Sale to be held at Marvin & Mae Maude ranch 15849 Lower Spring Creek Road, Hermosa, SD 57744 (30 miles southeast of Rapid City, 20 miles south of New Underwood, 20 miles northeast of Hermosa) Terms and Conditions: Payment is expected on sale day. If you need other arrangements, please visit with us. We sell the bulls as guaranteed breeders. We do breeding soundness exams and semen checks in March. If a bull doesn’t pass his semen check prior to delivery in April, we’ll return your purchase price in full or work with you to exchange a bull of like quality. We will keep the bulls free until April 1, but this is at the buyer’s risk. While we do everything in our power
to keep the bulls healthy and growing, things happen. We recommend purchasing mortality insurance on sale day to protect your investment. We are not liable for refunds of purchase price or replacement if death occurs between sale day and delivery. We sell all bulls with a warranty for the first breeding season. If the buyer pays for mortality insurance, CJ&L Livestock will purchase accident/loss of use insurance on every bull sold after they pass breeding soundness exams and semen check. Not always do we have a bull to exchange if injury occurs during the first breeding season. This protects both us and our buyers financially if the bull is injured during the first breeding season. We work with Klint Sickler at American Insurance in Dickinson, ND, to write the policies.
For more information on any of the bulls, please drop us a line: Lori Maude, 303-809-3789, Lori.Maude@gmail.com

CJ&L Livestock • 7th Annual Bull Sale • Dec. 19, 2020 • Hermosa, SD Dear customers and friends, Welcome once again as we prepare for our 7th annual bull sale. The country has faced some turmoil this year with the COVID-19 challenges, but it seems in rural America we continued to do what needed to be done to raise a quality beef product. This year’s bulls are one of the best sets we’ve raised and they are consistent from top to bottom. The majority are high percentage Gelbvieh with several purebred bulls. We made the commitment several years ago to build up our cowherd with more high percentage Gelbvieh females and these bulls are the result. If you run mostly Angus or British breed cows, a high percentage Gelbvieh bull will give you more pounds at weaning and the crossbred daughters will have greater longevity in the herd. The bulls are floored at $2,500. We are returning to our silent bid format. Everyone will receive a bidder number. If you are interested in a bull, make sure to bid on the silent auction sheet for that bull. Bids will close at 1:30 p.m. Mountain time. The floor price bumps to $2,600 the next day. You won’t find fat, over-conditioned bulls here. They have genetics that would allow for much higher ADG, but we simply don’t push the bulls since we want the feet and legs to hold up. We feed a cracked corn/distiller’s grain mix with 16% range cubes. They also have access to free choice alfalfa/grass mix hay. All bulls had spring and fall respiratory shots, Dectomax Pour-On spring and fall, as well as lice control this winter. We will also give them foot rot vaccinations before delivery in the spring. All bulls have tested negative for BVD-PI. We will keep the bulls free of charge until April 1, 2021. Please make sure to read the terms and conditions related to mortality and loss of use insurance. We will semen check bulls in March and continue to develop them, so they are ready to go to work for you next spring. Even if you aren’t in the market for a bull, we invite you to come Dec. 19th, enjoy lunch and learn more about our program. We love to talk about Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle, and how they can work in so many operations. If you are unable to make the sale, we can make arrangements for you to view the cattle early and handle your bids confidentially on sale day. We look forward to seeing you Dec. 19th and showing you this year’s calf crop,
The Marvin and Mae Maude Family

What do all those numbers mean? The American Gelbvieh Association uses a single-step process in figuring its Expected Progency Differences (EPDs). BOLT is a collaborative effort between several breed associations and incorporates pedigree, actual performance data and genomics into the EPDs. Calving ease direct (CED): Percent of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when he is used on heifers. A higher number is favorable, meaning better calving ease. This EPD can be vital to a rancher looking to decrease the amount of calves pulled in his herd. Birth weight (BW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf. Weaning weight (WW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning. Yearling weight (YW): Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.

Milk (Milk): The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight. Stayability (ST): Predicts the genetic difference, in terms of percent probability, that a bull’s daughters will stay productive within a herd to at least six year of age. The Stayability EPD is one of the best measures currently available to compare a bull’s ability to produce females with reproductive longevity. Key for Breed Makeup: GV = Gelbvieh AN = Angus AR = Red Angus LM = Limousin XX = Commercial/Unknown Genomic-enhanced EPDs will be available on the supplement sheet.
