I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which includes the city of Arlington. Many more people around the world have now heard of Arlington, because it is the location of AT&T Stadium, which is the home of the Dallas Cowboys. Arlington has also been the home of a General Motors assembly plant since the 1950's.

GM Increasing The Production of SUV's By Investing In Arlington Plant In July of this year, General Motors announced that it is going to invest $1.4 billion dollars into its Arlington Assembly Plant so that it will be able to produce more of its flagship SUV models.

The Arlington plant makes SUVs such as the Chevrolet Suburban and the Cadillac Escalade. The Cadillac Escalade is in fact the number one seller among large SUVs, with it having 3% of that total market in the U.S.

General Motors said it is planning on making over the next three years in several of its plants across the U.S.

The existing Arlington plant consists of more than 4.4 million square feet and employs approximately 4,100 workers who work three different shifts. As recently as 2011, General Motors invested over 300 million dollars into

the plant to upgrade its equipment and tooling capabilities. In 2014 the Arlington plant produced 281,439 SUVs according to data compiled by Automotive News. Production for the first half of 2015 has increased by 32 percent with the plant already having produced 162.431 vehicles by June. The General Motors Assembly Plant has been a big part of the economy of the City of Arlington for the past 60 years. The plant recently produced its 10-millionth vehicle and the Arlington City Council voted to approve a 10year tax break worth approximately $30 million dollars to show its appreciation for General Motors plans to move forward with its 1.2 million square-foot expansion plan for the plant. This investment includes plans for a new paint and body shop and an upgrade to the general assembly area and its functions. General Motors has said that the expansion plan does not call for the addition of new jobs, but will help to secure the future of existing jobs for decades to come. After the expansion, General Motors is considering adding one more full day of production per week, which would result in an additional 60,000 vehicles coming off of the assembly line each year. This investment will result in increasing the production of SUVs which will be good for General Motors, employees of the plant and the City of Arlington as well..
