I take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude and deep regards to Mr.Shailen Parker and Dr.Tridha Gajjar for helping me throughout the module . Photography module helped us to gain deeper understanding of all the essential elements of the photography. Communication graphics module has developed my design sensibility towards graphics and publication. I would also like to exted my gratitude to Mr.Aalok Joshi & Mani bhai for their help and support in various ways.

introduction

1 Introduction Photography is all about reading of light. The light is the most important essence in photography. Proper usage of the element helps in getting better results. An important activity which must be carried out regularly to improve the skills in photography is to read the photographs taken by each of us which leads to better understanding. This self analysis helps us to identify the mistakes and therefore helps us to avoid it in the future photographs.

Light is the essence of photography without it you have no photograph. The most constant source of light for the photographer is sun. However sunlight varies significantly depending on a number of factors either singularly or in combination. These factors has to be taken into account by the thoughtful photographer. When evaluting a scene that you propose to photograph you need to consider the position of the sun and how thelight, coming from the direction willaffect yourphotography.

The way in which light strikes the subject makes a huge difference to the quality of the resultant photography. The main three aspects of DSLR are shutter speed, aperature size and ISO. By controlling all these three a better quality image can be achieved.

Equipment DSLR The amin tool for photography - the camera has

undergone lots of development and the quality of the image is also improving day by day with advancement in science. One of the latest tool is digital single-lens reflex camera (also called a digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera combining the optics and the mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor, as opposed to photographic film. The reflex design scheme is the primary difference between a DSLR and other digital cameras. In the reflex design, light travels through the lens, then to a mirror that alternates to send the image to either the viewfinder or the image sensor. The alternative would be to have a viewfinder with its own lens, hence the term “single lens for this design. By using only one lens, the viewfinder presents an image that will not perceptibly differ from what is captured by the camera’s sensor. next exposure.

introduction

Like SLRs DSLRs typically use interchangeable lenses (1) with a

proprietary lens mount. A movable mechanical mirror system (2) is switched down (exact 45-degree angle) to direct light from the lens over a matte focusing screen (5) via a condenser lens (6) and a pentaprism/pentamirror (7) to an optical viewfinder eyepiece (8). Most of the entry level DSLRs use a pentamirror instead of the traditional pentaprism. Focusing can be manual or automatic, activated by pressing halfway on the shutter release or a dedicated AF button. To take an image, the mirror swings upwards in the direction of the arrow, the focal-plane shutter (3) opens, and the image is projected and captured on the image sensor (4), after which actions, the shutter Compared to the newer concept of mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras this mirror/prism system is the characteristic difference providing direct, accurate optical preview with separate autofocus and exposure metering sensors. Essential parts of all digital cameras are some electronics like amplifier, analog to digital converter, image processor and other (micro-)processors for processing the digital closes, the mirror returns to the 45-degree angle, and the built in drive mechanism re-tensions the shutter for the image, performing data storage and/or driving an electronic display.

2 Shutter speed Shutter speed is measured in seconds, or fraction of seconds. The amount of light let in through the shutter is directly proportionate to the amount pf time the shutter is opened.

3 Aperture Aperture controls the amount of light that, once reflected from your subject, is allowed to pass through the lens, and be recorded on the imaging sensor. The size of opening in the aperture is called as f-stops. High f-stops less amount oflight is allowed to pass through and viseversa.

4 Depth of field Depth of field is a photographic term which defines what is in focus within your shot both in front of and behind, your point of focus. Point of focus is simply the area of the subject that you use to focus the lens.

As a part of the photography module we went for a photography trip to a place called Champaner which took about 3 hours to reach. is a historical city in the state of Gujarat, in western India. It is located in Panchmahal district, 47 kilometres from the city of Vadodara. In Chapaner we visited places like jama masjid, kabutarkhana, a falls, etc. By playing with the diferent elements of photography we explored it.
