The picturesque city of Dubrovnik, southern Croatia.
This summer why not take a trip off the beaten track and visit Croatia. With its 6,278km of coastline, the highest peak Dinara standing at 1,831m and 1,244 islands, islets and reefs there is plenty to see and do whether you want to hike, sail or simply relax in beautiful surroundings. Croatia enjoys three different climates: the coast has a
pleasant Mediterranean climate with a high number of days of sunshine per year. Summers are hot and dry, winters are mild and wet and if you climb above 1,200m, you’ll be greeted with fresh mountain air and temperatures around 13 ºC in the summer months.
Stari Grad, which literally translates as Old Town, is famous for its winding streets & 17th century architecture

DUBROVNIK “If you want to see heaven on Earth, come to Dubrovnik” - George Bernard Shaw. Full of unique political and cultural history and worldrenowned buildings, it’s no wonder Dubrovnik is viewed as a world heritage site. This attraction consists of three hundred multi-layer glass panels in the form of a large circle, 22m in diameter. During daytime hours, the solar modules absorb solar energy, transforming it into electricity which at night then puts on an amazing light show.
The capital of Croatia, Zagreb is sometimes overlooked as a destination by visitors to the country because it doesn’t have the Adriatic sea or beaches, but it has many fine sights to see and explore. Known as the ‘City of Museums’ as there are more of them per square foot than any other city in the world, it is perfect for the history buff, but don’t let that put you off. Visit the colourful Dolac Market or sit back like the locals in Ban Jelacic Square in one of the many cafes or restaurants and watch the world go by.

visual merchandising
A BIT OF
In today’s fiercely competitive retail market, visually engaging retail displays attract new customers and keeps them intrigued for more.
14
People respond to visual stimuli, good displays target both our heads and our hearts. The window and showroom each play their own role in creating sales. The window display creates interest to attract customers in, while the showroom should present the actual product to secure the sale.
This visual enticement need not just be left to these leading brands. As a trade we have the opportunity to entice customers with the latest in design and colour trends for interiors across a mix of blind types and raise the stature of window blinds from purely functional to a means of adding design to an interior.
If you are a retail store your window display is one of the most important aspects of your business. It needs to showcase your products effectively to encourage people to enter your store. Visual presentation is essential when it comes to window retail display. From fashion to interiors window displays can set you apart from your competitors and give you an edge to encourage consumers into your store. From Next to Topshop, Prada to Louis Vuitton leading brands use window displays to tempt customers and stand out from the crowd.
The Fabric Box is leading the way with new window designs being created to show the possibilities. Developing brand awareness does not only need to focus on the product, attention grabbing tactics and brand design will gain consumer interest while the product sells a design style and trend. Once customers have been enticed to enter your showroom, they should be met with clutter free displays, engaging colours and clearly defined presentations. Five simple steps can be followed to create a balanced showroom which encourages the customer to buy.
visual merchandising
Show, Don't Tell Keep Your Target Customer In Mind
Before people make a purchase they typically want an idea of what it will look and feel like. To accommodate this need you can set up your merchandise display in a way people identify with and could envision in their own home or on themselves.
Knowing your target customer inside and out will help you tremendously when it comes to creating effective merchandising displays. Not only being familiar with demographic data like age, income and education level, but digging a little deeper into psychographics and behaviours. In other words, targeting not just individual customers, but their lifestyles.
People Have 5 Senses, Not 1 Find Some Inspiration Thanks to the Internet you no longer have to wait around for that brilliant idea to hit you when you're thinking about putting together your next merchandising display. Instead, there are a number of invaluable resources available in the form of blogs, boards, and more.
Group Like with Like
It can be really easy to focus on just creating visually stimulating displays and forget about the other four senses, but the secret to creating an engaging and immersive experience is to create a multi-sensory experience or what's known to industry insiders as "sensory branding."
Grouping like products with like products will give your customers additional reasons to buy more items from you, but it also has a more utilitarian reasoning behind it, namely saving them time from looking around and trying to mix and match things.
15
KEEP IT CLEAN A clean fresh showroom in both design and tidiness, is imperative. Consumers make their first impression of a showroom within 5 seconds of entering. The cleanliness of the showroom, the smell of the showroom and how the displays are presented all create this first impression.
THINK VISUALLY Consumers want to be inspired, your showroom is your platform to showcase your products in the best light. Use actual blind displays mixed with brochures, posters, website and other sales aids to inspire customers, giving them the confidence for their interior design.
TELL A STORY Colourful displays can create different moods, looks and styles as well as a means of creating seasonal displays. Soft pastels and dusky tones offer a calming choice, vibrant yellow and citrus tones can invigorate, while metallic tones bring a sense of warmth and luxury. 16
THE RIGHT LIGHT Lighting should not be an afterthought, but used as a beacon to draw consumers instore and highlight different sections or products within the showroom.
COMPETITION COMPETITION TIME TIME Now it's time for you to release your creative side and produce a window display to rival any of the big brand names! Make it exciting and enticing and stand out from the crowd, for your chance to win the trip of a lifetime to the amazing city of Berlin!
THINK FASHION Our industry is an extension of the fashion world. We provide fashion for interiors, when a customer enters your showroom and sees a reflection in the fashion world and what you have on display there is a subliminal connection between the two and a feeling of security that you have made the right choice.
• Create an enticing display with The Fabric

