Production Sale

Welcome to Larson’s Lost River Livestock 12th Annual Production Sale Welcome to the 12th Annual Larsons Lost River Livestock production sale. We continue to be honored that you would consider adding our genetics to the herds you take so much pride in. Similar to years past we are offering a high-quality set of yearling bulls and some herd building kind of bred heifers. As always, we stand behind what we sell and if you should find any problems with your purchase, let us know right away and we’ll make every effort to make it right. At the end of 2020, the world collectively cheered the dawning of a new year and held out great hope for a better 2021. In the upper Midwest, it seemed like we went backwards, with disease, drought, wildfires, etc.; the challenges felt biblical. Then beginning in the late summer, the beef industry started looking brighter. Both the cow/calf producer and the cattle feeder have experienced great increases in prices received. As of this writing, fed cattle prices have seen an increase of $15-20/cwt since mid-summer and feeder prices have followed suit. We are also poised to see a few years of drastically reduced calf numbers due to culling through the drought. There are more reasons for optimism today than we’ve had for the past decade. Like many of you, we culled harder this year and had the same challenges finding enough feed for our herd. But, like most of you, we found a way and will come out the other side of the drought of 2021 smarter and savvier than we went in. Due to the drought, we weaned about a month early into extremely hot and harsh conditions. However, the bulls have caught up and are right on par with years past. In fact, we just sold the steer mates to these bulls in early January and and they gained right at 3 lb. per day on a backgrounding ration through heat, cold and whatever else the environment could throw at them. The bull calves gained nearly 3.5 lb/day on test, right on target, through the same environmental challenges this year. In addition to Gelbvieh, Red Angus and Balancer bulls, you will see that we have added some Simmental influenced cattle this year. A couple years ago, we decided to broaden our breeding horizons and add another crossbreeding option for customers that have used Gelbvieh for many generations yet want to stay with high lean yield continental genetics. We chose Simmental because they fit well with our breeding program offer another breed that has made tremendous strides in the past decade. We sincerely appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you on February 20th, 2022. Dan and David Larson

Welcome to the 12th Annual Larson’s Lost River Livestock Annual Production Sale. It is a pleasure to be back in northern Minnesota to represent the Larson’s and their awesome sale offering. 2021 was our greatest year to date. The bulls sold to commercial producers and seedstock producers nationwide with great satifaction. The 2022 sale offering represents the stongest sale offering in history of Larson’s Lost River Livestock Production Sale. LRL continues to use top AI sires and an extensive embryo transfer program to produce a product at excels in all facets of the industry. As you study the bulls you will find these bulls represent calving ease, performance, high carcass values and eye appeal. I take the opportunity to get through the cow herd every year to see the dams and sisters to these bulls and females selling. The maternal instincts in this cow herd are amazing. The factories you find in the pastures here are truly amazing females with high volume, soundness and milk that converts to the calves. The selection criteria is as strenuous as any in the country. Only 45% of the bulls born at LRL make the sale. Take time to read the selection process on page 4. The strategic plan to produce better quality in each next year is working here with the hard work, culling and planned breeding as you will see in the sale offering. When you purchase a bull or female from LRL, you are getting the program with a high quality product. Past sale offerings are working for breeders nationwide with excellent success. These bulls and females are bred to acclimate and work in many weather climates with very little maintenance. We are proud of the success breeders are having with the LRL product. Feel free to call or text with for any updated information or an evaluation of any animals in the sale offering. Sincerely, Chris Mitchell MMS

