GREENSBORO, AL

THE PARADISO ROSA A LUXURIOUS PARADISE FOR MOTHERS AND MOTHER’S TO BE, THIS COMPLEX WAS CREATED TO MAKE THINGS A LITTLE EASIER ON THE LCOAL MOTHERS OF ALABAMA.

What is Paradiso Rosa?

18

Mother’s deserve pampering no matter where they live. This women’s complex center included a space for workshops, a fitness center, private yoga studio, work cafe, lounges, locker room, and premier babysitting. This complex cetner for mothers and mothers to be helps support them mentally, physically, intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally. The complex center is a place for them to work on health, wellness, happiness, and tranquility. A place carefully tailored to support and empower women. A place where women literally feel like they are in paradise. The center is located in Greensboro, Al.

PROJECT

Us groups of students went to Greensboro AL, and took physical measurements of a 1837 Southern Plantation home. As a class we then transfered all our recorded information into AutoCAD, creating construction documents. We had the choice to design something we feel the state of alabama needed, and turn this 1837 southern plantation house into our new design. Some walls, door, and other architectual elements were not allowed to be moved or replaced.

HAIR/ NAIL SALON

CONCEPT & RESEARCH

The concept for The Paradiso Rosa is paradise but specifically the pink sunet. The sunet inspires the warm feeling it brings on the inside and outside of our body. Throught the design you will feel like you are in paradise. The asethetic is 1980s art deco with a modern twist. In the space texture was a key element. Textures translate emtions and feelings, and help create more of a comfort zone. The pink velvet wallpaper used in the lounge was used to create a soft impact. The design is overflowing with the color pink. Pink clams and reassures our emtional energies, alleviating feelings of anger, aggression, resentment, abandonment and neglect. Studies have confirmed that exposure to large amount of pink can have a calming effect on nerves. Pink is alsso associated with love, kindness, and femininity. The rosy pink palette was chosen to appeal to millennial mothers. 19

EDUCATION

Located In Norfolk, Virgina PROBLEM STATEMENT

NEXT University is a learning institution located in Norfolk, Virginia. The founders of NEXT University believed in changing the paradigm of student learning. As a result, they want to utilize new approaches and push the boundaries with the design of their new academic building to allow learning to happen everywhere. Additionally, a key goal for the project is to increase student engagement and learning retention because of the new environment. The goal is to give students access to premier education, active and diverse class room experiences and more faculty interaction. Students should be learning in and outside the class room. Group and induvial spaces for learning should be incorporated, and easy to access. Classroom rearrangement should be easy and quick with mobility furniture.

FACULTY CONNECTION HUB

CONCEPT & RESEARCH

The Design for NEXT University is inspired by a sunburst. Sunburst are bright colors and full of natural lighting, which are two key factors in this design. The colors used will be bright reds and oranges, with greys and white to tone it down. Bright colors stimulate creativity, while taking away fear and anxiety. There will be many large windows to allow natural lighting. The outdoors also stimulates creative thinking, so a major focus is allowing as much natural lighting as possible. While having a modern feel, the space will still remain inviting and comfortable. The chose of furniture will be comfortable and allow mobility. The open space will allow students to reconfigure the space, also providing space for group work and for induvial work. The goal is for the environment to make the students feel comfortable, confident, creative. 27

Luxury Leather Store CONCEPT

To design a luxury leather store located inside of a resort on a private island off the main island of Antigua. The design of the store is inspired by a snake. Snakes are found in tropical regions. Snakes can form themselves into many different forms, straight, curved, circular, they represent movement. Snake skin is commonly shown in fashion along with the actual figure of the snake (Gucci). The store will use color inspired by the snake, gold, browns, whites/creams, and black with some pops of green and red. The use of line is important for this design, showing curves and straight lines in the walls, furniture and flooring. Texture will be shown in the use of snake skin, choices of fabric and flooring. The space will be dark and intimate creating a sense of drama, but enough lighting to view the pieces easily. The entire atmosphere will feel luxurious. 43
