Robyn Shaw Zine TAG ‘I decided to call my zine TAG as i wanted something simplistic and bold but easy to read so it will catch your attention. I wanted to make it apparent that the concept is identity, i felt that TAG was appropriate as it refers to everyone been tagged or labelled by society.’ – Robyn Shaw.
Behind the Scenes – Sketchbook work ‘I had the idea of styling a model in 4 different trends to reflect how people show identity through fashion. I chose trends which I think are easy to see in Leeds and are trends which many people reflect. Androgynous, swag, grunge and vintage were shown with the characteristics of what that type of person would typically be like, this was achieved by perfecting the details of each look, the accessories, hair, makeup and poses all reflect the personas and individuality’ – Robyn Shaw.
Harvey Nichols Photoshoot ‘I continued my theme of personal identity through in to my Harvey Nichols photoshoot. I chose to use two models who reflect opposites externally and each have a defining identity. I chose to focus on identity through race and have that as a focal point in the images. The styling was important to get each outfit to compliment the other, i wanted to link them somehow but with different items. I chose to stick with a monochromatic scheme through the clothes as my zine takes the minimalist approach. I also wanted to connect the models through the poses they did, i wanted to portray that they may be opposites by visual identity but still connect together with internal identity.’ – Robyn Shaw.
The Zine Robyn Shaw describes the concept behind her zine; ‘The initial research began with a strong concept which I could apply throughout the content of my zine. I decided to choose 'IDENTITY' as I thought it was a subject with many different avenues i could explore. I chose to focus my work on identity within fashion and produce new ideas through my own interpretation.’ ‘The zine consists of photography, interviews, illustrations and a look book insert. I wanted to incorporate as many different creative techniques to show diversity throughout and attract an audience who can appreciate the content. I chose to have a colour theme running throughout and a linear concept to connect together all my pages.’ ‘I decided to call my zine TAG as I wanted something simplistic and bold but easy to read so it will catch your attention. I wanted to make it apparent that the concept is identity, I felt that TAG was appropriate as it refers to everyone been tagged or labelled by society.’
