Welcome Friends and Customers, We would like to invite you to our 12th annual Bull Sale here at the Home Place. This is a great set of both Balancer and Gelbvieh that are developed and bred to work and hold up in this tough old western environment that we run in. While putting this letter together, on a morning that got down to -12 with a stiff breeze, it made me realize it is hard to put a value on these hard working females that know how to get a calf up and going. Just this morning on my early check, I came up on two good mama cows that had calved in the stalks. Both of them had gotten their calves up and nursing in a not so friendly weather situation. That is what we expect of our cattle here and they sure do their job for us. We have a great uddered and super dispositioned set of mothers that sure make our life enjoyable. We don’t have the time or patience here to nurse calves or get run over by a mother that is too aggressive. The cows are summered on hard grass and wintered and calved out in the cornstalks and after feed. The best of the bull calf crop is sorted off after weaning and then again each time we work the boys so we try to bring the best for this sale. New to the sale this year, we are pleased to announce that we will have Jon Flack serve as auctioneer and hope that you get to visit with him on sale day. Jon sold our Female Sale this fall and folks sure liked him and the job he did. The bulls are developed for longevity on a high roughage ration consisting of ground alfalfa, silage protein supplement and a small amount of cracked corn. We know it is fun to look at fat bulls but believe that developing them on a slow steady pace is better both for you, our valued customer, and also for the good of the cattle. As always, we stand behind these bulls and want them to go out and do a great job for you. Any questions can be directed to Gail or me. If we don’t have an answer for you, we will do our best to get one. Regards, Steve and Gail Steve and Gail Fiolkoski – SEGA Gelbvieh 16509 WCR 86 Pierce, Colorado 80650 Gail’s cell: 970-590-4862 Steve’s cell: 970-381-0600
Homozygous Black data will be on supplement sheet.

Out of a first calf heifer and the 622 bull that we sent to Laramie with a group of heifers. We didn’t get many 622D calves, but they come easy and grow.

This Alp 8A son from Tom Brink at Integrated Beef Genetics is one solid bull. He is big ribbed and very stylish. Tom runs a few good cows here with us. Will have EPD’s on supplement sheet available on sale day.
“For the past ten years, we have purchased SEGA balancer bulls. We have been very happy with the quality and the customer service that Steve and Gail provide. They produce bulls that have good temperament and are easy to handle, and they stand behind their stock 100%. In the past, we have had SEGA bulls and bulls from other producers on our commercial cow herd at the same time and you could always pick out the calves from the balancers! They are stocky, hardy and really pack on the pounds!. We now run strictly SEGA balancer bulls on our commercial herd and we would highly recommend them to anyone that wants to add weight and thickness to their calf crop.” Open Range Livestock Jon Flack & Cari Graybill

Lakeview’s 922X cow sure does a great job every year. This Rommel son is a big framed stout bull.
“We have been working with Steve and Gail for the past fifteen years or so and must be pleased because we are still working with them and plan to continue to do so in the future. Their Genetics works for us under our range conditions and management system. The EPDs help us achieve the type of animal we are wanting to produce and help predict the average performance of the bull’s offspring. They are producing well rounded animals and not selecting on single traits which I feel is important. I appreciate them not over conditioning their bulls and heifers that they sell. Allowing those animals to fit into the herd or do their job immediately. SEGA Gelbvieh really does put their customer first and try their best to solve any problems that might happen. When they say “we’ve got your front and back covered” they mean it. It is a pleasure to work with them”. Jack and Lorna Sifers 7 Box Ranch

Care of your yearling bulls: We would encourage you to take a little extra special care of your investment(s). Yearling bulls are still growing and we all expect a lot out of them. Limit the breeding season and number of cows that they will have to service. Do not turn young bulls out in the same pasture with mature bulls. A yearling in good condition can be expected to service 15-25 cows in his first season, but he will need to be brought in early and given a little extra care after all that work. Yearlings will start losing their teeth at 15 to 18 months of age and need a little TLC if you expect them to grow and develop to their full potential. A little extra care up front will make your purchases last a lot longer and also make for healthier, better bulls down the trail! When you first turn your bulls out, watch them and make sure that they are getting the job at hand done. Also, if they start getting a little run down rest them or give them a little extra energy, it will pay dividends in the long run!
Thanks We owe a big THANKS to our consulting veterinarian Shawn Bott DVM for keeping the herd healthy. To Randy and Lori Stevens and kids for all their help getting the cattle ready and putting the sale book together. Lyndsey Stevens for her wonderful video presentation.
Thank You for Coming!
