YOUR CAMPUSES

As a result of these significant Highland investments, students at Inverness College UHI benefit from having a top-class learning environment which includes the latest ICT equipment, live work environments, excellent sports and leisure facilities and dedicated research space.

Opened in August 2015, Inverness College UHI’s stateof-the-art campuses at Balloch and Inverness Campus are amongst the newest purpose-built further and higher education facilities in Scotland.

Inverness Campus

Balloch

The majority of courses are taught from the main building at Inverness Campus. This iconic building – now a stand-out feature of the Inverness skyline – was the first to open at the new Inverness Campus site – a 215 acre site developed by economic development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

The building at Balloch is home to the Scottish School of Forestry. Having acquired its site from the Forestry Commission in 1972, the School sits in its own 10 hectare woodland in Balloch, making it the only forestry training provider with its own practical training environment.

Established with the aim of accelerating economic growth in the Highlands, the Campus offers a high quality environment for learning, innovation, collaboration and business development. With over 30 acres of landscaped parkland and a range of facilities including the lochan and outdoor gallery An t-Eilean (the Island), the Campus is for the whole community as well as those studying, living and working on the Campus. The College’s main building itself has been designed with its wide-ranging and comprehensive curriculum in mind. Bright classrooms overlooking the stunning Highland landscape make for inspiring study spaces, and housed in unique copper pods, the lecture theatre, gymnasium and performing arts studio are standout features of the building’s top floor. For students completing engineering, technical and trade related courses, the ground floor contains a network of purpose built facilities including specialist machine, motor vehicle, electrical installation, welding and craft workshops.

Originally a clear-fell site, the area is a designated conservation zone, and over the years its students have contributed to the creation of a diversely populated woodland. This now provides a home for a range of indigenous species and the accompanying wildlife, including the endangered red squirrel. The School’s attractive new larchclad building provides an inspiring modern environment for students, with flexible classrooms and digital training facilities including a unique forestry simulator. Students also have access to first class laboratory facilities at main building at Inverness Campus. In addition, students benefit from the development of the school’s very own arboretum, which it plans to establish at the grounds of the former building Whatever your course of study, you can be certain that you will have an inspiring learning environment and all the quality facilities you need to succeed at Inverness College UHI.

The Mesh

Basic shape It is a simple hexagonal ´wire´shape.

The revised colour palette offers fresh, dynamic and positive blocks of colour that work with the established corporate colours and can reflect the shades of student experience at Inverness College UHI.

It is normally 15% of the PMS Cool grey 11, the stroke is always 0.5 pt.

PMS Cool Gray 11

PMS 249

C: 53 M: 96 Y: 21 K: 11

The colour can change with the design needs, for example, it can be lighter/darker, or even white. Depending on the design, we can also play with its transparency.

C: 62 M: 52 Y: 46 K: 40

A selection of fresh primary colours will be used in conjunction with the two primary colours of the logo.

The Colour PATTERN

The mesh is created by adding next to each other several basic shapes.

Colour shapes are simply built on top of the wire mesh (in pink here for visual purpose only).

It is normally 15% of the PMS Cool grey 11, the stroke is always 0.5 pt.

Each shape has a white stroke of 0.5pt and can be any colour of the IC palette.

The colour can change with the design needs, for example, it can be lighter/darker, or white, it can also be in colour if needs be.

The shapes are based mostly on a hexagon but the shapes can also differ or evolve – just as the students do, working within the guidance of the College, hence...

The mesh pattern is not fixed and should evolve with the design and format requirements of each job.

THE THING THAT IS IMPERATIVE IS THAT THEY MUST ADOPT THEIR STRUCTURE FROM THE WIRE MESH.

Advertising

Due to the range of possible advert dimensions it is not possible to establish fixed guidelines.

A simple and functional Word template has been designed to allow ease of use.

Depending on the size of the advert, the graphic elements must be placed in balance and following the guideline’s implicit direction.

The header consists of the stack runninghead and the basic wire shape (situated in the top right corner). The footer uses the purple band with the IC logo and website url.

inverness.uhi.ac.uk

The proportion of the elements within the template should never be changed, nor the colours.

In order to maximise space, the runninghead ´START TOMORROW TODAY´ will be presented in a single line.

