Welcome Beef Producers to B/F Cattle Company!

W E L C O M E

Here at BF Cattle Company we started crossing Gelbvieh and Angus cattle over 25 years ago. Since the beginning, we have been focused on making the best females possible for fescue country. We are continually trying to find the most profitable cow families and sending the rest on down the road. In my time here, one of the most valuable lessons I have learned, is that you cannot build a profitable cow herd, built for fescue, and expect EPD’s to get you there. EPD’s are fine for comparing growth and carcass traits, but truly tell you nothing about structure, fertility, or what kind of environment that a cow or bull will work in. In a day when its only popular for a business to broadcast its political views when they are ultra-liberal, and you are bullied when you do not agree, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know what we at BF Cattle Company stand for. First and foremost, I have come to the reality that Jesus Christ was sent to shed His blood to forgive my sins, along with every other person on this planet. All we must do is believe in Him. We are also conservative, not only with finances God has entrusted us with, but also from a political stance. I try to only financially support other businesses that I believe are trying to keep or improve upon the moral values that this country was founded on. This upcoming election is of the utmost importance for every citizen. The Liberals have overtaken the Democrat party in every state of the Union. They are truly pushing to overthrow everything that has made this country unique and special. I do not blame anyone if they do not personally like Donald Trump. I simply hope that on election day, everyone realizes that a vote against Trump, or any other conservative, is a vote for Socialism/Communism. If the Socialist get control, they will use so-called “climate control” of methane production from feed lots to destroy the cattle industry. If they can achieve this, as some liberals have openly aspired to do, they will succeed in creating mass chaos across this country. They are naïve enough to assume they will still be the ones in power and that we will turn to them to be our savior. This is the only reason I feel the Liberals hate Christians, because we already have our Savior! I pray God blesses you and continues to bless this country and the beef industry! Thanks for your interest in B/F Cattle Co.,

for one year from date of bull sale for a cost of 7% of the purchase price for purchases over $3000. In the event of a career ending injury, call and we will decide the best approach to the specific situation. If there is not a grave injury, I would prefer to have the bull returned. Semen Interest: Sellers will be retaining 51% semen

interest on every bull sold. Buyer will have full possession and salvage value of purchased lot(s). Semen rights will only affect the very few bulls that we determine we would like to use back in our herd(s). Majority ownership of 51% reserves the right to cancel all semen sales if seller or buyer sees something genetically perpetuated that the beef industry would be better off without. Unlike much of the A.I. industry, I would cut the head off of my favoirte herd bull if I found out tomorrow he was siring long toed, bad attitudes or bad uddered females. We sometimes must set marketing aside to truly move the beef industry forward.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. 7

Reference Sires B/F ALL IN B9720 is a moderate framed sire that adds guts, nuts, fleshing ability and depth of rib. We’ve registered 76 of his progeny! His calves in the feedlot have done an outstanding job for growth and carcass. The daughters are very easy fleshing and moderate. They calve easy and have tremendous eye appeal. Birth weights are averaging 76.8 lbs. with a YWR 101. The daughters are pelvic measuring on average of 183, and are calving on their own, with no assistance, as expected here at B/F Cattle Co.

This stud, purchased by Gretzinger Farms of Urich, Mo., at our Fall 2017 Sale is a perfect example for why we retain Half Semen Interest on every bull we sell. He’s stylish and his calves are some of my favorite. We have AI’d several cows to him with no disappointments. Calves are docile, slick haired, growthy and deliver impressive carcass merit. His Dam is still working at 11, and his daughters are making awesome prospects with pelvic scores averaging 184. The calves average 79.4 lbs. in BW, with a WWR 102 and YWR 102. We have not had to assist any calves at birth, MR JOY’s EPDs for YW top 25%, Stayability is top 15%, CW 20%, and REA top 25%. Plus, he scores a 7 for Tenderness and 6 for Docility. BW : 79.4 lbs. Gelbvieh & Balancer® Breed Averages

EPD Definitions: Listed below are the definitions of American Gelbvieh Associations EPDs and the units in which they are published. The EPDs with an asterisk (*) next to the name are available to members only.

