OVERVIEW
2017 ANNUAL REPORT
KEVIN HYDES CEO AND FOUNDER OF INTEGRAL GROUP
Through conscious planning, Integral Group has been able to expand its reach into distinct markets by opening new locations and strategic acquisitions, in addition to organic growth. We are proud to celebrate 10 years of successful operations effectuating change in our industry. To commemorate a decade of green engineering, Integral Group published Impact, which tells the story of Integral Group through the projects, people, and endeavors that most encapsulate its ethos and influence. In just the past year alone, Integral Group has achieved many significant milestones – a new office in Sydney, strategic partnerships with sustainable associations, and consecutive years of technical awards from CIBSE and ASHRAE. As we continue to grow, we want to hold onto the clarity of purpose that has come from being a mission-driven company. We will continue to deliver great work and build a culture that embodies our values: trust, nurture and inspire. In order to cultivate communication and provoke thoughtful discussion, Integral Group organized a retreat for representatives from across the company to provide a diverse conversation both from local experience and global context. Dubbed “Fresh Voices,” the workshop focused around people and delivery, and the attendees produced a report shared firm-wide to maximize our collective impact. These ideas will be a critical influence on the future direction of our firm in the short, medium and long term. Across the globe, we have assembled a deep bench of incredible individuals - but to get where we want to go requires teamwork, strength in numbers - the power of many. This report tells some of this team’s stories and sheds light on the contributions they make and the parts they play in making Integral Group a great place to work.

CONRAD SCHARTAU CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF INTEGRAL GROUP
At Integral Group we’re focused on making a difference—making a better world for future generations. We’re all bound together by this feeling. We’re like minded; we’re more of a family than a team. As the world changes, we have to evolve. Our business processes have completely transformed. The expectations of employees have significantly shifted. We all need to continuously reinvent ourselves, as individuals and as organizations. I’ve learned over time, foremost to listen, to recognize when old values become outdated—you need to listen if you don’t want to be left behind. Communication, openness and inclusion have been areas of focus for us this past year. We are creating an environment where all voices can be heard, where no one is afraid to contribute an idea or share an opinion. Through this open culture, Integral Group has been able to achieve many successes—increased profits, new key clients, winning high-profile projects, and sustained growth. With a strong foundation in place, Integral Group is positioned to replicate these positive results in 2018 and beyond. The 2017 Annual Report highlights our achievements from the last year, and the successes we as a team have accomplished. Diverse voices fuel our creativity, and ultimately, our success.

Our Mission
Imagine At Integral Group, we are re-imagining engineering. We imagine a more sustainable world in which we can reinvent and redefine the ways our built environment can make a direct and indirect impact.
Perform Performance is about delivering deep green engineering solutions and viewing buildings not as static end-products of complex design processes, but as living organisms. Our focus on best practices and innovation makes us strive towards cost effective and pragmatic outcomes. We believe that whole system optimization is at the heart of every green or sustainable building.
Accelerate We are aligning and leveraging our business practices with industry and social initiatives aimed towards a greener and revitalized economy — acceleration is at hand.

2017 Integral Awards for Excellence
Since 2012, Integral Group has held an awards competition to recognize our innovation and achievements. Structured around our core values – Trust, Nurture, Inspire – and the four pillars of our business – Imagine, Perform, Accelerate & Sustain – the Awards celebrate technical excellence and innovation on project initiatives from the previous year. The winning submission in each category is determined by a panel of external jurors. Here is a cross-regional sample of the winning work.
Getting San Francisco Schools to ZERO Jurors’ Comment: “This is such a critical focus - from 3 perspectives, existing buildings, school environments and public facilities. Board covers both the vision and the quantifiable impact of interventions.”

To my knowledge, good specifications for environmental requirements are still wanting (25 years after I first proposed a systematic, high-leverage modification to Section Format to address them, as chair of the LA CSI Technical and Environmental committees. Also contributed to the first iteration of section 01351.) I still believe that a well written spec is high-leverage with great power to drive change, so I’m assuming that this one is well written and am giving it high marks.”

EPI Center: Carbon Emitter to Carbon Sequester Jurors’ Comment: “You could argue this is merely evolutionary but to have a net positive energy example is really important assuming the economics work. Interface global would come second in this category, but I do admire this building as it is a restoration and shows how much can be done.”
Why Solar + Storage Should Replace Dirty Fossil Fuel Generators Jurors’ Comment: “Why solar and storage should replace dirty fossil fuel generators. This is a conversation we have to have particularly around Peak shaving. This is scalable everywhere. Potentially transformational. Love to see the economics.”
SFO CAC: Net Zero Office Made Easy Jurors’ Comment: “Absolutely love it! “Everything Works Together” says it all – true integrative design, which is essential to make NZE business as usual. San Fran’s climate makes this much easier than other places, but it’s still an excellent example of the kind of thinking design teams must adopt to produce high performance results.”
London Energy Transformation Initiative Jurors’ Comment: “London energy transformation initiative. The whole idea of getting a major city to zero emissions is transformational and the fact that so many individuals are brought together to row in the same direction is fantastic and should be done in all cities. Again, potentially transformational.”
