Preparing Today’s Youth for Tomorrow’s Industry By Andrea Murray
I
hope that this issue of the Gelbvieh World arrives finding all those who traveled to Lebanon, Tennessee made it home safe from an uneventful trip back. Hosting a junior classic is no simple feat! I want to take a moment to extend my gratitude to the generous, hard-working, Gelbvieh enthusiasts of the Tennessee Gelbvieh Association. I would be remiss if I did not also thank all the faithful, gracious donors and sponsors that gave towards awards and meals, and helped facilitate the Music City Showdown. Thanks also to the AGJA Board of Directors and AGA staff for their time spent facilitating the show and contests! I read something last week written by an amazing young woman mature beyond her years. It said, “You cannot raise your children the way your parents raised you because your parents raised you for a world that no longer exists.” Stop for a moment and think about that. Now take a minute to admit the truth of that short statement. The author is correct. In my mind, the world that my parents raised me for has come and gone. It is no fault of their own; who could have imagined the world would have made the advance that it did. Our world has changed, and to stay relevant, the Gelbvieh breed has continued to evolve to meet industry demands. The breed has moderated birth weights and improved marbling while maintaining fertility, docility, and a more moderate mature cow. Our organization has grown and adjusted since those early years also. There is one thing for certain: no matter where the future leads us, without today’s youth, the Gelbvieh breed will not exist in the next world. It is our duty as passionate and knowledge adult members of the Gelbvieh breed to prepare today’s youth as best we can for tomorrow’s industry.
6 | AUGUST 2019
A great deal of this preparation takes place yearly at the AGJA Junior Classic. This year was no different. Over one hundred junior members traveled to Tennessee to meet with old friends and make new ones. They spent the week competing in friendly but spirited contests. All of which are designed to help them prevail in today and tomorrow’s beef industry. Some would say that we devoted a week of our summer to showing cattle, but like Dale Steenbergen stated at the awards banquet, “I believe we spent seven days developing young people!” We teach them the importance of knowledge regarding not only the Gelbvieh breed but also general beef understanding through the skill-a-thon and quiz bowl contests. The photo competition teaches them how to find ways to let the cattle shine through the lens. The video contest gives individuals the opportunity to educate their viewers or promote Gelbvieh. This contest is becoming more and more relevant in today’s world and to be honest, I don’t think it even existed in my junior days. The ability to use technology to share our daily practices with consumers is becoming more and more crucial as consumers become more disconnected from animal agriculture. Through the prepared speaking and sales talk contests, youth learn to be confident, fluent speakers while being poised and personable. They also learn to negotiate a sale that is reasonable and economical. The team-fitting contest generally causes more stress for the spectators than for the contestants! Most do not believe paint can be applied until at least the five-minute warning. I’m certain there is an unspoken rule that parents are not privy to about using an entire can of tail adhesive on one leg. In reality, in just 30 minutes, youth learn the value and importance of teamwork, leadership, willingness, hard work, perseverance, and time management. The dedication and abilities these youth display at junior nationals is awe-inspiring. Even more impressive is knowing that the skills learned during weeks of preparation and in the seven days of junior classic will stay with these youth for a lifetime, no matter what path they take in life. They, like other youth raised in the agriculture industry, are beyond valuable not only to the Gelbvieh breed and to the beef industry but more importantly, as leaders of the next generation! D
We look forward to seeing you at the Sooner Select Sale, spring of 2020

