GENERAL INFORMATION
The Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity was initiated by Gelbvieh breeders and supporters to increase participation in the National Gelbvieh Show, the National Gelbvieh Sale and to identify the most useful young sires in the Gelbvieh breed.
The sponsor of the annual futurity will be the Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity, Inc., a non-profit organization, not associated with the American Gelbvieh Association.
The Futurity winners will be selected by scored balloting of the participating breeder members. Ballots must have a different bull in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions. Ballots must include all three positions.
The consignor of the futurity winner shall receive the greater of approximately 80% of the net futurity funds or the net proceeds from the sale of the bull in the National Sale . Two runners-up will be identified to receive approximately 10% respectively of the net futurity funds.
The Futurity winner will be sold in the National Gelbvieh Sale. The lesser of the net sale proceeds of the winning bull or the net futurity proceeds will be given to one breeder/member who will be selected by a random drawing at the Futurity Social on Sunday night.
Each Futurity breeder member has the right to receive 20 (twenty) units of semen from the winning bull.
The voting will be held at the Performance Arena (PER), Sunday, January 1, 2023, at 3:00 pm. The top 3 vote winning bulls in the initial voting will come back to the arena for a second voting to select and announce The Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity Champion.
Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity drawing will held at The Heritage Place, Sunday night, January 1, 2023, at the Breeder’s Choice Futurity Final Events.
The 2023 Futurity is limited to 53 breeder memberships. We are selling 1 membership during the Futurity Final Events at The Heritage Place. Buyer of the new memberhip will be included in the drawing.
All bulls entered in the 2023 Breeder’s Choice Gelbvieh Bull Futurity have been DNA tested for HD Genomic EPDs and are tested for the following genetic defects: AM; NH; CA; and DD. The winning Breeder’s Choice Futurity bull is AI qualified and all tests have been completed to meet the AGA requirements for AI sires.

This has been a fortunate year with the outstanding bull calves produced in our program. We were struggling with which individual to offer as our futurity nominee. After asking other breeders it was unanimous to offer both and let the membership decide. ProHart has been breeding Gelbvieh since 1986. We started out with a base of registered Angus cows and a few Purebred females from the Broken Fork Ranch and Powers Gelbvieh. We continued to develop the cow herd in house for over 35 years. The decision was made to bring in some select females to develop a balancer program and add some new female blood lines to the purebred side. Knight Star 232K dam was one of those selection and did we get a winner with Hattie. 232K is her first calf and McCarty’s breeding decision hit a home run. He is a Lone Star D027 son who also sired MCCA Gunner 947G one of the hottest red purebreds Gelbvieh bulls on the market today. His Dam is a Judd Pendleton 253F4 daughter and a Cornhusker Red Grand Daughter. You will not find one with such a royal stacked pedigree as he. When you study his performance, he had an unassisted 85 lb. birth weight and weaned with a 791 adjusted 205 all out of a first calf heifer. Let’s talk about EPDs- 232K ranked in the top of the bred in CED 35%, WW 15%, YW 15%, HP 30%, DOC 1%, MB 15%, FPI INDEX 10%.
