BULL FEEDING & CARE
Lone Oak Cattle would like to take this opportunity to extend a huge “THANK YOU” to Terry Chapman, Travis Allen, and all of the Kirkwood Beef Students! Year after year we continually hear praises from customers on how easily the bulls handle. The fall bulls arrived at Kirkwood in early September and the yearlings arrived in early October., and have been fed a ration to gain 3 pounds/hd/day. Weights were taken approximately every 30 days throughout the feeding period. Thank you once again to the crew for the feeding, care, and preparation of the bulls! A special shout out to Carson Frye and Josh Darbyshire for clipping the bulls and helping get them pictured!
NOTES
If the pedigree says black homo-D, that means homozygous black by DNA sample. More information on Page 4.
Fall scrotals taken on 2/2/2023. Actuals are printed on 18-month bulls and adjusted on yearlings.
Bulls sell with genomic enhanced EPDs. GE-EPDs combines the accuracy of a DNA test and the information of individual, pedigree, and progeny performance into one, easy-to-use number.
TRUCKING
Purchaser will receive a $100 discount per bull hauled away on sale day or anytime in the following week. Lone Oak Cattle will feed and care for the bulls free of charge for 14 days from sale day. After 14 days, buyer will pay $4 per bull per day until picked up or trucking arrangements are made. Free delivery for the first 150 miles, or to a central location. All bulls must be delivered or picked up by May 1st.

CCattlemen & Cattlewomen,
Welcome to our 11th Annual Production Sale! We would be honored if you would take the time to consider our genetics! Our family will stand behind these cattle and work with you as we strive to produce a product that is accepted industry-wide, and is profitable for you and your family!
The genetics offered are the result of 29 years of experience in the cow business, a lifetime in the cattle business, and thousands of hours and miles spent searching for what’s next. We continue to invest heavily in the genetics that we believe to be best for the industry, and ultimately for you! Along the way, we’ve built relationships with some outstanding cattlemen and women across the country. These relationships are such a blessing! I can’t imagine being in a better industry… getting to do what we love, surrounded by those we love!
So many programs today focus only on what the registration paper tells them and tend to single trait select. This mentality usually forgets about some other VERY economically relevant traits. We try not to gain in one area, only to lose in another. It can happen quite easily if we forget to keep the whole picture in mind. Things like structure, base width, hoof shape, teat and udder attachment, body capacity, muzzle width, and most of all, fertility! No other single trait comes anywhere close in importance to fertility! She has one job, and needs to do it in a timely fashion. Forgiveness is for kids, not cows!
Input costs continue to soar but so does the demand for beef! Calves are bringing back around $1000/head and yearlings 1400+.With much care and planning, a good commercial cow,
is still a force to be reckoned with, when it comes to ROI on marginal acres.
If you use Lone Oak sires, we will provide you with a competitive bid, or better yet, buy your calves back. Several of our customers currently take advantage of this opportunity and we are glad to feed out genetics that we know a little something about! Please let us know your plans and we will be glad to assist however possible.
The offering this year will sell in typical auction format. Please register for a buyers number upon arrival and pick up a sale order/supplement sheet. Video monitors will be set up and videos will play while animals sell. Live lots will be penned outside for viewing prior to the sale. Videos of the bulls will be available approximately two weeks prior to sale day at loneoakcattleiowa.com.
Please feel free to visit with us prior to sale day. We would really like to hear about your herd so that we can offer suggestions as to which bulls/females may be the best fit for your goals and needs. Thanks for your consideration!

Female Offering
OPEN HEIFERS // LOTS 65-90
Lots 65-90 are spring born open heifers right out of the heart of our herd. We are offering a few for your appraisal. They were all raised right here, both from AI and our natural service sires. They will be offered for sale in small groups, and the buyer will have the option to load these up and haul them home on sale day, or leave them with us to be cared for and bred. If the buyer chooses to leave them, after settlement, they will be turned back in with our own, synchronized and AI bred around May 20th. They then will be exposed to our proven calving ease bulls for 65 days. Generally, around 60% of the females will settle AI. In the event that a heifer fails to conceive, Lone Oak Cattle will refund the purchase price of that female. The buyer will be responsible for picking up bred heifers between Sept. 1st and 15th. An additional $600/head will be due at that time.
BRED HEIFERS // LOTS 91-100
Lots 91-100 are are 2-year-old bred heifers. They were pasture exposed to Topp Standout 1072, LEM Gladiator, and Chestnut Eyes on You. These three herd sires represent a large portion of our future here at Lone Oak! Buy with confidence!
DAM OF MERIT
Great bulls come from great cows! Rapid changes in genomics and EPDs make bull selection more challenging all the time. Structural soundness, however, is a trait that should always be priority one. We select only the top 30% of our bull crop to become breeding bulls based on birthweight, conformation, disposition, and overall performance. The sale bulls will all be from solid, good uddered, hardworking cows. Each year the AGA recognizes programs with cows performing at the highest level. To become a Dam of Merit a cow must wean at least three calves with a weaning weight ratio of at least 101, all within a 365 day window, without falling behind. To become a Dam of Distinction she must do this 8 times! Lone Oak Cattle was recognized by the AGA as #1 in the state of Iowa for Dams of Merit and Dams of Distinction.
BRED COWS // LOTS 101-118
Lots 101 -118 were pasture exposed to many of the same herd sires that the sale bulls are sired by. Cows due from sale day until 5/24/23. Over 60% of these females are by cows that have raised a sale bull, or have raised one themselves!