Maternal traits:

Calving Ease Direct (CED): (CED): Percent of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when he is used on heifers. A higher number is favorable, meaning better calving ease. This EPD can be vital to a rancher looking to decrease the amount of calves pulled in his herd. Milk (MK): The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight. Calving Ease Maternal (CEM): Represented as percent of unassisted births in a sire’s firstcalving daughters. A higher number represents more favorable calving ease. This EPD is important to a rancher’s bottom line because it predicts which animals produce daughters with a genetic pre-dispostion to calve unassisted as heifers. Heifer Pregnancy (HP): Predicts the probability that a bull’s daughters will become pregnant as first-calf heifers in a regular breeding season, expressed as a percent. A higher value of this EPD is favorable, meaning that a higer percentage of a sire’s daughters get pregnant as first calf heifers compared to other sires in his contemporary group. 30-month Pregnancy (PG30): Predicts the probability that a bull’s daughters will become pregnant and calve at three years of age, given that they calved as first-calf heifers. This EPD is expressed as a percent, again, with a higher number being more favorable meaning a higher percentage of a sire’s daughters will calve at three years of age, given they calved as first-calf heifers. Stayability (ST): Predicts the genetic difference, in terms of percent probability, that a bull’s daughters will stay productive within a herd to at least six years of age. The stayability EPD is one of the best measures currently available to compare a bull’s ability to produce females with reproductive longevity.

Growth traits:

*Average Daily Gain (ADG): Difference in average daily gain in pounds based on an animal’s performance during a feed intake test period. *Residual Feed intake (RFI): Defined as the difference between an animal’s actual daily feed intake and its predicted daily intake based on growth rate and body size. Animals with a positive RFI value are deemed more inefficient because they consume more than expected while animals with a negative RFI value are considered more efficient because they consume less than expected.

Carcass traits:

Total Maternal (TM): An index that combines growth and milk information as a prediction of the weaning weight performance of calves from a sire’s daughters. As an index, this value is not reported with an accompanying accuracy. A greater TM value means a mother that returns comparatively higher weaning weights on her calves. TM Index = MK EPD + ½ WW EPD. $Cow: Represents genetic value in dollars of profit of an animal when retained as a replacement female relative to other animals in the herd. A higher number is more profitable genetics for maternal productivity. Feeder Profit Index (FPI): An economic selection index designed to aid producers in selecting sires whose progeny will perform in the feedlot and are sold on grade and yield. Well ranking sires for FPI have higher MB and CW than their contemporaries. As a terminal index, little emphasis is put on maternal traits such as ST and CE.

Birth Weight (BW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf. Weaning Weight (WW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning. Yearling Weight (YW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling. *Mature Weight EPD (MW): Predicts the average difference in pounds of mature weight of a sire’s progeny compared to their contemporaries.

Yield Grade (YG): Differences in yield

grade score, which is a predictor of percent retail product. Smaller values suggest that progeny will have a better lean to fat ratio. Carcass Weight (CW): Difference in pounds of hot carcass weight, adjusted to an industry standard age endpoint. Ribeye Area (REA): Differences in ribeye area in inches between the 12th and 13th rib. Greater ribeye areas are preferable. Marbling (MB): Predicts the differences in the degree of marbling within the ribeye as expressed in marbling score units. Greater marbling numbers are preferable and are an indicator of higher carcass quality grades. Fat (FT): Differences for fat thickness, in inches, for a carcass over the 12th rib, smaller numbers of fat thickness are preferable as excess fat can be detrimental to yield grade.

Efficiency traits: Dry Matter intake (DMI): Represents the average daily dry matter intake per day

consumed in pounds. A negative or lesser value is more favorable. For example, Bull A has a DMI EPD of .15 and Bull B has a DMI EPD of -.20, so the progeny of Bull B consume, on average, .35 pound less dry matter per day than progeny from Bull A.

Indexes:

Terminal Cross: Used for traits other than maternal. Gelbvieh% (BA#%): is the percentage Gelbvieh of the offspring that was contributed equally by the parents rounded down to the one-eighth. *All catalog data based on averages available at time of printing.
