Illustrated Publication inspiring Spirituality Degree Project. SID. Pune “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin The spiritual process begins with ‘Seeing’ ourselves, tapping into the infinite wisdom of our spiritual selves to perceive our ‘Real Selves’. This journey needs employing of some tough love and first and foremost the will to accept ourselves – our Good, Bad and Ugly. Do we really know ourselves? Since birth we have been seeing things around us which have conditioned our minds in a certain way. The perceptions we have built up along the way build our world-view and colour our experience of living in it. We see the world through the unique kaleidoscopic lens of our experiences, conditioning and sensitivities. It is safe to assume that what we perceive of the outer world is actually a reflection of our inner world. We realise that we fail at seeing beyond ourselves, and the endless possibilities that present themselves once we remove the fetters that bind our mind. The seeing we have been accustomed to has to be accompanied by ‘Unseeing’- reaching beyond our prejudice and perception to experience the world ourselves in all authenticity. Seeing the Reality can happen only in conjunction with ‘UnSeeing’.

Cover Art: Creation of Adam, by Michelangelo, Sistine Chapel. The hand coming from top is the hand of God and the hand coming from down is the hand of man. As we open the book we see a reflection of a tree in the water implying that we were created in the image of the Entity.

Guide: Prof. Mahendra Patel, Mr. Niranjan Mhamane

There were 11 illustrations in the book here are some of them and excerpts from the accompanying text. 1. Mist of Singularity ...Aren’t we all multiple expressions of the same Cause? “The atoms of our bodies are traceable to stars that manufactured them in their cores and exploded these enriched ingredients across our galaxy, billions of years ago. For this reason, we are biologically connected to every other living thing in the world. We are chemically connected to all molecules on Earth. And we are atomically connected to all atoms in the universe. We are not figuratively, but litterally stardust.” - Neil deGrasse Tyson

2. Love makes the world go round ...We tend to perceive divine love within the framework of human love. ...For relationships it is their nature to be challenging, they are there for a purpose that requires us to have an experience thus creating a challenge ...God does not love, He is love 3. Mindfulness ...experience spirituality in our everyday life, to find a ‘divinity’ in everything we do... ...be-ing what you are do-ing. 4. The Experience ...Our soul takes birth in this physical form, in our body, not to learn something new but rather just to remember what we already know... “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

At the end of the booklet there were two maps on which the places mentioned in the booklet were marked with the unique number allotted to each and could be identified with the help of icons which were designed for the map.

The folder (pocket brochure) at the end of the book was done independently as another project but I later decided to have them together in the booklet.

Visual Identity for a hypothetical womens’ salon Class room project. SID. Pune Branding and designing a corporate identity for a hypothetical women’s salon. Market research was done to find opportunity in the market and create a brand by defining its elements and branding it. Brand value was created which connects with target audience. After initial survey I realized that women aged 15- 55 go to salons, but only well earning women, especially aged 30 and above could avail good services. Most others would rather go to a local beauty parlour, however they aspired for better and trust worthy services. The brand is young adult in order attract customers of all ages. Ziur is a L’Oreal franchise salon, it uses L’Oreal products and has L’Oreal trained staff. For normal everyday services, served at lower budget and higher quality. Feminine, confident, everyday woman, budget salon. Research, branding, photography & copywriting was done for this project. Guide: Prof. Mahendra Patel Identity, Print & Prototype- Basic stationery, Membership folder, Promotional handouts, posters, facebook page, store branding, salon products branding.

Devanagari body text typeface for newspaper (Contd.) Class room project. SID. Pune Final Characters It is a modulated medium weight unnamed Devanagari newspaper typeface. As it is a modulated typeface, I studied calligraphy with the help of reed pen to get familiar with the devanagari characters. The design of each character has consistency in form and weight and at the same time distinguishable enough from each other so as to not get confused between characters when reduced to small font size.

Exploring Visual Language for Design Incubator Inhouse Project . Design Incubator . Pune

Concept 1 To represent UX processes using icons and Indian motifs

Design Incubator is a consulting, research and training company based in Pune, I was working as an apprentice there. They wanted to redefine their visual language. For that I had to understand the nature of work done by them and the services they provided. By understanding their brand values I had to come up with concepts which would reflect those. They work towards: - Spreading awareness on the need of UX and the problems created due to ignorance of user needs - To solve existing UX problems in products, services and processes in IT companies in India through research, training and consultation. - Design products for Indians and to be used in India

Website redesign IRCTC Self Initiated To learn and apply UX principles and software decided to redesign IRCTC website. Studied the existing IRCTC website and noted the tasks generally performed by the users and what problems the user might be facing with regards to its flow and functionality. - The page is very disorganised, no categorisation, many links leading to the same page. - Visual hierarchy needed to be reworked upon, important links like user guide, general information are not shown prominently. - Dialogue boxes are confusing - Placement of user login had to be worked upon as it was unnecessary to login to search and check availability of trains, it had to be placed when booking a ticket. The process of searching, scanning trains and class and checking its availability had to be made quicker.

Website redesign IRCTC Self Initiated

- Checking trains and availability of seats is most important and main reason for people come to website. This panel is kept on the home page and the person can do these activities without logging in. - Each train and class selected to check availability is displayed in different tabs so that it is easy to compare. - Menu options have been grouped and redesigned into 9 main tabs.

Website Design

- Upon login it gives users other lists to view (check availability, booked ticket history, cancelled tickets) and take action accordingly. - Cancelled ticket history will display all tickets cancelled and those filed for TDR, the users can also selectively check their status of refund.

Packaging for pearl necklaces Class room project. SID. Pune It was a classroom project. We were given an empty template, we had to cut and make the form and visualize any product which could be packed in it. We could make modifications in the given form to suit the need. I did packaging for pearl jewelry and created a hypothetical brand- Purple Lotus. The inspiration for the brand name and the product graphics came from the flower shape formed at the top of the form. Butter paper was the material used for the packaging as I felt it gave a delicate, pearly and feminine touch to it. Guide: Mr. Prashant Acharya
