Enjoyable moments on the water Plan your boating vacation in Friesland or Brandenburg Yachtcharter De Drait offers a wonderful boating vacation in the Netherlands on the Frisian waters as well as in Germany on the lake district of Brandenburg and all the other regional rivers and canals. Our one-way tour enables you to discover the best of each region. We have a diverse charter fleet with various yachts in both countries. At both locations you can relax on board of our yachts or houseboats, which are rentable for different periods. You can berth at natural areas to go fishing and swimming or berth at one of the many different city and village centres to discover the vibrant cultures. The boats have comfortable cabins, a shower, toilet and a kitchen, where you can perfectly cook your meals. Enjoy gregariously the delicious meal in the salon or on the quarterdeck. To make your boating holiday even more comfortable, we offer a lot of extra services, like bedding or a fishing license. Netherlands - Friesland

Yachtcharter De Drait operates from its own marina. The marina is located centrally in the north of the Netherlands and from here you can easily reach different popular water sports places such as Grou, Sneek, Leeuwarden and Lemmer. One of the places you should not skip during your boating holiday is National Park De Alde Feanen. For a longer vacation it is also possible to discover the National Park De Weerribben, National Park Lauwersmeer or Groningen. Experienced skippers can also cross the Ijsselmeer to reach, for instance, Amsterdam. More information can be found on page 5.

Germany - Brandenburg

Brandenburger Nature

Yachtcharter De Drait has been active in Brandenburg since 2008. The fleet consists of 16 yachts. Brandenburg is located 70 km west of Berlin. From the marina in Brandenburg the boating vacation starts in this natural and culturally rich area. Enjoy the unique cities located at the Havel or visit the cultural centres of Potsdam or Berlin. One-way tour

The boating areas of Friesland and Brandenburg are beautifully connected with each other through waterways. This travel filled with adventures offers the possibility to discover the Netherlands as well as Germany. You can boat through nature for two weeks and decide between four routes in spring or five routes in fall. For this one-way tour a boat licence is required, for example Dutch boat license part 1 or the German boat license (Inland). Read more about the routes and possibilities on our homepage.

Renting possibilities

You can rent a boat for a weekend, a midweek, for a week or longer periods. Yachtcharter De Drait has fixed departure days, which are Mondays and Fridays. Are you looking for a boat for a specific period or a certain amount of days? Please contact us for the nonbinding possibilities. Since for several months we also offer the possibility of an overnight stay on board. Read more about our “Airbnb” possibilities at page 51. A sailing holiday is a wonderful experience for everybody. Go boating with friends, family or for instance with a larger group. We offer different types of boats. Our largest yacht has 7 cabins with room for up to 14 persons. However, there are also motorboats or houseboats suitable for 2 persons. Additionally, there are also boats with a low clearance height to discover unique cities. Because of their low clearance height these boats are also easy to steer and perfect for beginners.

Activities

By discovering the surrounding from the water, it seems to look a lot differently. Experience the unique natural environment or berth in one of the many city or village centres. In that way an active vacation can be combined with peace and tranquillity. Jump into the gleaming water, go fishing or visit one of the restaurants and cafes located at the waterfront. Additional services

Make your vacation as easy as possible and book additional services. For instance, towels and bedding can be booked extra. The advantage is that you do not have to bring all these items with you. Another advantage is that the beds will be made for you. Do you want to take you pet with you on board? Pets are welcome on board. For a small extra cleaning fee of €30 you can bring your domestic animal with you. Do you want to take a dinghy to go fishing or experience the little canals and rivers? There are possibilities to rent a dinghy or a dinghy console*. To be able to easily discover the surroundings of the berthing areas we are also offering the option to rent bikes with gears for € 5 per day / € 30 per week. Discover the most beautiful area in the north of the Netherlands Did you know that Friesland has its own language and also a lot of local delicacies like Oranjekoek (pastry with pink glaze and whipped cream), Suikerbrood (bread with sugar) and Fryske Dûmkes (cookies with anise)?

The first thing that comes to mind if you think about Friesland is wetland. For many years, the Frisians have been trying to protect land from water. By building the famous Waddendijk (Waddendike), the Frisian coastal area is protected from the Waddensea and North Sea. Also, the famous mounds are built to block the water. The Frisians always ‘fought’ against the water.

In the summer season, a lot of events are organised that take place on and around the water. For example, the Frisian “Fierljeppen”, where an athlete tries with the help of a pole to jump as far as possible over the water. Or one of the well-known sailing events, such as the competitions with the Skûtsjes built in Friesland and flatbottomed boats around the famous water sports places. Frisian Lakes

From the marina you sail through National Park De Alde Feanen towards the famous water sports places, such as Grou, Sneek, Leeuwarden and Lemmer. Drachten is located on the main route without bridges and locks. The centre of the Frisian lake district is the Sneekermeer, which in summer is frequented by water sports enthusiasts and recreationists to enjoy the fun and beautiful nature. The most famous berths are Terherne, Sneek and Lemmer. Are you traveling with children? Then visit Kameleondorp in Terherne or discover the city centre of Sneek with various shops, cafés and restaurants. For more history, the city of IJlst lends itself perfectly, this city is known for its beautiful canals. The Heegermeer is one of the most popular lakes in Friesland and here the places Koudum, Heeg and Woudsend are popular among water sports enthusiasts.