Some background about the LRL bulls and our selection process If you study the data at the bottom of the page, you can see our average bull can provide strength in several different stastical categories. And there are also bulls within the group that excel in specific areas such as calving ease or growth. However, we don’t rely solely on EPDs to make our selections; we try to use them as a tool in a broad approach to produce the best bulls we possibly can. Our selection process starts with our breeding strategy and how we determine to mate our cows with sound and functional bulls that compliment them on a phenotype basis as well as on an EPD basis. Then, once calves start hitting the ground, we can evaluate the actual bull calf. At birth, we start with an evaluation of their dams based on udder quality, feet, and disposition. We strive to eliminate as many problems as possible starting with our mama cows and anything we see as a problem is sent to our commercial herd where they can raise embryo transfer calves or feeders. Any bull calf born out of a cow we see as a problem is put on the cut list. Also, birth weight and calving ease is recorded and any bull calf with a large birth weight or a difficult birth is put on the cut list. Next, we closely watch these bulls over the summer as they develop so disposition and overall conformation can be evaluated. We are striving to produce bulls with sound and attractive conformation, depth of body, width, stoutness, and overall power. When we wean, underperforming calves, calves with poor dispositions and calves that don’t meet the eye test are cut, as are anything that has previously been put on the cut list. About a month after weaning, we again evaluate the bulls based on disposition, performance and confirmation and then make another cut. The next cut comes when our veterinarian performs breeding soundness exams and any bull that fails is pulled from the sale. So in conclusion, the bulls that make it to sale day represent the top 45% of all the bull calves born here in a given year and have jumped through many hoops to do so. Not to say we have eliminated all problems from our herd or this group of bulls, but we have done everything we can to provide you with a sound, functional, quiet and healthy set of bulls ready to breed your cows and produce easy calving and growthy offspring. If you have any questions about our management or selection process, please don’t hesitate to contact either David or Dan.
LRL Bull’s Average EPD Percentile Rank There are two ways to rank bulls you intend to buy, within a herd and between herds. Within our herd, the ratios we print allow you to rank bulls on their own performance. Take weaning weight for example, a bull with a ratio of 105 means his own weaning weight was greater than the average in our herd. However, compared with EPD’s, the ratio doesn’t do a great job predicting how his calves will perform. This is where EPD’s come into play. Using the weaning weight example (WW), a bull with a WW EPD of 75 should produce calves that wean off 7 lb. heavier than the average bull within the breed, because the average WW EPD in the Gelbvieh breed is 68. As a result, when studying the EPD’s in this catalog, the fact many of our bulls rank above, or well above, breed average means they will produce more pounds and make you more money on your calf crop.

Every year, we try to present our most complete bull as lot 1 and we feel Pacesetter J124 is very deserving of the top spot in our 2022 catalog. He is one of the most unique herdsires to ever come out of our program and excels in every category from EPDs to phenotype to a gentle disposition. As you can see from his picture, he’s as long as a train with great depth of body end to end. When you get behind him, he’s expressively muscled and carries it down deep into his flank. He’s flawless on the move and comes down on perfect feet. And even with his tremendous physical attributes, his strength on paper may be more impressive. His unreal EPD profile is led by top 35% CED, 2% WW, 2% YW, 4% Milk, 20% CEM, 35% STAY, 5% DOC, 1% CW, 1% REA, 10% MARB and 1% FPI. Regarding his entire EPD profile, 15 out of 18 traits rank in the top 35% of the breed. And his actual performance is fully as impressive recording our top adjusted weaning weight of 822 to ratio 122 and was the heaviest bull in the pen on December 31 weighing 1235. His balance between physical dominance and EPD superiority will be incredibly difficult to find anywhere else in the breed. He has the tools to greatly improve a cowherd in one generation and we plan to utilize him heavily back in our program

Our lot 2 bull comes at you as the maternal brother to our top selling bull of our 2021 sale, LRSF High Life H64, who sold for $26,000 to Cedar Top Ranch and Post Rock Cattle Company. Marathon J199 is a little different in his design from his brother but still a super high-quality individual. He brings more frame to the equation and when you get behind him, he’s about a square hipped and powerfully muscled as any bull you’re going to find. As a 78% Gelbvieh bull, you can use him to make purebreds that will offer a ton to the breed. And on the flip side of that, you can use him on Balancers to make super powerful progeny with tremendous amounts of muscle and shape. J199 also offers great strength on paper with top 30% CED, 15% WW and YW, 40% STAY, 1% REA and 25% FPI. His actual performance has been very strong as well with a 111 WW ratio and a 107 ADG ratio on test. On top of it all, his disposition is second to none. This guy covers a ton of bases and deserves a hard look on sale day.

