Anthony covers box office, breaking film news, awards-season features and festival news. His first job in the film industry was at Savoy Pictures’ headquarters in New York where he worked in film distribution. In the summer of 1999, he was hired by Variety and moved to Los Angeles, and remained in the newsroom covering numerous parts of the industry, including box office, for about a decade. Prior to arriving at Deadline in the fall of 2011, where he co-edited the site’s sister publication AwardsLine, Anthony covered the box office beat for Indiewire’s Thompson on Hollywood. He also co-produced Matt Walsh’s film A Better You. MATT GROBAR ASSOCIATE EDITOR, NIGHTS & WEEKENDS
Matt joined the editors’ desk in March 2021 after five years as AwardsLine’s Assistant Editor. In that role, he contributed to the coverage and editing of the magazines throughout the year, focusing on artist interviews revolving around awards season and its big nights including the Oscars and Emmys. Matt also manages the Production Value video series, which spotlights the premier craft talent working in film and TV. He also is part of Deadline’s festival studio team at the likes of Sundance, Tribeca and Toronto. Before Deadline he worked at UTA, 8thDay Pictures and Infinity Management International. Peter, who joined Deadline in 2017, is a respected veteran TV journalist who previously worked at UK-based Broadcast, where after starting there in 2013 rose to News Editor responsible for putting together the weekly magazine as well as breaking daily news. Before that he was deputy editor of Television Business International magazine. He covers the television industry from Deadline’s Los Angeles bureau.
YOUR PANELISTS PAWEŁ MYKIETYN Polish composer Mykietyn is the founder, and clarinetist, of ensemble Nonstrom, which specializes in contemporary music. He made his debut at the age of 22 at the Warsaw Autumn Festival with La Strada and his 1995 composition 3 For 13 was commissioned by Polish Radio and he featured in the first under 30 category at the UNESCO International Composers Rostrum in Paris. He has written three symphonies, a piano concerto and a variety of choral works and chamber music for a raft of significant Polish film scores. His credits include Poland’s 2023 Oscar International Feature submission EO, Walk with Angels, 33 Scenes from Life and Titanium White. MICHAEL ABELS Michael Abels has had three

collaborations with horror maestro Jordan Peele: Get Out, Oscarshortlisted Us and Nope. For Us, he won the World Soundtrack Award, the Jerry Goldsmith Award, a Critics Choice nomination, an Image Award nomination and multiple critics’ awards. Abel’s orchestral works have been performed by the Chicago Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra and many more. He is the co-founder of the Composers Diversity Collective, an advocacy group to increase visibility of composers of color in film, game and streaming media. Upcoming projects include the ballet for concert band Falling Sky for Butler University, At War with Ourselves for the Kronos Quartet and Hugh Jackman starrer Bad Education for HBO.

YOUR PANELISTS CONTINUED BENJAMIN WALLFISCH Benjamin Wallfisch has worked on more than 75 feature films including IT, IT Chapter 2, Shazam!, and The Invisible Man. He was co-composer for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner: 2049 with Hans Zimmer and he has received Golden Globe, BAFTA, Grammy and Emmy nominations for his work. To date, the movies he has scored have grossed more than $2.5 billion worldwide. Additional credits include Hidden Figures, Annabelle: Creation, Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and this year’s Thirteen Lives, starring Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell and Joel Edgerton. ROBIN PECKNOLD Singer-songwriter Robin Pecknold is best known as the singer and principal songwriter for indie folk band Fleet Foxes. The band made a new original song, featuring Tim Bernades, for Amazon Prime’s new wildlife documentary Wildcat, about the story of a young PTSD-diagnosed British veteran on his journey into the Amazon. Composer, conductor and two-time Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat has more than 100 scores under his belt. He has worked with legendary French directors such as Philippe de Broca, Francis Girod and Jaques Audiard. He’s scored films such as Syriana, Birth, The Queen and The Painted Veil as well as Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution and David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which earned him an Oscar nomination. He’s also composed numerous scores, ranging from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2 as well as Terence Malik’s Tree of Life, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and Morten Tyldum’s The Imitation Game. In 2018, Desplat won an Oscar for his work on Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, and he’s also recently collaborated with that director again on passion project Pinocchio. DIANE WARREN Diane Warren is considered one of the most prolific contemporary songwriters of recent times. She’s written for artists including Elton John, Tina Turner, Barbara Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack and Roy Orbison. She’s penned a raft of number-one songs including Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time”, Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” and Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”. She’s won a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe awards and his been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The DIANE WARREN

Wildcat Wildcat follows the emotional and inspiring story of a young veteran on his journey into the Amazon. Once there, he meets a young woman running a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center, and his life finds new meaning as he is entrusted with the life of an orphaned baby ocelot. Spirited Each Christmas Eve, the Ghost of Christmas Present (Will Ferrell) selects one dark soul to be reformed by a visit from three spirits. But this season, he picked the wrong Scrooge. Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds) turns the tables on his ghostly host until Present finds himself re-examining his own past, present and future. Spirited takes Charles Dickens’ classic tale A Christmas Carol and gives it a musical and comedic twist. Sean Anders directs from a script written by John Morris.

Pinocchio Guillermo del Toro directs this warm and wild stop-motion animated adaptation of the classic story Pinocchio from Carlo Collodi with Mark Gustafson. It’s a project Del Toro has nurtured for years and marks his first animated feature film. Set in Italy during the reign of Benito Mussolini, Pinocchio filters the original Italian novel through Del Toro’s typically gothic lens. Woodcarver Geppetto gets more than he bargains for when his wish to bring a wooden boy to life comes true.

Tell It Like A Woman Tell It Like a Woman is a feature film made up of seven short film segments about women, directed by filmmakers including Catherine Hardwicke and Maria Sole Tognazzi. The cast includes Jennifer Hudson, Pauletta Washington, Cara Delevingne, Margherita Buy, Marcia Gay Harden, Eva Longoria, Leonor Varela, Jacqueline Fernandez and Anne Watanabe. The project is a result of a collaboration with nonprofit film production company We Do It Together, which advocates for gender equality.