Over the Fence with Wilson County Extension By Jake Renner
M
onths before the Gelbvieh breed landed in Lebanon, Tennessee, for the 2019 AGJA Music City Showdown I was in touch with the local Wilson County University of Tennessee Extension office seeking advice, volunteers, and local resources. The Wilson County Extension staff was quick to step in and join the Gelbvieh family, if only for the short time. I’m always excited to introduce our members to industry leaders like the Wilson County Extension staff who are just as excited about being a part of their agricultural story as we are.
Why do you feel youth should engage themselves in extra-curricular opportunities at the local, regional, state, and national level? When youth engage in activities outside of their schools and communities it gives them the unique opportunity to step outside of their comfort zones, meet new people, and build lasting relationships and friendships with youth and adults from other places. They also have the opportunity to learn more about their state and their country, and how others work and live, which strengthens their perspective and allows them to take home new ideas.
When it comes to involvement in the agricultural industry, what characteristics do you feel youth today possess that will serve them well into the future? Today’s youth are passionate and eager to learn new things, which will serve them well and the agriculture industry well, too!
What skills do you feel youth gain by involving themselves in the agricultural industry early on that they might not get elsewhere?
The dedicated Wilson County Extension staff. Cooperative Extension, regardless your location, is the epicenter and foundation of agricultural education. Corn Clubs for boys and Tomato Clubs for girls in the early 1900’s served as what would now be recognized as community 4-H clubs. These organizations were the very beginning of teaching the next generation of farmers and ranchers how to provide not only for themselves but their families, communities, and ultimately the world. Sharing information along the way through data collection, recording keeping, and many others forms of education sparked what is now known as modern day agriculture. The men and women who call the land grant system their career every day are ones to be recognized for their commitment to the progression of the food and fiber system through research and informal education.
8 | AUGUST 2019
Youth organizations in the agriculture industry are unique because they give not only the opportunity to strengthen basic life skills, such as communication, leadership, teamwork, and decision-making, but also knowledge-based and hands-on skills as well. Youth who are involved with the agriculture industry early on are learning about raising animals, food production, livestock management, etc. These are skills you simply cannot learn from a textbook.
What advice do you have for the next generation of industry leaders as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives? Take advantage of every opportunity you can! Build relationships and network with people who will help connect you to new opportunities later on. Take the time to explore and build your skill set. D

GW junior news
Looking Back and Leaning Forward By Jake Renner
I
can truly say it has been an honor to work with the members and directors of the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) over the past six months as we organized, prepared, planned, and executed what I can only describe as the highlight of my summer. As a former Extension agent, events like livestock shows, poster contests, and banquets are not new concepts for me. However, the Gelbvieh traditions that have paved a way for the future of the industry via our junior members are ones to recognize and appreciate their merit. Before arriving in Lebanon, I knew each exhibitor’s name and could practically tell you his or her calves’ names by heart. What I couldn’t tell you at the start of the week was just how much I would learn about their individual personalities and how much fun we would have learning about each other over the next six days. I can’t tell you how many times I was asked, “Are you the new guy?” with a cheeky smile and enthusiastic handshake. It was an honor to meet so many incredible families from across the U.S. that share my obsession for cattle, learning, laughter, and putting
10 | AUGUST 2019
every ounce of heart into your passions—whatever those passions may be. Whether the week ended the way you had hoped or not, my wish is that you recognize that your efforts over the past year in preparation for the 2019 AGJA Music City Showdown did not go unnoticed. Whether you took home a title, a buckle, or simply left with the memories that last a lifetime, I saw your joy, your effort, and your gracious smile as you represented the Gelbvieh breed throughout the week. I can’t sit back and tell you I don’t care about winning, because that isn’t the case. But what I care about more than “the slap” is the blood, sweat and tears I witnessed each one of these junior members and their parents leave in Lebanon. Showing cattle is a family sport that takes grit, tenacity, and a humble heart. I am proud to say I work for such diligent families and a breed that always gives it their all in everything they do. To the retiring AGJA directors, thank you for everything you’ve taught me over the past six months as your new junior coordinator, and all that you did before my arrival. I wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors and hope to see you across the ring someday. To the newly appointed AGJA directors, I stand beside you along with the rest of your team as we lean in full force for another amazing year working toward the progression of not only the Gelbvieh breed, but the development of ourselves as cattlemen and cattlewomen. I will continue to work for you, for the members, and for the breed to ensure we uphold the mission and traditions of the Gelbvieh breed and the AGJA. D