Longrun J120 ET comes at you as the top gaining bull of the 2021 crop, gaining 4.53 lbs/day for a ratio of 132 against 60 contemporaries over an 88-day test. J120 is a big-time herdbull prospect who has really become one of our favorites since weaning. When you get behind him, he is really hard to beat as he is as square hipped and wide bodied as any bull you’re going to find. The amount of muscle and power in this guy is tremendous and when you couple that with his depth the body and attractive skeletal structure, he really sorts himself to the top. He is backed by our highly productive 77B donor who has placed numerous progeny within many seedstock operations. The cross of 77B and Frontrunner has been a home run, not only with these two full brothers but their full ET sisters are some of our top replacements.

Dynamic J164 is a moderate framed chunk who is sound in his structure and is very unique from a genetic standpoint. His rare combination of top 1% CED, top 1% MARB and top 1% FPI in a purebred Gelbvieh, homozygous black, homozygous polled package has us very excited about the possibilities of this bull. Generally, top end calving ease bulls aren’t going to offer a ton of growth and this guy likely won’t sire a bunch of frame score 7 offspring but his calves will be wide, deep and stout. He stems from our top line of Jo-Leen females and his dam is a full ET sister to a $9000 bull who sold to Taubenhiem Gelbvieh in 2017. His dam is made a lot like him; super easy fleshing and as wide and deep as you can make one.
10
Roadrunner J85 ET is a full brother to lot 3 and brings some different qualities to the table compared to his brother. First off, this guy is homozygous black where his brother isn’t and his EPD strength is likely where he shines the brightest. When you study his EPD distribution, he has 1 trait that is slightly below breed average and that sort of incredible balance and strength is going to be very difficult to find in a homozygous black, homozygous polled 99.9% purebred Gelbvieh bull. His data is led by top 10% WW, 5% YW, 25% STAY, 10% CW, 4% REA, 35% MARB and 10% FPI. Moderate calving ease, tremendous growth, excellent maternal traits and breed leading carcass, this guy is the whole package.

The high-quality Frontrunner sons just keep coming with Endurance J121. This guy suffered from a sore foot earlier in the fall so he’s been playing a bit of catch up to the other bulls in the pen but don’t overlook him just because he is a little greener. His data and pedigree are nearly unmatched led by a 109 WW ratio, top 10% CED, 3% BW, 25% growth, 10% STAY, 25% REA, 3% MARB and an FPI EPD of nearly 90, ranking him well into the top 1% of the breed. His dam is a top-notch Leverage sired female with excellent foot structure and a near perfect udder. She came to us as an embryo from C-Cross Cattle Company out of one of their top donors and we have been very pleased with the results. Her first calf sold last year to Terry Frenzel of Blackduck.

Cross Country J198 is another really well-rounded Frontrunner son backed by a very sound, exceptionally productive cow. He’s a bull that’s really turned on the jets post weaning as you can see from his 112 ADG ratio. You’re going to be hard-pressed to find a purebred Gelbvieh bull with as much depth of body as this guy and he’s no slouch when you get behind him either as he offers a big square hip and a load of base width. As stated above, J198’s dam is one of our top young cows with perfect feet, a very well balanced udder and has stuck AI every year. A maternal sister to J198 sells as lot 63 in this sale.

We have really liked our Frontrunner progeny so far and this 5-star calving ease prospect is another high-quality individual to add to his sire’s illustrious first calf crop. Tempo J181 is level topped, wide butted and has really turned on the jets after weaning, posting a very solid 3.67 lb ADG for a ratio of 107. His dam is a very functional Ditka daughter out of our Y70 cow who raised a $16,000 Leverage son who sold to Hilltop Farms, MO in 2018. All of our Ditka daughters have made tremendously productive cows with excellent udders and very functional hoof structure.

The amount of depth of body and sogginess this bull has is going to be really hard to match in the Gelbvieh breed or any other continental breed for that matter. Kirby J109 ET is a direct son of our 9801W donor and is as wide and deep end to end as any bull we’ve ever raised. And as you can see from his picture, his depth and power do not force him to be sloppy fronted or unattractive from the side profile either. He is super good and he knows it. J109 is also a breed leader in terms of calving ease, maternal traits and carcass value posting top 25% CED, top 15% BW, top 25% STAY and top 35% MARB.