Whenever possible it should highlight a range of ages and backgrounds, reinforcing the concept that Inverness College UHI is a diverse and multi- cultural place in which to develop and study.

The font used will be Arial. A purple band should be placed as a footer and will appear on each slide. The band will hold the IC logo and the website URL.

As BlueFlyer went to press we learned of the recent atrocious attack in Orlando, BBA Aviation’s US home. Fortunately I can confirm that none of our colleagues were killed or injured but many will have friends and loved ones that were sadly involved and our thoughts and prayers are with them. In these testing times I encourage you all to remain vigilant and to look out for one another, both at work and as you go about your daily lives.

Welcome to the seventeenth edition of BlueFlyer, our global newsletter for BBA Aviation group companies. In April, our Senior Leadership Conference took place in Phoenix, Arizona and was attended by approximately 100 senior leaders from across the Group. The focus of this year’s three day conference was ‘Writing the Next Chapter’ of BBA Aviation’s exciting future. You can find a video of what this meant to our senior leaders by visiting the BBA Aviation intranet homepage. Attendees also enjoyed a busy afternoon with pupils from the StarShine Academy, a local school for under-privileged children, engaging with them and helping them to understand what it takes to develop a future career through various aviationrelated activities before making a donation to support their education. Please turn to page 6 to learn more. The conference was also a chance to congratulate the winners of BBA Aviation’s 2015 Vision, Mission and Values Awards and celebrate their achievements during the year.

We had an exceptional number of high quality entries this year, showing just how much you are all living the vision, mission and values across the Group, and I would like to thank everyone who submitted a nomination or was nominated. Please visit the BBA Aviation intranet homepage to watch the videos of the award winners discussing their submissions. These videos should act as inspiration to us all. You can learn more about the award winners on page 8. In May we updated investors and analysts on our performance for the first three months of the year and I am pleased to report that the Group as a whole is on track. Signature continues to perform better than its markets and there are many long term opportunities available to us with our expanded network of nearly 200 FBOs. Ontic also continues to deliver and ASIG’s underlying operational performance is solid. Global Engine Services is demonstrating operational improvement despite markets being challenging. Overall the Group has got off to a good start in what is set to be a transformational year for BBA Aviation.

On pages 10-12 you will find an update on the transition process underway at Signature to fully integrate our new locations and the Signature Leadership Conference which welcomed many new faces. I am very pleased to report that the integration process is on track – our new team members have all undertaken the relevant training programmes, the transition to Signature branding at bases is almost complete and we expect all sites to be using SIGnet by the end of the year. I would like to say a personal thanks to all involved – their leadership and commitment have been critical. Finally, please turn to page 14 to see what some of our sites got up to on BBA Aviation’s first ZIPP Global Safety Day. I think everyone will agree that it was a resounding success! I hope you find this edition of BlueFlyer interesting and enjoy learning more about what’s happening across the Group. If you have any stories that you would like featured in future editions please contact the BlueFlyer team on news@bbaaviation.com

PEOPLE

PEOPLE

SHEQ&I Embedding safety as a core value

Since the discovery of gas reserves on Laggan in 1986, it has been a long-held aspiration to explore and develop West of Shetland – the final frontier for the UKCS. On 7 February 2016, as first gas from Laggan flowed through the newly-built Shetland Gas Plant, TEP UK not only celebrated the completion of this vastly technical, innovative project, but also the successful realisation of a 30-year dream.

GREATER LAGGAN Delivering a keystone development

It’s fair to say that Elisabeth Proust has had an interesting start to her tenure piloting TEP UK’s future; navigating the economic climate while also securing first gas from LagganTormore. Courier caught up with our Managing Director to discuss today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities.

