The project was to integrates process, material, and program in a specifically sited context. The project involves the research and design of an outdoor swimming pool and recreation center. The project undergoes different phases to create a final design of swimming pool. The first phase starts from simplifying the profile of a potato. Lines created from this process were extruded to create series of volumes to contain programs. Organizing programs in the the volumes of boxes are the second phase of the design process. The water for the swimming pool was filled as if the building becomes a giant bowl to contain the water. Some of top surfaces of the boxes open and flip to create stepping plane and openings for the programs.

An urban housing scheme was developed and explored the potential for site, typology, historic precedent, nature, organizational ideas, ordering principles, circulation, material studies, even structures, and systems integration to inspire fresh comination and well-reasoned frameworks for the design of domestic space. Designated site was at Little Tokyo in Los Angeles, California. The main design concept focuses on the pedestrian movement and the urban context around the site. To force more movement of general public on the site, storefront was organized on the ground level and the plaza on the northwest corner of the building is open to the busiest 1st Street. Total fifty units were organized in the building which includes live/work loft, regular loft, and mini loft.

The charter highschool locates at the corner of 9th street and south broadway. It is highly rated area of pedestrian and vehicle movement. Also the site is surrounded by key buildings in downtown. The school is a place where community connects to outsiders of the downtown. Primary design concept is verticality to follow patterns of the urban fabric. The grid system affects structure, skin, and matrix of programs. This is how the texture of the building continues throughout both inside and outside of the building. It is similar to the human skin that wraps around the whole body. The design of the school was to differentiate from the surrounding buildings. Instead of considering separate, structure and skin systems are explored and combined as a whole system throughout the building.

This project was a succeeding step after exploration of various deneumetic skin systems and application of a selected skin system onto an existing building in Alhambra. The following step was creating a full scale installation. This lightweight system provides the opportunity to create new inside and outside relationships and vertical spaces, blurring the line between interior and exterior. Vertical spaces allows for a visual connection from floor to floor, parting from the typical floor to floor hierarchy.

This project undertakes the construction of a jacket, based on a given pattern; a Mao Jacket. The Mao Jacket type has been selected for it’s ubiquitous, generic qualities. The Mao Jacket was conceived and designed to provide the conformity that a uniform provides, employing the concept of the predictable multiple. I took the generic, and find luxury through an obsessive attention to materiality, detail and construction. Two-dimensional sewing patterns are used to construct a three-dimensional object much like a floor plan, elevation drawing or construction details are used for a building. The jacket construction adheres to the intent of the given in every detail. It is constructed of two materials which are hole puches and white threads. This allows one material for the skin/ shell -facade/building envelop of the jacket and the other material for any required fastening or joinery. Also these materials are an integrated unified system.