GW junior connection
The AGJA Family Reunion By Danielle Stock
T
he 2019 Music City Showdown, or as I like to say the AGJA Family Reunion, was a huge success. At check-in, even though most of the juniors were excited to show off their cattle and the knowledge that they had gained through this past year, they were more excited to see their old friends. Juniors were also very excited for the new relationships that they could make this year since the Classic had made it back to the Southeast for the first time in years.
Like always, the first family activity was the mentor/protégé icebreakers. Colton Ivers, who was AGJA vice president of leadership development at the time, started with a bingo card full of unique things about juniors to fill out. He then ended the icebreaker with an aggressive game of chain tag. Before we knew it every junior member old and young was in the arena getting to share the first relationship building activity of the year! The next two days were full of growth and development for our young cattlemen and women. Juniors were given the opportunity to show their skills and knowledge in various contests such as livestock judging, prepared speaking, skill-athon, quiz bowl, sales talk, and the fitting contest sponsored by Sullivan Supply. Even though these days were jam-packed full of events, it did not stop our kids from doing their favorite past time activity, playing cards. It did not matter where you were at in the barns, if you saw juniors they were most likely playing goldfish, Euchre, or Uno. Wednesday had a different schedule of events this year. Showmanship was on the agenda. While showmanship at the Junior Classic is always very competitive, I was proud as a board member to look around the out gates of the ring to see how most of the youth had come down to support each age division of the show. That was something to me that might have gone unnoticed by the parents who were busy supporting their own children. It showed me that our junior association has helped make connections and

junior connection GW all of the individuals whose hard work had finally come together. Once the banquet ended, we all ran to my personal favorite part of the week. The AGJA DANCE! Not only do I love to line dance with my friends, but I also love watching the friendships unfold. When 8 year olds ask a senior to slow dance with them, it’s not only adorable, but it also shows how close of a family we all are. As usual, the night ended with everyone huddled in a circle screaming at the top of our lungs to one last song. Once the song ended, we all realized that our weeklong family reunion had come to an end.
relationships that are not only fun now, but also can help further our careers in the future. After showmanship, the “Fun Day” activity was on the agenda. First up was the dunk tank. I do not remember how many juniors got in the dunk tank, but there was definitely a lineup to get wet. Following the dunk tank was a magician. Then came what sounded like everyone’s favorite activity yet, slip ‘n slide kickball, which included pools of water for bases. Everyone had a great time.
For those of you who were unable to attend, you missed out on a fun week. The Wilson County Fairgrounds was an amazing facility for this year’s event. Thank you to the families of Tennessee who graciously put on our family reunion this year. You definitely didn’t disappoint. Also, thank you to all the sponsors and donors of the 2019 Music City Showdown. It would not have been possible without you. I cannot wait to see everyone in 2020 at the Route 66 Classic in Springfield, Missouri, July 5-10, 2020. D
Then came two days of showing and the banquet. It was here that our supportive juniors shined through once again by clapping and cheering on

junior news GW The People. The Cattle. The Vision. By Emily Schilling
T
he Tony Hayek Memorial Award was established by the American Gelbvieh Junior Association Board of Directors in 2002 after Tony’s untimely passing as a result of a farming accident. As an active member of the American Gelbvieh Association and Gelbvieh Breeders of Iowa, the loss was felt by Gelbvieh members across the country. Tony Hayek always believed the future of the breed lies with its junior members. He passionately encouraged young cattlemen to take a more active role in the production of their own animals and building their own herds. These guiding principles were most clearly displayed in his own children, Tina, Stan, Shellina and Janelle, who not only exhibited bred and owned cattle at junior classics across the country but continue to remain involved in the breed still today. The first inaugural Tony Hayek Memorial Award was presented at the 2002 AGJA Dixie Classic in Perry, Georgia, to the Grand Champion Bred & Owned Female
exhibitor. It commemorated all that Tony Hayek believed as it was inscribed on that first award: The dedication to what makes the breed great - The People. The Cattle. The Vision. At that 2002 AGJA Classic Banquet AGJA Board Member, John Hadden, agreed to shave his little longer than cowboy accepted hair length in return for donations to fund the award. What was initially thought to be an initiative that might raise a few hundred dollars was an outpouring generosity and show of support that raised $5,500 from over 60 breeders from more than 15 states to establish the award in perpetuity. This year’s Tony Hayek Memorial Award winner was Austin Teeter or Mount Ulla, North Carolina, who exhibited the Grand Champion Bred and Owned Gelbvieh Female, AMT Bobbi 98E, at the 2019 Music City Showdown, in Lebanon, Tennessee. History is easily forgotten if not shared. Past, present, and future generations all have the responsibility for understanding the past as it provides the direction for the future. I had the distinct privilege to be presented that inaugural Tony Hayek Memorial Award. We should all understand that reward comes with responsibility and that includes a lifetime of dedication to what makes our breed great - The People. The Cattle. The Vision. D