He posts an FPI number of 100.54, putting him well into the top 1% of the breed. And his phenotype is tremendous with extra frame and power, depth of body and width. The Rainfall progeny around the country have been topping sales and leading programs. Rainfall is renowned for his ability to produce excellent footed offspring and wonderfully designed daughters.

Lightning J80 is our other Rainfall sired bull and we couldn’t be happier with the results of his sire. The Rainfall progeny come out easy, grow like crazy and are as eye appealing and stout as you can ask for. We don’t have any daughters in production yet but we can’t wait for them to enter the rotation. To quote Select Sires’ description of Rainfall, he is “maternal strength at its best!” So look for this 5-star calving ease prospect to give you restful nights, great sale days and some not-notch daughters.

Wizard J123 is a very eye appealing Balancer bull with outstanding carcass traits. His combination of top 15% REA and top 10% MARB is hard to find especially when you factor in the overall extreme amount of muscle and shape this guy has. Likely many of the other bulls in the sale, J123’s dam is a top notch female with strong hoof structure and nice, clean udder. She raised a bull that sold last year to Joel Stenseng of Clearbrook.
LRL home raised steers sold January 6, 2022 and topped the market for the day 56 10-month-old steers averaged 962 lbs and dollared out at $1491.60/head The steers did this well and the bulls selling represent the top 45% of this calf crop

Paul Bunyan J188 represents our lead off red Gelbvieh bull and he’s one who is really hard to poke a hole in. From cow family, to EPDs, to overall power and mass, he’s tough to beat. His dam is undoubtedly our best red Gelbvieh cow, producing LRSF Dungy H275, who sold last year for $13,000 to Foursquare Farms in Alberta. She also achieved Dam of Merit status in her first year of eligibility and then entered our donor program. She is flawless in terms of her design; foot structure, udder quality, femininity, power, depth of body, freedom of movement, she is second to none. Back to J188, he is moderate framed, super soggy made and when you get behind him, he is one of the widest butted and most powerful bulls to come through our program in a long time. His performance EPDs are also strong with top 4% WW, top 1% YW and top 15% FPI. Like I stated above, he is very hard to poke a hole in and we plan to utilize him back in our program.

North Shore J139 is a really well-rounded Gunner son backed by one of the newest additions to our donor program, C181. She’s one of the most perfect footed cows we own and has an excellent production record including a lifetime weaning weight ratio of 112, a calving interval of 360 days and is a 2-time Dam of Merit award winner. J139 is really stocky and stout with a heavy muscle pattern and carries that muscle all the way down low into his flank. He’s also strong on paper with top 10% CED, top 20% WW, top 10% YW, top 10% STAY and top 30% FPI, all in a homozygous polled, 93.5% purebred Gelbvieh package. His actual performance backs up his EPDs with a 106 WW ratio and a 108 ADG ratio over an 88 day test.

Headwaters J131 is one of the most attractive bulls in the pen with a ton of style and functionality and seems to always be posing for a picture. He is super clean and fancy fronted with a ton of depth of body and a level top. He moves out with ease and is definitely one of the coolest profiling high percentage Gelbvieh bulls you’re going to find. His dam is an ultra productive JRI Prime Cut daughter coming from our Nellie line of females with perfect feet and a great udder. She has a tremendous track record of production including a $7500 daughter that sold on the 2019 Golden Rule to Dalayne Musland of ND. This guy will definitely clean up a set of calves and make some outstanding daughters.
FPI 86.73 2
Split Rock J203 is a maternal brother to our lead off bred heifer, lot 60 and is backed by a tremendous cow who will likely enter our donor pen this spring. J203 is a larger framed Gunner son with a ton of power and is deep bodied and soggy made. He’s not a bull that you’ll want to use on heifers but is still smooth shouldered, really long bodied and should work really well on a set of mature cows to produce some big, strapping calves.

Marias J117 is a moderated framed Gunner son and one of the most massively muscled bulls in the pen. He is dark red, very well made and is backed by a tremendous young cow. His extremely attractive dam is 2 for 2 with her first 2 calves, raising this stud as well as an excellent bred female we are selling on the 38th Annual ND Golden Rule Sale at the end of January. F105 is perfect footed and has an exceptional udder with 4 small teats. If she keeps up this sort of productivity, she will quickly sort herself to the top of our herd. Look for J117 to produce heavy muscled, attractive calves and excellent replacement females.