PEOPLE Solutions for nurturing talent

In this 2016 edition of Courier magazine we look at both the challenges and our achievements since the last edition at the end of 2014. As well as reflecting back on the last year, we report on how our efforts to transform our cost culture and our response to the low-price environment have prepared us for a new era in the UK offshore industry. Looking closely at this year, Courier pays tribute to The LagganTormore Team and celebrates the safe start-up of our third hub. We talk to a number of key personnel from the project and examine the impact the Greater Laggan Area has had on our portfolio. Throughout the publication you’ll see that the company’s key focus areas of safety, delivery, cost and cash continue to be the main focus for the organisation – we recap on our 4C&D efforts and how they’ve shaped our future planning and investment, and both Elisabeth Proust and SHEQ&I Director Bruce Lawson talk about safety as a core value and the work still to be done to improve our safety performance. As ever there’s a lot to talk about at TEP UK, so we hope you enjoy this bumper edition! Please also feel free to contact any member of the Corporate Communications Team if there’s a story you’d like to share with the wider organisation.

IN THE MAKING Elisabeth sees new opportunities for the business if we all pull together.

I was expecting a very competent staff and indeed this is the case. The mobilisation to reduce cost, started by my predecessor Philippe Guys, had made people realise that we needed to change our culture and our way of working. As the industry has been here for more than 40 years, habits and practices are entrenched in day-to-day work. Effort had to be

reinforced from the Management to explain the situation and how everybody could impact it. The management of change is a priority for me. The challenge is to mobilise everyone to embrace change and help shape a bright future for TEP UK.

Turning to safety, now embedded as a core value within Group, what is your message to the business and what are your expectations in relation to this renewed focus? We have always focused on safety and Total’s North Sea affiliates have, historically, been 3

viewed as the benchmark for safety by the industry, especially with regard to strong HSE management and regulatory systems. However, time has passed and the North Sea industry has seen its performance degrade while the rest of the world was progressing quickly. Objectives are increasingly difficult to reach, requiring a lot more work on behaviours and safety culture. We need to re-focus our communications in safety. Our processes and procedures are robust, but we need to place greater emphasis on everyday behaviours. Already, the signs are there that teams have embraced change. Where incidents PERSPECTIVE

FOCUS ON: DAIRY POLICY

Chairman

It is my pleasure to introduce the Dairy UK Annual Report for 2016, a milestone year which saw the Brexit vote and a much needed recovery in international dairy markets. Brexit will bring momentous changes which will have ramifications for our industry for generations to come. How we as an industry respond will be one of our greatest tests. Dairy UK is quite clear on its role in the evolving drama of Brexit which is to do what we can to ensure the industry emerges with a viable customer base and becomes more resilient and competitive. Achieving these goals will mean consumers can still enjoy the best of UK dairy products at home and abroad. We were pleased to see a recovery in international dairy markets during the course of 2016 which in turn created improved trading conditions for dairy

processors and farmers alike. We remain committed to working closely with our supply chain partners, engaging with our farmers regularly through our Farmers Forum, as well as with the farming unions and AHDB Dairy, to explore new ways of managing the impact of volatility and build a positive future across the supply chain. Dairy UK members operate both in domestic and international markets. Maintaining our successful record of growth in exports has been a major challenge for many of our members. Throughout the year, we rolled out our activities to help export UK dairy products to the world, first with our strategy for greater exploration of international markets followed by our ‘Brexit and the Future of Dairy Exports’ document, our view of where we want to be and what we need Government to do to help us maintain

a vibrant and growing UK dairy industry. Dairy UK also continued its work on the international stage and in October, we were delighted to see our own Chief Executive Judith Bryans elected President of the International Dairy Federation (IDF), an appointment that reflects her contribution to our industry and her widely recognised expertise and knowledge. Public health and nutrition have remained very prominent issues throughout the course of the year. Dairy UK, The Dairy Council and the British Cheese Board remain resolute in their task to educate consumers on the benefits of dairy foods in the diet and promoting quality British dairy produce. Our ultimate judges are the millions of people throughout the UK who place their faith in our industry’s products every day. They must, at all times, remain our most important consideration.

AGRICULTURAL POLICY As part of its priority actions set after the EU referendum, Dairy UK has identified several key principles for the development of UK agricultural policy post-Brexit. In a comprehensive briefing paper drafted with the support of the Farmers’ Forum, Dairy UK stressed that protecting and enhancing the competitiveness of the dairy sector should be at the core of all aspects of agricultural policy. Other essential questions revolved around an equitable treatment of dairy farmers compared to their European counterparts, a reconfiguration of direct payments taking into account the impact of and trying to mitigate price volatility, as well as a calculation of aid for public goods by income forgone.