he AGJA Board of Directors made the bold choice during their March board meeting in Kansas City to host an online sale to help serve as an additional fundraiser for the AGJA Junior Classic. Fully understanding that it was a lot to take on with just a few short months before we headed to Lebanon, the 2018-2019 Board of Directors put their nose to the grindstone and put together an online sale twice the size they had originally hoped for. With over 40 lots, including an embryo transfer opportunity, semen, and a certificate for service from Trans Ova, the first annual AGJA Online Fundraiser was a huge success thanks in large part to our generous members and industry partners. Based on the pure interest from our members both in donating lots, as well as participating in the auction, it’s safe to say that the AGJA
Online Auction will continue well into the future. Be sure to look for notification from the AGJA after the first of the year to begin accepting contributions for the 2020 auction. In addition to the Online Fundraiser, the AGJA hosted their annual silent auction throughout the week of the 2019 AGJA Music City Showdown that took place in Lebanon, Tennessee. Word around the barn was this year’s silent auction not only had more lots than the seasoned members could remember, the quality was through the roof. On behalf of the AGJA, a huge thank you goes out to the members of the Tennessee Gelbvieh Association for helping to coordinate the event and spread the word to local sponsors. The Junior Classic is the highlight of the summer for many junior members and their families along with AGA staff. Without the humble donations and generosity of many, the Junior Classic would cease to serve a hub for friendship, memories, and growth for our junior members for years to come. The AGJA wishes to thank all those who contributed to the fundraising efforts through the years. Be it donating a lot, serving a meal, helping organize, or buying tickets, we are grateful for all that you have done and continue to do for our junior members. D

Evaluating Sustainability in the Beef Industry
F
or the 2019 AGJA Music City Showdown creative writing contest, the senior division contestants were asked to evaluate sustainability in the beef industry. The first place entries in the senior, intermediate, and junior divisions are rewarded each year for their accomplishments by having their winning entries published in the August Gelbvieh World.

amily heirlooms. These are objects that are deemed significant and are passed down from generation to generation. Family heirlooms are treasured and well cared for; they are handled with caution and are respected. In this instance, the world’s population is one family; beef consumers are family. As beef producers, our gift to our family is a quality beef product. With each generation, the skills of farming and ranching are passed down. We are responsible for raising and supplying beef across the world. Our mission is to efficiently supply a food product that is positive environmentally, socially and economically. While the idea of sustainability may sound simple, what does it truly mean to be a sustainable beef farmer? If you ask me, there is no one set definition for sustainable beef. Sustainability can mean anything from social responsibility to environmental responsibility. I’ve heard beef sustainability described as addressing the needs of the Three E’s: environment, ethics, economics. Sustainability in the environment relates to our surroundings and the sources of life. Examples of environmental sustainability for beef producers include the following: managing natural resources responsibly, working to help decrease beef ’s carbon footprint, and managing water sources. On the other hand, sustainability relates to ethics because it addresses the morals and values that play into the decisions we make as producers; our decisions affect the people and animals that we feed. We are able to be ethically sustainable by caring for the health and wellbeing of our animals, ensuring food safety and