Firebird J160 is a full brother to LRSF Dynamic Red H20, who sold last year for $12,500 to Sunset Ridge Farm in MO. Compared to his brother, this guy is a little more refined and neat through his front one-third and likely has more natural calving ease. He is super attractive and very correct in his overall design. His Profitbuilder sired dam is quickly rising to the top of our program landing her first 2 calves in the bull pen and at the top of the pen both times. Challenger J118 is another Finnegan son with top end calving ease and an extra shot of frame and power. As you can see from his picture, he is as long as a train and very eye appealing in his design. He has that smooth shouldered, long bodied look of a 5 star calving ease prospect while not giving up performance with a 103 WW ratio and top 30% growth traits. We really appreciate his quiet disposition and should make a strong addition to any bull battery.

Glory J148 is a super smooth made, 4 star calving ease prospect that I think can work on a larger framed set of heifers while not sacrificing growth; take note of his 103 WW ratio. He comes at you with excellent base width and is very sound on the move. His dam was a very solid producer for us with absolutely perfect feet and a nicely structured udder. She was sired by the maternal legend JRI Prime Cut who can be found in many, many pedigrees in our operation as well as numerous operations around the area. Look for J148 to give you solid calving ease and very eye appealing progeny.

As you can see from his picture, Grant J218 is super attractive in his overall design and is as heavily muscled and deep sided as any bull in the entire pen. He is very sound structured, easy moving and when you get behind him, he has a ton of width and muscle expression. He will definitely put pounds on a set of calves while making them very eye appealing at the same time. Couple that eye appeal and performance with his 4-star calving ease rating and you have a really complete bull.

Charger J45 is a larger framed, purebred Gelbvieh bull who has really turned on the jets after weaning. This guy walked a difficult road before weaning losing his mother when he was about a month old and then nursing a below average surrogate over the summer. However, after weaning he absolutely exploded gaining over 4 lbs/day and developing into a very nicely patterned bull with a healthy shot of power, length and frame size. And even with his power, he still offers great calving ease with top 10% CED and top 20% BW. 75%GV 25%AR Balancer Bull BD: 3/11/2021

Cobalt J10 is a really attractive 5-star calving ease prospect with tremendous depth of body and stoutness. J10 is part of our first Atomic calf crop and we couldn’t be happier with them. They are consistently deep bodied and wide with great calving ease and excellent growth. They really epitomize the type of cattle we are trying to produce and J10 fits that mold perfectly. His combination of top 20% CED, 10% BW, 1% STAY and 25% MARB is very intriguing and we feel he can offer great calving ease while siring deep bodied, stout, functional progeny and top-notch daughters.

Behind every great bull is an equally great cow and this guy is just that sort of bull. Arms Race J108 leads off our Red Angus division and has held that “lead off” title essentially from moment he was born. Great bulls start off that way and never falter and J108 is that sort of bull. His dam is one of our top Red Angus cows with unbeatable feet, a great udder and she also raised a $13,000 bull who sold in 2020 to Ressler Land and Cattle and is doing some great things for them. And even with as good as his maternal brother is, J108 may likely be better. He is an absolute do-everything sort of bull with top 1% ProS, 15% HB, 3% GM, 24% CED, 13% WW, 4% YW, 9% STAY, 8% MARB and 37% REA. Index strength, calving ease, growth, maternal superiority and carcass dominance, he checks all the boxes and we are very excited about the future of this bull.

From the moment this guy stood up after he was born, I knew he was going to be good. Right from the word go, Airdrop J126 just had “the look.” Long fronted, square butted and as attractive from the side profile as you can make one, he really has the phenotype to impress. His dam is a tremendous young cow sired by the maternal and carcass legend, 5L Defender. She hits the ground with absolutely perfect feet and maintains as nice of an udder as you can ask for. And the addition of Atomic to the equation really puts things over the top.