Departure location: Drachten

The centre of Drachten is located around the Drachtstervaart. Here are several shops and you can enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner. Drachten has a lot of culture, visit a theatre in De Lawei or cinema De Bios. The sports enthusiast can swim in the swimming pool ‘De Welle’. Exhibitions are taking place at Museum Dr8888 and for kids it is suggested to visit Kinderboerderij De Naturij.

11 Fountains

The last time the ‘Elfstedentocht’ was skated was in 1997. It is a unique ice-skating tour over natural ice that is 200 km long and passes through the eleven cities of Friesland. Since 2018, when Leeuwarden was the Cultural Capital of Europe, a new ‘Elfstedentocht’ has arisen. Namely these of the 11 fountains. As an art project, 11 unique fountains were created and built in the 11 Frisian cities, designed by artists from all over the world. This project is a nice addition to the cultural heritage that Friesland offers. The photo displays the 7-meter-high fountain of Leeuwarden. 6

National Park the Alde Feanen

In one hour of sailing, you can reach National Park the Alde Feanen. In this nature reserve there are more than 100 species of breeding birds and over 450 species of plants. The nature reserve has several mooring locations for fishing and swimming. Visit one of the bird observation towers or moor in the water sports village of Eernewoude.

National park Weerribben-Wieden

This entire nature reserve has been created by human activity. The peat, which has formed over thousands of years, was almost completely excavated within 300 years. Through this process, a landscape of narrow strips of land and water was created. You can wander through the reed lands, but you never get lost, because all the canals end up on the main canal ‘Kalenbergergracht’.

National park Lauwersmeer

Bordered to Heritage the Wadden Sea is the famous National Park Lauwersmeer located (North of Groningen). The area is characterised by the rich bird population. The lake is surrounded by forests, reed beds and sandbanks. During your trip you can moor in Dokkum. This cosy city has a rich history and with its canals, stepped gables and nice terraces there is a relaxed atmosphere.

Activities and events

Friesische Natur

Besides the traditional Skûtsje sailing competition, there are a lot more activities and attractions to visit in Friesland. For instance, the historic Woudagemaal in Lemmer, the largest working steam pumping station in the world. Or visit the Planetarium in Franeker where between 1774 and 1781 its solar system was recreated. Nowadays, it is the oldest stillworking planetarium in the world. Another event is the famous Frisian Balloon Festival in Joure. Around 35 hot-air balloons take off every day during the festival. In addition to this event, several activities are organised for the whole family. Leeuwarden, the Frisian capital is rich with culture, like the tower Oldehove or visit the Frisian Museum or one of the theatres or culture venue the Blokhuispoort.

Amsterdam

Cruise through the Frisian Lakes region across the Rand lakes or the IJsselmeer (Zone II) to Amsterdam. A number of places to moor during your trip across the IJsselmeer are Sneek, Stavoren, Enkhuizen and Muiden. You can reach the Rand lakes via Sneek, Ossenzijl, Harderwijk and Muiden. The capital of the Netherlands offers a lot of culture and sights. Visit the Rijksmuseum or take a cruise through the canals and learn a lot about the history of the city. Amsterdam also has nice markets. Visit the most famous and one of the largest markets in Europe: The Albert Cuyp market. A very pleasant market with a wide range. The Dappermarkt in Amsterdam East is also highly recommended due to the multicultural offer. 7

Friesland - approx. 17 hrs by boat This tour across the Frisian lakes is ideal for beginning skippers and combines nature with various towns. Mooring places: Grou, Sneek, Heeg, Woudsend, Sloten, Lemmer, Langweer and Akkrum.

Groningen - approx. 22 hrs by boat Discover National Park De Alde Feanen on your way to the Frisian capital Leeuwarden. Via Dokkum and National Park Lauwersmeer you will reach versatile Groningen.

Amsterdam - approx. 31 hrs by boat Experienced skippers have the choice between the route across the Waddensea and the IJsselmeer. For beginners there are routes via the Weerribben and de Rand lakes to Amsterdam.

Marrekrite - Moor in nature Friesland offers a lot of berths in the middle of nature. These Marrekrite locations offer the opportunity to moor for a maximum of three days. At these locations, you can perfectly enjoy the tranquillity of Friesland. Moore at one of the islands in the Tjeukemeer or Heegermeer. Also, National Park De Alde Feanen offers several mooring places in the middle of nature. Tip: Reduce your water and power usage.