operating our businesses with safety. The final practice for sustainability encompasses economical standards. Economical sustainability addresses the way that product values are exchanged. Beef producers practice economical sustainability by ensuring efficiency within the supply chain, supporting local businesses and being attentive to global food security. Over time, the influence of sustainability has added pressure to the agricultural industry due to challenges with the world’s climate, its resources and the dynamics of our human population. The beef industry has been a leader in sustainability. There are many factors that are constantly being battled in the agricultural industry, specifically in the beef industry. As beef producers, we are faced with consumer challenges and wavering demands. In the market, sustainable products have been trending and growing in popularity. Restaurant chains, such as McDonald’s, have become aware of these market trends and are currently working with their supply companies to address the consumer demands. These companies have pledged to move toward providing sustainable products, especially sustainable beef products. When businesses like McDonald’s pledge to move toward sustainable beef products, it means that beef producers must move toward those practices as well. Producers with operations that vary from cow/calf to feeding or packing all work based off the demands of consumers as they face economic viability. If you talk with cattle producers, you will hear a common theme in their operational management. All cattlemen work to continually improve; improvement equates to sustainability. Because the United States beef chain is a top supplier in worldwide food security, it is vital that producers are aware of the social responsibilities, environmental precautions and economic impacts of the business. According to data from a beef marketing executive director, there are 123 ways to identify sustainable beef. To narrow the 123 indicators down, this same industry professional lists 6 indicators of sustainable beef products: animal care, efficiency of yield, water resources, land resources, greenhouse emissions and employee safety and well-being. All of the indicators of sustainable beef are geared toward providing a quality product at a feasible rate. In our industry, the most important facet to take into account is the fact that it is our duty to feed and fuel the world. Beef is sustainable because its producers are cultivators of the land and compassionate livestock
junior editorial GW handlers. The practice farming and ranching is a testament to those who came before us and those who raised us. We are beef producers because we choose to be. We may not get to decide what trends influence the market, but we do get to choose to continue to improve our practices and our production. As beef producers we choose to wake up each day with the intention of making a difference, and we do it without any request of gratitude or recognition. I think there’s something peaceful and humbling about cattlemen and women. We are people of strong integrity, and we are people with kind hearts.
technologies, we are sure to continue our advancement as the world’s best protein source. I believe that as Gelbvieh producers, we encompass strong and genuine intentions to help deliver quality products. More so, we treasure time spent with family and truly understand the value of investing in our young people so that we can continue to advance environmentally, socially and economically. By working toward more sustainable beef practices, we are providing the future generations of beef producers with the heirlooms of our trade. No matter where the industry may lead, beef is al ways what’s for dinner. D
Due to already increased market trends, sustainability is something that will continue to be a player in the agricultural and food industries in the future. In the beef industry, we can assure sustainable products by continuing to learn and improve with generational development. Beef Advocacy and Today’s Beef Industry
F
or the 2019 AGJA Music City Showdown creative writing contest, the intermediate division contestants were asked why beef advocacy is an important aspect of the beef industry. The first place entries in the senior, intermediate, and junior divisions are rewarded each year for their accomplishments by having their winning entries published in the August Gelbvieh World.
By Laura Rittenhouse, New Carlisle, Ohio
B
eef is an important component to a healthy balanced diet. Beef is the segment of U.S. agriculture with the largest economic impact. Beef also plays an important role in the sustainability of American agriculture. Most importantly, the beef industry is very near and dear to my heart, and probably your heart too. Without a strong beef industry, trade would suffer, livelihoods would wither and dramatically change, and a lot of beef by products would be missed. As beef producers it is our job to be the best advocates we can be for our industry to keep our industry strong and successful. With less than two percent of the U.S. population being directly involved in production agriculture, that leaves 98 percent of Americans to know little to nothing about where their food comes from or how it is produced. Many of them even think it comes from a grocery store. With social media being most peoples source of news and information, accurate and inaccurate information can spread very quickly and often unfairly damage the beef industry’s reputation. Advocates for the beef industry have several different faces. Beef advocacy is important at the local, state, and federal level with our lawmakers to ensure they have the interest of beef producers in mind while shaping our laws. Legislation and taxation can be extremely damaging to our industry. Property rights, environmental regulations, and trade are some of the issues we have seen affect the beef industry. As beef producers, it’s important to be leaders and role models in our communities and raise beef in a
46 | AUGUST 2019
way to shed positive light on the beef industry. Not everything about raising beef is glamorous. And there are a lot of how’s and why’s that we must answer for our neighbors and our communities, so they understand why we do what we do, even when sometimes it isn’t pretty. Things like dehorning, castration and even weaning are easily misunderstood by people who are not involved in production agriculture. Being an advocate for the beef industry on social media is another important way to keep out industry in a positive light. One post on a social media platform can be spread quickly and damage can be done rapidly. Its critical to share positive, true, and consumer friendly information on social media. People crave knowledge, but we must feed them accurate, timely information to keep the truth of our industry at the forefront. Education is another way of being an advocate. Taking time to expose youth to our industry is a great way to build a solid foundation for their beef industry knowledge base. Exposing kids to our industry at a young age can leave them with a positive impression of beef and the beef industry. Another reason we must be good advocates for the beef industry is because of animal rights activist groups. We must tell our own story before they tell it for us. They might get a hold of a photo of a cow in a pasture and Photoshop it into something it is not, then post it on social media. That Photoshopped photo will instantly get hundreds of views that then will get hundreds of comments that criticize farmers, and a picture that is not what it seems. There are 2.77 billion people worldwide who have social media accounts. That number is expected to grow to 2.9 billion by 2020. Any of these people could be looking at that Photoshopped photo, and that is hurting farmers and agriculturists greatly. I enjoy being involved in the beef industry and I hope one day to raise my kids in the beef industry as well. It is critical to me that the beef industry remains strong and viable for our future generations. This is quite possibly the most important reason we must be the best advocates we can be for the beef industry. D

