Will you be welcomed into my hideaway? A million pistols couldn’t shatter my shell. Through dark tunnels of realisation, Draw freedom from the escape of fantasy. Light bleeds through the swaying palm leaves, Breathing has never felt so easy. I’m there again, staring into the tranquil surf, Every crash soothes my hurt. Dazed with love for the sun, But impatient to lie under a blanket of stars. Skin a shy shade of burnt caramel, You’ll never know all the places I go alone.
9
My dreams projected onto the sky, The warm breeze tickles my salted fair waves. If I had wings I would never touch the ground, Unless I could swim in the distorted sound. The bluest pool effortless, a marbled mosaic, And I float further into a peaceful abundance.

until you knock
I’ll wait for you there in the place we met, I promise I am not the dark hearted spirit I appeared. I have grown to realise that timing is key, And I believe I learnt from you and you did from me. For now our happiness is radiant in our separate lives, But the next chapter could lead us to reunite.
I parted with this beautiful place, but not forever, Every day I am closer to returning. I miss those kind eyes and that infectious smile, I never thought I would see again but I did. Growing fonder and fonder but further and further, It’s no mistake our paths wish to keep crossing.
If I build a sandcastle big enough, could I stay? If forever isn’t allowed, I’ll just wash away. Towards a new adventure to see new flora, Friendly faces without a weight on their back. Truthful bliss emanating from their words, Regret is somewhere beyond the distant mountains.

A pretty face with an ugly heart stands behind the door in view. A dancing thread of jealousy and malice flashes through her smile behind every explosion of opinion. Not many people would be brave enough to stand up to her; the shuddering anticipation of her reaction doesn’t bear thinking about.

She is a firework in a sky of stars. A firework is observed for a few moments but a star shines forever. How do you handle a firework safely? The uncomfortably loud spark of colour which you pretend to enjoy.

How can content and exhilaration be drawn in with one breath and exhaled to a facing with death? The dancing bones we had shared a room with in sweet ignorance. Our intentions to enjoy the music, the intruder’s intentions to shoot us all dead. A captivating flash of light followed by… firecrackers? My tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth, dry and shaking now as my lip furiously tries to open to force out the words “Run!” My hands are sweating and I knew two seconds ago those bangs were not firecrackers but bullets, and now we are running for our lives.

I waded through a swamp of bodies with complete focus on the exit I must now use every ounce of power to get to. The volume of screams is increasing and panic hits hundreds of concertgoers as they drop to the floor. The others who drop are now gone forever and I fear I am next.

I would grow into the person I am now in the eighteen years to come, and yet my ignorance. My ignorance to the varnished front door, which had a wood grain comparable to burnt toast.