Picturesque cities - smaller than the villages Friesland counts eleven unique cities. Two of them are Sloten and Hindeloopen. Hindeloopen is known for the Frisian language that is spoken with a special dialect and the traditional costume. Furthermore, the city is famous for its typical paintings and the many wooden bridges. In Sloten, water sports are combined with history. The city has beautiful canal houses, a corn mill, two water towers and a magnificent city wall. In the summer many old traditions are revived.

Holiday with children Friesland offers many day trips for children, such as the amusement park Kameleondorp in Terherne or Aquazoo in Leeuwarden. The Nature museum in Leeuwarden offers several children’s activities throughout the year. On board children can have great fun, for example experience the surroundings with a dinghy, canoe or SUP-board. Alternately, you can more in cities with mooring in nature. Friesland has many islands, where kids can play several games.

Friesland is well-known for the large beaches on the IJsselmeer area, such as Makkum or Lemmer. But also along the inland waterways, there are many other small beaches like Eernewoude or Terherne. On the larger lakes, such as the Sneekermeer, Tjeukemeer, Heegermeer and the Fluessen several beaches can be found. Besides relaxing or swimming, many beaches also offer a Beach Club. Where you can enjoy the magnificent view and a delightful meal.

Delightful food

If you love delicious food, Friesland offers a very diverse kitchen. There are several good restaurants, from the Italian cuisine to Frisian delicacies such as smoked eel, ‘Fries suikerbrood’ (Frisian sugar bread) and the Frisian cake ‘Oranjekoek’. Do you prefer to cook by yourself? The several places have different supermarkets where you can buy Frisian products, these products can also be bought directly from the famer or brewery. Rathaus and Roland The old Rathaus in Brandenburg an der Havel can be regarded as a typical example of Gothic brick architecture. Until 1715, when two cities, Altstadt and Neustadt, were united to Brandenburg an der Havel, the town hall was the administrative centre of the Altstadt. Then it served as a shop, goods storage and prison. In 1910 it was bought back by the city of Brandenburg and reconstruction work followed. In front of the town hall is the five-meterhigh statue of Roland. This sandstone statue is a symbol for freedom.

Overnight stay on board Experience a unique overnight stay in Friesland Stay for an overnight on board at one of our luxury yachts or on board at one of our houseboats. Boat rental without a license Starting a carefree boating holiday after instruction or a skipper training If you want to rent a boat at Yachtcharter De Drait it is not necessary to have a lot of experience. Friesland is the water sports province of The Netherlands. Each year many water sports enthusiasts come to Friesland for boating, sailing, swimming or for a different kind of water sports. Within commercial shipping, Friesland is also known for the Princes Magrietkanaal, Van Harinxmakanaal and the waterways to Drachten and Heerenveen. To keep the traffic safe, various rules were made for the main waterways. Always drive on the right side and within the waterway. Drive quickly through bridges and watergates. Think about the speed due to wave and suction that can be caused through the ship. Try to avoid the blind spot of other boats and do not cross the waterway of approaching boats. Marina De Drait Equipped with all facilities for charter guests and boat owners In Drachten, Yachtcharter De Drait rents the charter ships from its own marina. The marina is located in the middle of Friesland near the A7 (motorway), which connects the Randstad and Amsterdam with Northern Germany. Marina De Drait is equipped with many modern facilities. This is where the shipyard is located, where the own line Drait Yachts is built, the Captains Lounge, gas station, day rental, water sports store, and so on. Various berths, winter storage facilities and service activities are also offered for boat owners. Boating is possible 12 months per year, as shipping is not limited by bridges and locks.

Renewed Marina

In 2016, Jachthaven De Drait has been completely renewed. Various sustainable choices were made during this process. The wooden scaffolds have been replaced with new durable aluminium floating scaffolding. These jetties provide a timeless harbour and the appearance of a park makes a longer stay in our marina attractive. After the renovation of the scaffolding, the wooden ship houses were also renewed in 2017. Due to the increasing demand for covered berths, these are future-proof made by renewing the roof and piling.

Shipyard and services

In addition to the maintenance of our charter fleet, our shipyard also offers maintenance and repairs for private individuals. For this work we have a boat crane, several workshops, stockroom and service vans. On the yard, paint damage on both steel and polyester boats can be easily repaired. Our work dock is sustainable for maintenance of boats up to 20 meters. In addition to the extensive workshop, we also have a carpentry department and paint shop. We also take care of the entire settlement in case of damages.

Captains Lounge

Take a berth with your boat directly beside the terrace of the Captains Lounge and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or tea. The Captains Lounge can be rented as a meeting room and here we also offer our skipper training courses.

Our Captains Lounge also has a coffee corner and a self-service bar for soft drinks. In the morning you can make use of the breakfast service (self-service) for € 10 per person.

At our marina we also offer camper pitches (RV sites). You can have an overnight stay at the end of our charter boulevard or on one of the green areas. The costs for an overnight stay, including electricity and use of the toilet building, are € 12 per night.

After unpacking, you can park your car for free at our parking lot. Our instructors will explain everything about the boat and routes. We also offer a short trial run.
