THESIS STATEMENT:

Due to the continued redevelopment in the city of St Louis and signs of its renewal the Pruitt Igoe site because of its historic, social and symbolic resilience would greatly benefit from the creation of a museum and community center with emphasis on unifying the community while creating a sense of history and place that will solidify it as a symbol of regeneration in the city and furthermore make it a catalyst for rejuvenation of cities that are poverty stricken and challenged with social and economic decay.

PROCESS DIAGRAMS/FORM GENERATION:

The shift creates a more dynamic form that breaks away from the original axis where activity can happen. It creates a plaza that becomes a central location

The plaza opens to the street to welcome in users while also creating a frame for the park

Axis of Remembrance is axis of Pruitt Igoe building foundations

ACTIVATE:

The idea from the shift also allows the footprints to become program for the site

Park

New Building footprints are shifted respecting Pruitt Igoe foundations

FRAME:

SHIFT:

AXIS:

UNIFY:

The plaza and the footprints work together to create a more dynamic atmosphere that draws users throughout the site

ALIGN:

Gallery spaces align with footprints to make reverenceto the Pruitt Igoe history and make a visual connection

ENDANGERED WILDLIFE AWARENESS MUSEUM (EWAM)

THE SAN DIEGO BAY IS HOME TO MANY KINDS OF MARINE LIFE. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF SPECIES THAT MAKE THE BAY THEIR HOME AND EXTENSIVE RESEARCH IS DONE TO COUNTERACT THE ISSUES THAT THREATEN THE WILDLIFE. THIS KNOWLEDGE HAS LED ME TO CREATE AN ARCHITECTURE THAT SPEAKS TO THE AWARENESS OF THESE VERY SENSITIVE ISSUES OF THE SAN DIEGO BAY.

THE IDEA BEHIND EWAM IS TO CREATE A SPACE THAT IS LIKENED TO THE THREE PHYSICAL ELEMENTS WHERE LIFE EXIST WHICH ARE WATER, LAND AND AIR. THE MUSEUM’S AIM IS TO CREATE SPATIAL TENSIONS THROUGH THE USE OF MATERIAL CONTRAST, CURVED SPACES THAT ENCOURAGE CERTAIN EMOTIONS FROM THE USER; IT IS MEANT TO BE AN EXPERIENCE THAT CONNECTS THE THREE PHYSICAL ELEMENTS.

EWAM SITE ANALYSIS:

THE BAY IS A VIBRANT PLACE IT IS AN AREA WHERE MANY THINGS MERGE FROM RUNNING, TO BIKING, SKATEBOARDING OR JUST SITTING AND ENJOYING THE VIEWS, SIGHTS AND SOUNDS

GRAPE STREET

The homeless community is abundant in the East Village of San Diego. From corner to corner and street to street they add to the landscape of the community with there makeshift tents, pillows, blankets and whatever they have to make the pavement that they sleep on more comfortable. They are engrained into the San Diego culture. At times it seems as if they are just scuptural pieces that add to the sidewalks and curbs due to the lack of attention that they are given. At imes it seems as if they are de-humanized.

PROCESS:

Tranformation is a process of gradual change that is expressed through mani-

pulations that respond to specific conditions related to site. Transformation was used in the project to generate form and space. Datum is used in the process as a way to organize spaces and circulation. Once organization is achieved circulation is able to be explored in a way that is cohesive. BEECH

HOMELESS DENSITY MAP BEECH

Lines extracted from an overlaying of the street collage and HOMELESS DENSITY MAP were used to generate the below geometries and to create meaning to the geometries in a way that would elicit space creation and exploration. The intent of the exploration was to find connections that could further the process of the geometries as drivers of an architectural language.
