We have experienced a great time in the Beef Industry over the last few years. We have experienced markets we never thought were possible 5 years ago. We know the market isn’t as dynamic as last year – but cattle prices are very good and more importantly, we have had good grass and moisture. FERTILITY is still the main driver of profit in the Beef Business. Gelbvieh and Balancer genetics are the easiest way to add and maintain FERTILITY in your cowherd. A crossbred cow can wean over 150#’ -200#’s more in her lifetime compared to a “straight-bred” cow.

We have experienced great satisfaction watching our customer’s calves – top feeder cattle markets, or gain premiums when they sale their Fat Cattle.

EPD’s - What do the Numbers Mean:

In 2012 the Gelbvieh, Balancer, Red Angus, Simmental put their EPD’s into the same system and calculated the new EPD’s. Now you will be able to compare these 3 breeds on the same EPD base. In other words you can compare the same EPD’s for Gelbvieh, Red Angus, Balancer and Simmental cattle. The Angus breed continues to do their own EPD’s – so the Angus bulls cannot be compared across breeds. Below is a brief explanation of the EPD’s: CED: CED is shown in all breeds. CED stands for Calving Ease Direct. This EPD represents a ratio that determines how easy calves are born. The higher the number – should represent easier calving. BW: This EPD is used by all breeds. It predicts the difference in pounds for birth weight. Look at the breed average and compare. WW: This EPD is used by all breeds. It predicts the difference in pounds for weaning weight. Look at the breed average and compare. The WW EPD is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning. YW: This EPD is used by all breeds. It predicts the difference in pounds for yearling weight around 365 days of age. Look at the breed average and compare. The YW EPD is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling. Milk-MK: This EPD predicts the genetic ability of a sire’s daughter to produce milk. The higher number means more milk. Marb-MB: This EPD predicts the genetic ability of a sire’s offspring to grade. This EPD along with ultrasound data predicts which genetics have a higher chance of grading Choice, Prime and etc.. REA-RE: This EPD predicts the genetic ability of a sire’s offspring Loin Eye Area. This EPD along with ultrasound data predicts Loin Eye Area which determines Yield Grade – Red Meat. FPI-$B: This EPD predicts the carcass value and performance of a sire. The EPD’s are expressed in a $ value. The FPI dollar value is based on Performance, Carcass Weight, Marbling, Ribeye. The $B value is based on performance, carcass weight, Marbling, and production costs. 50K’d Genomic Test/DNA Test: Improves accuracy of EPD’s by testing genomes. Ultrasound Information All the bulls will be weighed & measured for Ribeye area, marbling, fat thickness, and scrotal size. The bulls will also be fertility tested and will also be test free of BVD. A recent survey of top Cattle Feeders show they prefer a British x Continental cross calf. We continue to produce a number of Balancer, Gelbvieh, Angus and Red Angus that will fit in the preferred British x Continental cross. We are big believers in bulls that have great EPD’s and still look great. We have an intense A.I. program and have seen rapid improvement in using A.I. technology. Genomics (50K’d DNA) are rapidly changing the landscape of the Beef Industry. We believe the Genomic data and use this data when selecting A.I. sires – plus we have Genomic Tested all of our herd-sires. We believe the Genomic data will help propel our herd faster- for better Maternal, Performance, and Carcass Traits. Genomics is saving us 2-3 years in progeny testing bulls – allowing us to use bulls with higher accuracy EPD’s. It is truly exciting technology. We have tested 8-10 bulls for Genomic’s and hope to add to this more testing, as the cost of this technology cheapens. We want to help you find the right bull for your operation and hope we can become your Bull supplier. We again will be hosting the sale on DV Auction and we will have video’s for your viewing 7-10 days before the sale. CUSTOMER SERVICE & SATISFACTION SIGHT-UNSEEN GUARANTEE If you are unable to make the sale, we are offering a sight – unseen purchase program. We also will be broadcasting the sale on DV Auction to allow you to see a video of the bulls selling. We also have arranged a “different” set of eyes and person to talk to- if you would like another opinion on the cattle. Andy Jones will view the bulls and give you his honest opinion. Andy’s number is 785-769-4319. BULL CARE This year we are again offering to keep your bulls until April 1st of 2017. We will take your bull home and feed them for $2/per head/per day. As of April 1st we will work with you on delivery or you can come to the ranch and pick-up your bull. Buyer does assume risk of the bull after sale day for injury and/or death. We can provide buyers insurance sale day that will cover the bull for injury or death until breeding season is complete. If you have a problem with an injured bull – please contact us- typically we carry-over a few bulls and can provide you with a replacement bull for the breeding season. GUARANTEES All bulls selling for $2700 or more are guaranteed against breeding season injury for the first breeding season. A breeding season is defined as a 90 day period following the first turn out date of the bull. This is not an insurance policy. If a bull develops a problem, proper treatment or vet care is advisable. If a replacement bull is available, he will be provided. If the buyer prefers no replacement bull, we will provide credit towards another bull in the following year, less the salvage value of the injured bull.
