Ycn Pan Macmillan – Alice in Wonderland Brief

YCN Pan MacMillan – Alice in Wonderland Brief My response to this brief was to create a coming together of analogue and digital techniques to reflect both the historical and contemporary relevance of the story itself. Alice Dear

Initial sketches using water colour and black pen. On the left is my interpretation of chapter two in which Alice grows tall after eating a cake and cries so much that she can swim in her tears. On the right is my cover piece which is representative of the opening scene of the book in which Alice is sitting by a river bank with her sister, bored, when she spots a rabbit which grabs her attention.

My Final illustrations (this page and next). After scanning in I edited them on Photoshop by adjusting Levels and Saturation but mainly focussing on cleaning up lines and filling in colours. I wanted to keep some of the handmade mark making made by the pen lines and the watercolour paint. However I did want her face to look slightly more realistic so I used the Paint Brush tool to add a more skin like colour and highlights. As part of the mandatory requirements I had to create a cover piece with and without the logo/sticker- evidenced on the next page.
