Ink Block - Siena Two Bedroom Condo - Art Nouveau Style To design a pre-construction 7th floor condominium in the Ink Block - Siena Residences in South Boston. Incorporate Art Nouveau style, Universal Design and utilize ADA guidelines (Americans with Disabilities Act) into the existing 1575 square foot unit including two balconies.

HISTORICAL CONTEXT The Art Nouveau Period is formal and modern. It is sensuous and flowing with organic forms used in metals such as wrought iron. The use or organic forms will be incorporated into hand rails, balconies, entrance way, mirrors and stained glass.

DESIGNING FOR AGING IN PLACE is to support a persons needs as they age. It is an important to take their needs into consideration .

The space to takes on the organic feel of Art Nouveau with a modern twist in the use of materials available today. All the design features are used subtly through out the space while keeping the aging in place concepts throughout the design. The combination of new materials with flowing organic curvilinear forms will achieve visual balance in the room.

PROBLEM STATEMENT: To design a residential space for an autistic boy to embrace his autism disorder and learn with as many tools possible to best communicate so he can survive in the world on his own someday. Every game and toy is a learning experience and is used with the aid of a therapist and or the parents. Medical documents accumulate on a weekly basis. The child has a need to jump, bounce, climb and swing and thrives with visual electronic stimulation. Water has a calming effect. He is negatively affected by bright colors and child presents with repetitive behaviors.

Concept Statement: To design a community workplace which enhances todays diverse working demographic by providing spaces for continuous mind clarity. The space will enable the feeling of oneself immersed in nature while utilizing todays technology. It will encourage knowledge sharing and resources all while minimizing costs. Renters of oďŹƒce spaces from a wide range of business backgrounds will come together to work and play in harmony. The design will promote a sense of place and community by providing many opportunities to interact with other business people in this work place community. An umbrella include a mechanism of interlocking curved lines representing people. When engaged in projective manner the umbrella repels rain and snow representing the workplace.

The handmade concept inspired me to design a youth hostel symbolized by a simple stitch. A youth hostel provides short term affordable overnight lodging with shared spaces for people to socialize and meet one another. A stitch is a loop of thread or yarn that passes through its material. Just as a stitch flows in and out of its material, people flow in and out of a youth hostel.