The donor dam of these bulls was our pick of the Jacobson Red Angus dispersal sale in 2019 based on her breed leading pedigree and EPD strength. She stems from Gary’s top line of Heidi females and sired by 5L Blockade, a bull known for his ability to sired power and muscling. Both J50 and J101 are 5 star calving ease prospects who don’t sacrifice style and power.

Nucleus J1 is one of the big-time power bulls of the entire sale. His tremendous power is very evident in his data with a 110 WW ratio off of a first calf heifer and a 110 ADG ratio over an 88-day gain test. His exceptional pre and post weaning growth is going to mean more pounds and more dollars in your pocket when it comes time to sell. He isn’t a bull you’re going to want to put on heifers but if you have a set of cows that can handle a little more birth weight and you want some extra pounds when it comes time to sell, make sure you put this guy on your list.

Champion J165 carries as much muscle and stoutness as any 5-star calving ease prospect as you’ll find. He’s a direct son of one of our newest additions to the donor pen, Heidi 7203. We purchased 7203 from Jacobson Red Angus on the 2018 ND Red Select sale and right off the bat, she had one of our top heifers of the 2019 calf crop and that heifer in turn had one of our top heifers of the 2021 calf crop. The maternal prowess of this cow family is very evident and look for this guy to sire some heavily muscled, super attractive and maternally focused progeny.

Hammer J15 is our only son of ultra-popular Merlin bull this year. Merlin has been a breed leader in the Red Angus Association over the last few years in terms of total registered progeny and for good reason. He covers all the bases from calving ease, to growth, to maternal, to carcass and his progeny have been widely accepted. The Merlin sired bulls on our sale last year averaged $4700 and this guy fits right in with them with great EPD strength and solid growth. He is out of a moderate 5L Bourne sired dam with excellent maternal characteristics who stuck AI for the second time in as many attempts.

Dodger J247 is the second youngest bull in the sale but doesn’t give up a thing to some of the older bulls. He is a really well-made son out of our 3SCC Escape herdsire and the Escape daughters we have retained are some of the most maternally superior females on the place. They all have great feet, perfect udders with 4 small teats and are as wide as tanks. And when you add this guy’s dam to the equation, J247’s daughters should be some of your best replacements. His mother Daytime Y30 is coming 11 years old but when you see her, you could easily mistake her for a cow half her age. This guy will be a top female maker while increasing performance and maintaining frame size, a trifecta that is hard to beat.

To redeem your credit, bring your receipt for the tags to next year’s sale and we will apply it to your bull purchase. The FCCP provides age, source and genetic verifi cation for calves sired by registered Red Angus bulls. Cattle enrolled in the FCCP are accepted into the exclusive Choice+ and G.O. Red grids. The FCCP yellow tags’ are recognized by buyers nationwide and return a premium for Red Angus calves enrolled in the program. The Allied Access program provides age and source verifi cation for commercial cattlemen whose bull battery does not exclusively contain registered Red Angus bulls. Whether you are utilizing multiple sire breeds or halfblood bulls, enrolling in Allied Access demonstrates to buyers that you are taking an extra step in marketing your calves and adding value throughout the production chain. To enroll in the FCCP or Allied Access, contact the Red Angus marketing department. Enrollment is simple and free of charge.

Larson’s Lost River Livestock SimAngus Bulls Lots 50-52 Full ET Brothers
When we started to pursue adding Simmental to our line-up, we knew we wanted to bring in some of the breeds most popular and proven genetics. We saw purchasing embryos as a way to quickly and economically do this and the TJ 38W cow was a donor that quickly rose to the top of our list. Her tremendous production record and industry-wide acceptance led us to purchase the embryos that resulted in these 3 full brothers. Their sire goes back to one of the most popular Red Angus bulls currently going, 9 Mile Franchise, who is known for his ultra-attractive and maternally superior offspring and the cross of these 2 bloodlines has really clicked. These three full brothers are going to produce very attractive, high growth offspring and their daughters are going to be flat awesome.

KBHR High Road has been one of the most popular bulls in the Simmental breed for years now and for good reason when he can produce bulls like this guy. Lindberg J158 is a moderate framed, expressively muscled individual with tremendous EPD strength and is backed by one of the top cows to come out of the Strandberg Angus herd. J158’s dam is the picture of productivity with perfect feet, an excellent udder and is as attractive and big middled as any cow you’ll find. She is the type of cow a guy wishes he had 500 of. With 1509 backing up this bull, you can be sure his daughters will be outstanding and his sons will be some of your most powerful and eye appealing calves.

