Thank you for attending Deadline’s Sound & Screen. The evening’s performances and panels are a bright light on the arts and the importance they hold in enriching our lives —particularly those of our youths. Led by a coalition of educators, entrepreneurs, and arts and music leaders, Californians for Arts and Music Education in Public Schools is a proposed ballot for the November 2022 statewide ballot that would increase arts and music education for students in PreK-12 public schools in California. + Arts education has been shown to support cognitive development. + Linked to supporting students’ mental well-being, building emotional awareness and fostering empathy. + Studies have found strong correlations between both math and reading skills. + Students from low-income backgrounds with an arts education are less likely to drop out of school. This measure would: + Dedicate additional funds to arts and music education in public schools – without raising taxes. + Require accountability and transparency measures, including requiring schools and school districts to submit annual, public reports verifying how funds were used. + Improve equity with additional funding for schools that serve low-income families.