September 2016.
You can create a theme for your display using any of the fabrics, it may be based on anything from colour, design to seasonality, the possibilities are endless. Think outside of the box to make your design really stand out from the crowd. Pictures of the display should be sent to marketing@decora.co.uk. A panel of judges will select a winner and announce it on the 15th October with images of the winning store in the next edition of The View and through emailers.
ADD VALUE Your showroom is your stage for showcasing your products and adding value to every sale achieved. Display accessories and different finishes on blinds to maximise profit and add value to every sale.

Colour trends are continually shifting and evolving. What is “on trend” one year is often quickly replaced with the latest craze or colour scheme. Fashion, interiors and design while all different markets are intrinsically linked by these colour trends. However, the power of colour is not only about what is the latest in fashion or even personal choice but colour has the power to affect our moods, feelings and well-being. Leading brands have long since been well aware of this power and continue to utilise it in advertising, retail spaces and branding. How colour affects us relates not only to the commercial world but it is very much prevalent for our homes. Look around the rooms in your home and you’ll probably pick up on a theme (or two). Colour is an 20
expression of your personality. Sometimes we will break away from the norm, but most of us have a tendency to stick the shades we know and love. Leslie Harrington, a colour consultant states: “What colour you paint your walls isn’t just a matter of aesthetics. It’s a tool that can be leveraged to affect emotions and behaviour”. With this in mind, what does your room say about you?
Rosa Mineral
B LU E Blue tones symbolise trust, honesty and loyalty. This colour can also relate to peace and tranquillity and this is why this shade is popular in bedrooms as this is the place people like to go to relax and unwind.
GREEN Green is currently the most popular decorating colour, as it symbolizes nature. In the kitchen, green calms things down; in a living room, it encourages unwinding but still has enough warmth & life to promote comfort and togetherness. Unilux Lime
P U RPLE This colour lends an instant va-va-voom! Is your room reminiscent of lilacs, amethysts or dark purples? You are probably outgoing, confident and creative. These colours can make a room feel glamorous, create intimacy in an imposing space or play up the coziness in a small room.
Nina Mulberry
Satina Crimson
RED Use red to give a resonant and stimulating aspect for your rooms. The colour red often indicates a threat, it can increase heart rate and blood flow but with a warmer shade you can feel very good. A room with much red can increase the level of passion. Like orange, red is widely used in kitchens.
Vesper Snow Tiber Snow
NE U TRALS
Farah Petal
PI NK Pink hues demonstrate romance, affection and intimacy. They tone down the physical passion of red replacing it with a gentle loving energy. Pink represents the sweet and innocent in children and our inner child.
22
Do you prefer neutral tones such as grey, beige and ivory? This shows you’re practical and not interested in repainting your rooms because you’ve tired of the shades. Muted tones allow you to use more colour in your accessories and furnishings.
YELLOW Use yellow tones to give a bright and optimistic air for your home. Effects of yellow colour varies with its nuances. When yellow is applied to a room it can add a little sunshine to the home and radiate a sense of friendliness.
Vitra Action
ORANGE A true orange is about fun, joy, and playfulness. It encourages social interaction in a fun, conversational way. Orange is also the colour that stimulates the appetite. Whilst it is often stated that red stimulates the appetite, this is more to do with colour in culture.

OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS, CRAFT DISTILLING IS IN THE MIDST OF A BOOM, DRIVEN IN ESSENCE BY THE INCREASING DEMAND FOR BOUTIQUE COCKTAILS AND YOUNGER CONSUMERS URGING FOR NEW TASTE EXPERIENCES. Consumers are starting to look beyond all of the marketing and hype of the traditional, large and well established alcohol brands, looking for the small craft brands offering passion behind the tipple. Micro brewing started in the UK in 1970 and then spread to the US, within 12 years the US craft distillers were booming, but it took
a further 3 decades for the first UK craft gin distillery to open in 2008. These budding new forward thinking distilleries, call them craft, call them micro or call them artisanal, are bursting with their own personality and unique selling points.

Coming into what we hope to be a sunny summer (at The View we always have a positive outlook) controlling the entry of solar heat and light can have considerable effect on our homes energy bills. In the summer months window blinds can reduce the heat gain thus reducing the need for cooling systems. Research has proven that installing internal shutters can have a beneficial energy saving on your home with a 58% reduction on heat loss*. Shutters are very effective at blocking and absorbing solar heat, resulting in lower home heating bills.
•
SOLAR TRANSMITTANCE value details the amount of light allowed to flow into the room when a Santa Fe Shutter** is closed. The zero value indicates that when closed, no light can flow into the room, offering the ultimate in light control.
•
SOLAR REFLECTANCE value details how much light is reflected from the Santa Fe Shutter**. When in a closed position the high value facilitates a high level of solar reflectance, perfect for controlling heat in the summer.
• SOLAR ABSORPTION value is the amount of heat gained by the Santa Fe Shutter** when closed. The low value indicates that Santa Fe Shutters help keep heat gain to a minimum.

All across the world the growing pace of industrialisation leads interior design trends to introduce elements of nature, bringing softer, more zen like attributes to the fast pace of modern day life. The use of organic matter such as wood gives the feeling of reconnecting with nature and calms in areas of retreat. 30
Contemporary Greys Interior design “gurus” have been singing the praises of grey as “the new neutral”. We now see grey across all spectrums of interiors, from paint, furnishings, accessories and window furnishings. Grey does not overpower or fight with other colours, hence the perfect well balanced neutral, making it as versatile as neutral and beige tones. The popularity of grey has emerged as the must have wood colour for flooring and wood accessories. Not only does it enrich the natural grain effect of wood enhancing its impact in a room but creates a rich yet subtle statement. Sunwood Acacia and Timberlux Cordoba emulate woods natural grain, whilst Sunwood Ash gives definition with a rich grey painted finish.
Scandinavian Living The “Scandinavian modern” look has emerged as one of the stronger design trends which has been captured in many trend led homes. The look epitomised by simplicity, minimalism and functionality and light coloured natural woods creates an airy environment. Natural unfinished maple flooring can be complimented with Timberlux’s Zura, a subtle white washed wood or Sunwood’s subtle Elm or Maple. Together the soft fresh wood tones maximise light and the sense of nature.
Sunwood Acacia, Dove Tapes
Timberlux Yarrin 50mm
Rich Dark Tones If it’s a bold statement that is desired with nature in mind, strong dark wood tones boast a decedent finish. Rich tones, such as Timberlux Yarrin or Sunwood Hazel can be paired with sumptuous furnishings and opulent textiles which emulates sophistication. Whilst the simplicity of monochrome creates a dramatic ultramodern look.
