We Care about Your Safety The Decatur Park District cares about the safety of our visitors and strives to ensure that playground equipment, park grounds, and facilities remain in excellent condition. Please help us in this effort! Follow posted safety rules and note age designations for appropriate use of playground equipment. Insurance While the Park District is committed to conducting recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, an inherent risk of injury exists with any recreational activity. The Decatur Park District does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained on its property or in its programs, as the cost of such insurance would make program fees cost-prohibitive. ADA Accessibility Survey The 6-volume ADA Accessibility document completed by Recreation Accessibility Consultants may be viewed at the Administrative Office, 620 E. Riverside Ave. For more information, contact Mandy Childress at 422-5911.

Scovill Sculpture Park The arts are appreciated for their intrinsic benefits—their beauty and vision and how they inspire, soothe, provoke, and connect us. They are essential to the vitality of our communities, spurring urban renewal, attracting new businesses, drawing tourism dollars, and improving our quality of life. The Decatur Parks Foundation, Decatur Park District, Children’s Museum of Illinois, Decatur Area Arts Council, and Neuhoff Media have partnered to present the Scovill Sculpture Park! This exciting, accessible, outdoor art development was funded entirely by a private philanthropist. Twelve new sculptures now lie along 800’ of walkways between Scovill Zoo and the Children’s Museum of Illinois. Every year, the zoo hosts 100,000 visitors, and the Children’s Museum welcomes 65,000. We hope that these visitors, and many more, will take advantage of this amazing new experience in Scovill Park.

Decatur Park District Named Gold Medal Finalist! In May 2016, the Decatur Park District was named a National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) Gold Medal Award finalist! The Gold Medal awards program honors communities that demonstrate excellence in parks and recreation through long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development, and agency recognition. Applications are separated into 7 classes, with 5 classes based on population, 1 class for armed forces recreation, and 1 class for state park systems. Decatur is a finalist in Class IV (population of 30,001 – 75,000) and is competing against Bismarck ND, Olympia WA, and Springfield, OR. Agencies are judged on their ability to address the needs of those they serve through the collective energies of citizens, staff, and elected officials. “To receive national recognition as a Gold Medal Finalist is a great honor and speaks highly of our Park District leadership and staff who give 100% each day so our community members and visitors can enjoy all that our Park District has to offer,” said Park Board President Bob Brilley, II. “This recognition is also earned with the help of our sponsors, partners, and volunteers. Without them, we couldn’t do what we do.” The entry submission included an application detailing financial data and a parks inventory, 9 essays, a 250-word Park District summary, Master Plan summary, 3 photographs, and a 5-minute video. Winners will be announced on October 6 at the NRPA Conference in St. Louis. To view the video, visit youtube.com and search Decatur Pa r k D i s t r i c t 2016 Gold Medal Video.