Dairy UK works closely with the UK Government, devolved administrations and all relevant organisations to promote the interests of the UK dairy sector and help steer our industry in the right direction. With volatility now an inherent part of the market, the dairy industry must focus on being more competitive and finding the right tools to manage the impact of volatility.

The paper also tackles the need to maintain equivalent standards with the EU, to ensure the availability of trained labour and new entrants as well as to minimise distortions between the countries of the UK. Dairy UK strongly believes it is essential that agricultural policy should enable the UK dairy sector to compete in a challenging and market-driven environment.

BOOSTING DAIRY EXPORTS In January, Dairy UK published a comprehensive Export Strategy, outlining key steps to improve the cost effectiveness and efficiency of the dairy export certification scheme to boost exports worldwide. Building on the success of the report, Dairy UK worked with Defra to support the development of a range of options for the future administration of export health certificates, identifying short and long term opportunities for improvement. As part of the Dairy Certification Working Group, Dairy UK and Defra have looked at the creation of a one-stop-shop for all export certificates, remote certification by vets, plant authorisation and the greater availability of generic certificates.

GROCERIES CODE ADJUDICATOR Throughout the year, Dairy UK reiterated its views on the Groceries Code Adjudicator’s (GCA) remit and called for an extension of the Adjudicator’s remit to large food service companies, small retailers and wholesalers.

Dairy UK is now working with Defra on a pilot project on remote certification. The system would allow certificates to be issued automatically once a plant has been inspected and approved. Dairy UK endorsed the project’s specifications and will liaise with Defra on its implementation.

In parliamentary briefings and as part of a consultation launched by the Department for Business, Energy and Industry Strategy, Dairy UK explained that a horizontal extension of her remit would allow the Adjudicator to have a comprehensive oversight of the retail sector while benefiting the dairy industry as these outlets constitute an important and growing part of the market for dairy.

Dairy UK also pushed for the efficient and cost effective management of importing country audits, while safeguarding the UK dairy sector’s food safety credentials and building confidence in the UK regulatory regime.

Conversely, Dairy UK argued that extending her remit down the supply chain to include contractual relations between farmers and purchasers would lead to unnecessary and excessive

In its ‘International Action Plan for UK Food & Drink 20162020’, the Government recognised Dairy UK’s contributions to food and drink exports, enshrining key recommendations in its own strategy and highlighting the dairy sector’s aspirations for a 20-30% increase in exports over the next five years.

Our priorities in 2016

Dairy policies shape the environment dairy companies operate in and Dairy UK works around the clock to make sure it is an environment which facilitates growth and development in the industry and reduces the burden of regulation.

regulation, hindering the industry’s flexibility and ability to respond to the market place. Regulation of the dairy sector by the GCA would also raise the issue of why other agricultural sectors should not be included and would set a complex precedent.

SCHOOL MILK SCHEME Months of constructive engagement with MEPs proved successful as the European Parliament voted for a new and improved School Milk Scheme. MEPs approved the merging of the separate school milk and fruit schemes to boost the combined annual budget by €20 million to €250 million a year. The new scheme expanded the list of eligible products for EU subsidy to include a number of flavoured dairy products and increased the dairy-specific budget from €80 million to €100 million.

Dairy UK maintained a close dialogue with MEPs ahead of the vote, calling for the inclusion of flavoured milks and yogurts alongside plain dairy products as all can make important contributions to children’s intakes of essential nutrients, particularly protein, calcium and vitamin B12. Following the Brexit vote, Dairy UK secured a key role in an upcoming Defra working group on the future of the School Milk Scheme post Brexit.

MANAGING VOLATILITY With volatility now an inherent part of the market, Dairy UK is exploring new ways to help the dairy industry be more competitive and find the right tools to manage the impact of volatility. Throughout the year, Dairy UK maintained a constructive dialogue with all dairy stakeholders including farming bodies and financial organisations to consider the development of futures markets for dairy. Dairy UK also hosted a joint conference on volatility in Northern Ireland with the Ulster Farmers Union. The conference brought together UK and international speakers offering new insights and perspectives on the challenges of volatility and risk management tools such as the US Margin Protection Programme.
