, intermediate, and junior divisions are rewarded for their accomplishments by having their winning entries published in the Gelbvieh World.
By Madalynn Welsh
A
s an industry, our future depends on our youth and whether our youth are educated and prepared to take on the responsibility of feeding our evergrowing world. As we analyze what the future has to hold we find that the agriculture industry will soon be responsible for supporting the lives of 8.1 billion people in seven short years. Our plans on tackling this challenge include the use of precision agriculture, advanced animal reproductive sciences, and the latest technology that is changing how our industry works. These are all extremely important factors, but they mean absolutely nothing if we don’t have agriculturalists that are prepared and willing to take on this challenge. Driving youth engagement in the agriculture industry and our association specifically is crucial in making this happen. Our association does a wonderful job of connecting with our youth through social media. Social media has become the most common way my generation interacts with each other; and by staying active on platforms such as Facebook, lnstagram, and Snapchat, our association can better reach out to our youth for free and easy connection, education, and promotion. I realize and understand that 10 or even five years ago Snapchat wasn’t an acceptable form of business communication, but it has proven effective in gaining youth attention. By taking this step our association has begun to drive youth engagement; and by maintaining these social media platforms, we can continue to promote our breed association to our industry’s youth. In order to effectively promote our breed to our entire country, it’s important to break responsibility

down by state association. I mean, the people that work in our national office are pretty amazing, but providing youth engagement for our entire country is too much, even for them. State associations should be more active in their area in driving youth engagement, even if this means simply attending more progress shows with your Gelbvieh cattle. This year at the 2018 Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic, the Gelbvieh Association In Nebraska (GAIN) attended the Battle of the Breeds beef cook-off where we prepared a beef dish and socialized with cattlemen and women, young and old, from across our state. This provided a fun way to promote our breed and drive youth engagement. If each state association attends and participates in social events such as these, our breed will gain more attention and better promote youth and adult membership. Another effective way for state associations to drive youth engagement includes continuing to host state shows. These smaller shows provide new members a chance to become involved in our association before making the larger commitment of attending Junior Nationals. State shows also provide new members an opportunity to connect with other AGJA members in their area and get a feel for what our association is about. These smaller state shows provide opportunities for new members in the area and are crucial in maintaining youth engagement. In order to drive youth engagement as an association, we can be better about reaching out to current adult members and encouraging them to involve their kids in the AGJA. The AGJA has a lot to offer for youth members. We can be more proactive in informing our current adult members of things such as scholarships, job and contact opportunities, and the education that can be provided through attendance of junior events. By encouraging adult members to involve their children and promoting the opportunities our association has to offer, we can drive youth engagement. The examples of ways to drive youth engagement that I listed above will be crucial in maintaining and expanding the AGJA. Since our youth are the future of our association and the agriculture industry, it’s very important that we continue to drive and maintain youth engagement; these strategies will be important steps toward reaching this goal. Raising Gelbvieh
F
or the AGJA Corn Fed Classic creative writing contest, the junior division contestants were asked to discuss why they raise and show Gelbvieh and BalancerÂŽ cattle. The first place entries in the senior, intermediate, and junior divisions are rewarded for their accomplishments by having their winning entries published in the Gelbvieh World.
By Breckon Murray
I
t is commonly known there are many popular breeds of cattle to choose from. My family chooses to raise registered and commercial Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle. My parents decided to raise this breed long before I was here, but I would make the same choice today given my knowledge of the breed. Gelbvieh cattle are maternal and docile, have strong growth traits, and last in the herd for many years. These attributes make them less demanding and more profitable to raise. I like raising Gelbvieh and Gelbvieh-influenced cattle mainly because they are great momma cows. They are super mothers because they produce plenty
44 | AUGUST 2018
of nutritious milk and have high quality udders. I have also watched many of my family’s cows and heifers mother up right away and birth calves with little to no assistance. Both their abundant milk production and excellent growth traits means they wean heavier calves. My cows stay in the herd for many years because they are hardy, and good structured. They also have a superior foot size and shape which makes them the optimal breed for my area. My family farm is located in Oklahoma where the weather can vary from extremely hot and dry to heavy rainfall. This can cause some cattle to be prone to footroot, a problem not commonly experienced in Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle. The reason I most like raising Gelbvieh cattle is they are docile and gentle. This means I have the opportunity to help without my mom worrying excessively. It also makes halter breaking my show heifers faster and easier. My show heifers are always calm and mellow. That makes them easy for me to handle even though I am small in compared to them. I have some experience with other Continental breeds and some British breeds as well. However, I prefer raising Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle. They are elite mothers that last longer, wean heavier calves, and are easier to handle. D

AGJA Ambassadors Named for 2018-2019
C
ongratulations to Cameron Nowack, Bland, Missouri, and Addison Starr, Stapleton, Nebraska, for being selected as the American Gelbvieh Junior Association’s (AGJA) ambassadors for 2018-2019. The two winners were announced on July 6, 2018, at the 2018 Corn Fed Classic, which was held in Waterloo, Iowa. Cameron Nowack Cameron Nowack, daughter of Jared and Caisie Nowack, was chosen as the AGJA Junior Ambassador. Cameron is a sixth grader involved in 4-H, basketball, and of course, AGJA. As an ambassador, Cameron hopes to be able to encourage other AGJA members to push themselves out of their comfort zones and participate in more educational contests.
Addison Starr
Addison Starr, daughter of Scott and Raberta Starr, was chosen as the AGJA Intermediate Ambassador. In addition to her new role, she is actively involved in FFA, 4-H, volleyball, basketball and has won public speaking awards at regional speech contests. Addison also serves as sophomore class president at McPherson County High School. During her time as ambassador, Addison hopes to educate Gelbvieh youth and others in the beef industry of the Gelbvieh and Balancer® breed’s relevance in the commercial industry and the important role acceptance in the commercial sector plays into a breed’s success. “The strength of any breed is really based on its commercial acceptance... This is something that is very important to know because it affects every juniors’ future.”
46 | AUGUST 2018
“But most importantly, I wanted to become the American Gelbvieh Junior Association 2018-2019 Junior Ambassador because I want to give back to the association that has helped me become who I am today and that inspires me to be better for tomorrow,” Cameron said. The AGJA created the ambassador program to encourage and support youth involvement in the breed’s activities. The ambassadors represent the AGJA at Gelbvieh functions throughout the year including the North American International Livestock Exposition and the National Western Stock Show, along with many state fairs and other events.
