[PROGRESSION OF DESIGN CONCEPTS]
[DESIGN AGENDA] “DRAWING UPON THE ESSENCE OF A PROTEST, WHEREBY PEOPLE GATHER TOGETHER, THE DESIGN WILL PROVIDE A SOCIAL MEETING AREA FOR STUDENTS THAT ENCOURAGES GROUP INVOLVEMENT”.
THE INITIAL DESIGNS ENCLOSED THE SPACE TOO MUCH, RESTRICTING MOVEMENT AND ALSO BLOCKING MANY OF THE VIEWS WHICH WE INITIALLY PRESENT ON THE SITE.
THE DECISION TO EXCAVATE THE SITE NOT ONLY RESOLVED THE ISSUE WITH THE WIND, IT ALSO CREATED A FORUM-LIKE LANDSCAPE WHEREBY PEOPLE GATHER IN A CENTRAL LOCATION WITH ONLOOKERS WHO VIEW FROM THE BOUNDARIES OF THE SITE.
[PROGRESSION OF DESIGN CONCEPTS] DUE TO THE EXISTENCE OF ALREADY ESTABLISHED PATHS OF MOVEMENT THROUGH THE SITE, I ADDED A SUSPENDED WALKWAY OVER THE SITE, CREATING A ‘TREE-TOP WALK’ SENSATION.
[DESIGN AGENDA] “DRAWING UPON THE ESSENCE OF A PROTEST, WHEREBY PEOPLE GATHER TOGETHER, THE DESIGN WILL PROVIDE A SOCIAL MEETING AREA FOR STUDENTS THAT ENCOURAGES GROUP INVOLVEMENT”.
REFLECTIVE OF THE DESIGN AGENDA THAT SEEKS TO ENCOURAGE GROUP INVOLVEMENT, THE SEATING WAS DESIGNED SO THAT ITS FORM WAS TAILORED TO STUDENT INTERACTION.

THE MODEL WAS FORMED THROUGH A VARIETY OF MATERIALS INCLUDING BOX BOARD, CARDBOARD, FOAM BOARD AND BALSA WOOD. THE MODEL WAS DESIGNED AT SCALE 1:200 IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE PLACED IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SITE MODEL WHICH WILL SHOW MUCH OF THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT.