AGJA Ambassadors Announced for 2019-2020
C
ongratulations to William Welsh, Franklin, Nebraska, and Grace Steenbergen, Cheyenne, Wyoming, for being selected as the American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) ambassadors for 2019-2020. Grace Steenbergen, daughter of Dale Steenbergen and Sharon Fain, was chosen as the AGJA Intermediate Ambassador. In addition to her new role, she is actively involved in FFA, 4-H, crosscountry running, track, FBLA and FCA. Grace is a sophomore at Burns Junior/Senior High School in Burns, Wyoming.
Grace’s enthusiasm for the Gelbvieh and Balancer® breed and the AGJA will serve her well during her year representing the association as Ambassador. Grace
has been attending AGJA Junior Classics since 2014, but her trip to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 2014 has made a lasting impression. “I decided to participate in all the events I could and I was beyond excited to be around others who shared the passion for agriculture and the Gelbvieh breed like me.” Advocating for the breed that Grace is so fond of comes second nature as well. She has incorporated the Gelbvieh and Balancer message into local speech competitions and FFA activities. William Welsh, son of Brian and Gina Welsh, was chosen as the AGJA Junior Ambassador. Along with being actively involved with AGJA for three years, William is a fifth grader involved in 4-H, basketball, wrestling and baseball. William, like many involved with the Gelbvieh breed, credits the people as being a spotlight of inspiration. “The thing I love most about the Gelbvieh breed is the friends that I have made in my three years of being in the association. I believe that I will have these friends for the rest of my life! Some of these friends, I am sure will be business contacts in the future.” The AGJA created the ambassador program to encourage and support youth involvement in the breed’s activities. The ambassadors represent the AGJA at Gelbvieh functions throughout the year, including the North American International Livestock Exposition and the National Western Stock Show, along with many state fairs and other events. these females more economical. This coupled with their hardiness and ease to adapt to surroundings makes them a prime choice for herds across the United States. Additionally, they offer more longevity because of their superior structure with an optimal foot size and shape, lessening chances of foot rot.
By Breckon Murray, Kingfisher, Oklahoma
If the Gelbvieh’s maternal excellence isn’t exciting enough, then the breeds added postweaning growth should be appreciated. Feedlots across the country are looking to acquire Gelbvieh influenced cattle because of their impressive gains. This paired with the breed’s ability to maintain favorable yield grades at harvest gives them a better opportunity to receive premiums.
his is an exciting period in the beef industry and an even more thrilling time to be in the Gelbvieh business. The future undoubtedly holds many opportunities for Gelbvieh cattle and their breeders. The part I love most about being in the Gelbvieh business is the maternal superiority and docility of the cattle, with an advantage in growth and adaptability. Gelbvieh cattle are the optimal breed choice for my environment and operation.
The most thrilling thing about being in the Gelbvieh business is the temperament of the cattle. Gelbvieh cattle tend to be easier to handle. This means when we are sorting or processing cattle on our operation, I have the chance to safely help. Because the breed is more docile, they cost cattlemen and women less in fence repairs and added time catching and sorting. Not to mention they are less stressful to be around. In today’s markets, it is vital to cut cost wherever possible.
F
or the 2019 AGJA Music City Showdown creative writing contest, the junior division contestants were asked to discuss why they were pumped for the future of the Gelbvieh and Balancer® breed.

In a world where expenses are high, and cattle prices are struggling every pound counts. This means the added fertility and milking ability of Gelbvieh females results in a higher percent of calves weaned at a heavier weight. More pounds of calf out of fewer mother cows makes
I’m excited about being in the beef industry and the position of the Gelbvieh breed. The cattle have numerous favorable traits, making them the smart, reliable, and profitable choice for commercial cattle producer now and in the future. D
