DEAD WALK DESIGNS LTD
We are a creative design and build company, based at the Granby in Weymouth. With over 20 years experience building attractions and events, we have developed a wide range of creative skillsets, ranging from concept illustration, 3D design, sculpture, scenic painting, prop making and more. For further details on what we do, we have a ‘Design & Build’ document which outlines the various processes we work with to create bespoke, one of a kind projects, which can be found via the following link: https://issuu.com/deadwalkdesigns/docs/dwd_case_study_-_design_build_process_september?fr=xIAEoAT3_NTU1

COMPETITIVE SOCIALISING & ANCHOR VENUES
Before the popularity of online purchasing, towns and shopping centres would tend to have an ‘anchor’ store, a place which attracts a wide range of customers, who would then in turn spend time in the surrounding area, Debenhams being one of the more recognised brands throughout the UK. As brick and mortar stores have diminished, these anchors have disappeared, and we have found in areas around the UK that retail units are incorporating alternative activities to continue the customer draw. One trend we have seen grow exponentially over the last couple of years is competitive socialising. As younger generations tend less to drink alcohol on nights out, social venues add a variety of games and activities as additional revenue streams, which helps to keep customers onsite of an evening, but also allows for activities for families in the day time.
The following pages show our ideas for individual activities which we plan to build into one multi activity venue, some experiences could also be suited to a stand alone attraction.
THEMED BAR
LOCATION: HOPE SQUARE, WEYMOUTH, UK
Weymouth has many bars and clubs, with some making extra effort to stand out, although a fully themed bar, with themed drinks and food offerings would work well, particularly for groups, functions and during the busy summer period.

GAMES BAR
Weymouth has a number of arcades, although these tend to have games geared more towards young children or fruit machines appealing to an older generation. A new trend of retro arcades have become incredibly popular. In a multi use venue a retro arcade area would be a way to add extra activities and could be easily grown or changed with new games over time.
Also including table top board games, creating an inclusive hang out for those who shy away from busy pubs and clubs, with potential for additional activities, gaming competitions and events.

ESCAPE ROOMS
An Escape Room is an attraction trend which has boomed over the last few years and we have found our selves working on many installs around the country.
These tend to be unique stories/themes to the space and are a relatively low cost set up. Weymouth does have an Escape Room offering, although we feel the experiences will differ enough in both themes, story and execution to co-exist, with our games being more focussed on theming and SFX.

AN EXCITING ATTRACTION FOR WEYMOUTH
Sticks and Bones will be a unique attraction for Weymouth, providing a multi activity social space, with arcade games, board games and escape rooms accompanied by food and drinks.
Events can be held throughout the year to generate interest in the venue and various clubs (kids club, chess club) can provide revenue in the quieter periods of the year. What will make our venue stand out from other competitors is our ability to design and build well themed environments, much like a film set which would be an attraction in itself.
To explain the name, ‘Sticks’ as in joysticks on an arcade machine which represents the digital offering, and ‘Bones’ another name used for dice which would represent the more traditional activities at the venue.

THE GALLEY
There are many great attractions in Weymouth, although not many set up for wet weather, and the commercial F&B offering in Weymouth is lacking creative variety, particularly for younger locals.
The Galley is the ideal location for our new venture, and upon first viewing we were able to picture how we could adapt our concept to suit the space.
An important part of our new venture is that it is themed and brings customers to ‘another world’ and as such we would like to transform the space.
That being said, we are also aware of the surrounding buildings and history, so would look into ideas which compliments the existing architecture, such as the stonework.

SPACE 1 - EXTERIOR BEER GARDEN
Hope Square is a great location to enjoy a drink in the sunshine, and we are excited to create a welcoming space for our guests. As this would be quite prominent throughout the historical square we plan to be sparing with themed features, using very subtle hints of what is inside and aim to keep the general look complimentary to the surroundings.
We would like to add moveable planters, a variety of seating and tables and potentially a servery from which we can serve drinks, ice cream and bbq food during the summer. Perhaps introducing over sized out door games or building game board into the furniture. The building itself we plan to re-paint in sympethetic tones.

SPACE 2 - THE MAIN LOUNGE
We imagine the main entrance lounge area to be warm and inviting, with low lighting, and fire effect lighting.
We will take inspiration from various movies and videogames to create our designs, with this area leaning towards Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings for the types of props and decoration we would use, this would work perfectly with the existing stonework meaning no need to adapt the make up of the space.
This space will also be used as our main events area, with a retractable projector screen which can also be playing films in the background during opening hours.

SPACE 3 - DIGITAL LOUNGE
The old restaurant area would work perfectly as the ‘arcade’ area of the venue. When we say arcade, we are not talking about big flashy machines, loud jumbled noise and gambling machines. More relaxed games in a much lower key environment. This could be our main year round revenue after F&B, with options to charge per play on the arcades, and to rent out a gaming booth with friends to play console games.
We would like to go a little further with the theming in here, perhaps a touch of sci-fi.

SPACE 4 - BAR & KITCHEN
We are unsure if we will offer hot food from the get go, depending on set up costs for the kitchen. Perhaps developing the menu and offering further down the line. The bar will offer traditional drinks, coffee and cocktails, along with themed cocktails based on various videogames and movie references. We would theme the bar to look like a merchant trade stand, with a variety of props & trinkets surrounding the bar. Perhaps a hint of Sci-Fi/Steam Punk could be incorporated into the design.

SPACE 5 - ESCAPE ROOMS
What makes the Galley work well for us is the opportunity to utilise the upstairs store rooms as a potential Escape Room offering.
Being a specialist service we offer as Dead Walk Designs, it makes sense to show off our skills within the venue and really go to town on the theming and special effects.
We plan to rotate the experiences over time, perhaps replacing 1 room evey year, to keep things fresh and exciting.
By being clever with our set up, we can work to a basic template which means construction of new experiences can carry on in our workshops, minimising disruption during install.