If your cows can handle a little more birth weight and you demand big, strapping, heavy calves at weaning, make sure you give this guy a hard look. Leonard J180 ET is the result of flushing a beautiful female we purchased from Eichacker Simmentals in SD as a bred heifer. We purchased 3 females on that sale because of the maternal strength and tremendous functionality of the Eichacker herd. We could not be happier with the females we picked up there and this bull is one of the reasons why. He is super powerful with extra frame and muscle and is super square hipped and wide topped. And like the other High Road progeny, he brings great EPD strength to the table with top 30% CE, top 20% BW, top 20% WW and top 20% YW. 50%SM 10%AN Bull BD: 2/14/21

Easy Street J96 is easily one of the longest bodied bulls in the entire sale and has been a top bull since day one. He is super square hipped when you get behind him and is wide end to end. With his length and thickness, he’s definitely going to put pounds on a set of feeder calves. And if his dam is an indicator of things to come, this guy’s daughters are going to be super attractive with top-notch udders.

Sanders J172 is another high-octane Heisman son with extra frame and muscle expression. He’s one of the top gaining bulls in the pen, gaining nearly 4 lbs/day for a ratio of 116. The Heisman progeny true growth cattle with power and style. J172 will definitely add pounds to a set of calves and his daughters should make excellent mama cows as his dam is a very well-made cow with a nice tight little udder who brings in a calf every year that weans off at a high percentage of her body weight.

The Decision to add Simmental New to the sale this year, we are offering a selection of Simmental influenced bulls. We chose to introduce Simmentals for a number of reasons, but chief among them is to give our customers who have used many generations of Gelbvieh a second option to introduce some heterosis. Simmental is a natural choice to do so, because they are a high red meat yield breed, similar to Gelbvieh and they cross well with many breeds. These Simmental bulls are not a replacement for our Gelbvieh, but simply another option for crossing on both your higher percentage Gelbvieh or your Red or Black Angus cattle.

Leading off our bred female division is a purebred Gelbvieh heifer we are very excited about. Nellie H202 is an absolutely stunning female with tremendous EPD, pedigree strength and offers a ton of mating flexibility. Look closely at her top 1% MARB EPD of 0.63. There are only 28 other active purebred females in the entire Gelbvieh breed with a MARB EPD that high. Her dam is also one of our top cows and is on our short list of potential donors for this spring. Check out her big time Gunner son who sells as lot 26 in this sale. Our excitement about the potential of this female is matched by our excitement about the calf she is carrying. She is due February 16, 2022 carrying a purebred Gelbvieh, homo black, homo polled calf sired by JOB Danell Pay Pal 12H and will have a calf at side on sale day. This will be the only opportunity to acquire any Pay Pal progeny in 2022 and this calf could easily pay for its mother.

Lot 82 This female likely won’t blow you away with frame size but is absolutely stunning from every other angle. Heidi H74 is as feminine and tight necked as any show heifer with the depth and natural width to produce highly sought-after progeny. She comes from the famed line of Heidi cows at Jacobson Red Angus and is sired by the popular and outcross Collier Finished Product. H74’s dam entered our donor program this past spring and is one of the soundest footed and easiest keeping Red Angus cows we own. H74 is due March 9, 2022 carrying a heifer calf sired by Bieber CL Stockmarket E119 ET. The Stockmarket progeny have been some of the highest selling Red Angus cattle in the country over the last year and this heifer calf could easily pay for her mother.

Lakota H132 ET is out of our beautiful D26 donor making her a maternal sister to Lakota G64, the high selling heifer from our 2021 sale going to Ressler Land and Cattle for $7100. Ressler’s’ have told us how much they like the G64 female and a picture of her nursing her monster heifer calf even made the back cover of their 2022 bull sale catalog. The genetics here are about as proven and predictable as can be so buy with confidence. H132 is due February 15, 2022 carrying a bull calf sired by Bieber CL Stockmarket E119 ET and will have a calf at side on sale day.
