I turned to two of my closest friends to accompany me on a five-night investigation that found the three of us getting up close and personal with some of the hospital’s resident spirits.
I am generally pretty skeptical when it comes to claims of locations being haunted, so I made sure to ask around first. The Klinge Brothers had gotten results there, and my friend Scott Porter of the Tennessee Wraith Chasers told me that the case was legit. As with so many places, however, it was tough to separate truth from fiction when it came down to some of the stories that surrounded OSPH.

lthough it was never a conscious choice that I made, at some point on my paranormal journey, I somehow became the ‘Haunted Hospitals’ guy. As far as I am concerned, that’s just fine and dandy. Having written several books about ghosts and their relationship to the medical profession, then served as an on-camera subject matter ‘expert’ for the TV series Haunted Hospitals, I have greatly enjoyed investigating some extremely haunted houses of healing (and a few others that didn’t quite live up to their reputation). All of this meant that when Ronnie Dee, the owner of the nowinfamous Old South Pittsburg Hospital (OSPH), offered me the opportunity to visit for a few days and research its haunting

What we can say with confidence is that after it first opened its doors in 1959, OSPH spent the better part of forty years taking care of the sick and injured, before discharging its last patient in 1998. Stories abound of the hospital having been built on Native American land (where in America isn’t?) and the confluence of several ley lines. The proximity of underground water and a nearby mountain have also been put forward as possible explanations for the paranormal activity that numerous eyewitnesses have reported experiencing down through the years.
